Blackwall Tunnel is fantastic for listening to melodious exhausts in. If I am going to be in a TVR, I plan my trips to include going through here, if there isn't too much traffic. Too bad the Astons were stolen. Four of them at full song down the tunnel, and blipping the throttle for the kink at the end, would have made my morning. Is it true that the bends were put in at the end so that the light at the end of the tunnel wouldn't startle horses? I don't know where I heard it, but I think it was in reference to these old tunnels. Good thinking on your friend's part. |

Good job, but the knock on result of the police rounding up the stolen cars was at least a 12 mile tail back and thousands of people late for work/appointments in london. For those of you that don't know this is possibly one of the most congested routes into london on a normal day. At least these idiots won't (hopefully) be in a position to steal cars for a long time. Not many people would have been so observant. |

Buddy of mine worked Autotheft in Toronto for years. Someone broke into (employee) a Jag dealership and made off with 6 keys and 6 jags. Montreal police found one sitting on the side of the road in downtown montreal 5 hours later. Put a GPS tracker in it and it sat for two days. then picked up and taken to be loaded into container destined for Kenya found all 6 plus 4 land Rovers 3 porsches 2 MB a dozen BMW's and a couple of Toyota 4 runners all ready to go. The guys behind it got 2 years and are already back out doing it again. Gotta love that Auto Theft is such a high priority crime these days. With over a million dollars worth of cars ready to leave the country they still only got 2 years for posession of stolen property not the Organized crime that they should have been charged under. |

A collegue was driving into work today in London. On the approach to the Blackwall Tunnel he pulled up behind 4 brand new Aston Martins, one without a number plate. He got suspicious thinking what the hell are 4 new astons doing at 6am in the morning?? Anyway saw the drivers were fairly young guys, put 2+2 together and figured they were probably stolen. Anyway he called the police from his mobile to report the cars stolen. 1 minute later got a call back from the security in Blackwall Tunnel asking where the cars were. He replied just going into the tunnel. Within no time they closed the tunnel, claiming a truck was stuck. Few minutes later the police arrived, and sure enough they were stolen! One car was damaged badly, but the other 3 were apparently fine. |
