Uhh. We did the RIDE! Thought I would clarify before DES got after my post. If you ride there (or anywhere on the island on a bike), rent or bring a full helmet. The bugs are the size of taco's! |

Just did that drive last Tuesday. Rented an open Mustang and had a great lunch at the hotel in Hana. Loved the black sand beach just before getting to Hana. Most crazy people I saw were the locals trying to get home and passing in the most dangerous places. Other than that, the drive was the highlight of the island. The aquarium wasn't too bad either. Next time I think a Harley would be fun. My wife probably wouldn't ride with me though, she doesn't ride much here. At least she enjoys the F-car! Glad you had a good time. |

Allan, go up to Kehei and there is a snowcone shack BRIGHT RED and YELLOW opposite side of road from ocean. Anyway they do snorkeling tours and they paddle out to areas that power boats are not allowed. He claims it is much better than any of the Molokini type crap that tourists fall for with no fish. Looked pretty cool and is run by the guy who owns the snowcone shop. Kind of a blonde hair hippie guy from Missouri. |

Davey, the road was great. But i had more fun today. We went out on a catamaran snorkling excursion. On our way out we ran into a pack of dolphins that would do flips right next to our boat, then went snorkling and came upon a pack of sea turtles. Soo much fun. What Maui is all about. |

Ellen, that road sure is the business, isn't it? I wish you had posted that you were going on it--I would have told you that much of it is, um, "unimproved", and not suitable for a nice car. Plus, as you discovered, most tourists can't drive! But it sure is worth the drive, eh?

Some of you have commented on what an incredible drive this is, so we decided to take it yesterday. At first we were going to drive both the Lambo and Ferrari, but in the end decided to take the Cadillac. THANK GOD. It becomes such a narrow road that in most places only one car can fit, and we almost got hit 3 times by idiot tourists. We went all the way around, and it turns into a very bumpy unpaved road, for about 8 miles. Not suitable for cars like ours. Anyway, it is incredible, the views amazing and we went swimming in the seven sacred pools. I recommend the drive to anyone comng here for vacation. |
