had one of these for review. Very good choice but small children of amputees are only ones going to fit in the back seats. The car is tight no wind noise to speak of better than many others as far as get up and go but the triptronic constant varriable auto box will take a bit of getting use to, it is a good driver.

Thanks for everyone's input. Tyler, like you I love the design of the e320 cab...but i wonder if it is underpowered. Next year the audi s4 cab will be out with all-wheel drive and 344 hp! But i think the benz, old bentley's and corniche's are more unique/special. We just got our first snow out here in Utah...so i'll probably take my time and look for an opportunity to drive all the suggestions before buying. thanks ccr

Volvo C70 convertible! I'm a convertible fan and I've been in a lot of droptops. The C70 has a ~huge~ backseat. A Volvo saleman was 6 feet and a few inches and had tons of room in the back. Nice trunk too. Sporty to drive. The 5 speed is a blast. Very smooth shifter. Quick acceleration. I was driving along in a 45 when Mr. Salesman said, "Uh, Mike... do you know you're almost doing 70?" Like I said... smooth and quick. My $.02. |

Audi A4 3.0 Quattro Cabriolet. Real four passenger room. 220 hp V6 engine, all-wheel drive, glass rear window, usable trunk space and free maintenance for the first 4 years or 50k miles. Lexus has no real back seat. Beautiful 2 passenger car. Just my opinion. |

Charles, the 94-95 E320 cabriolets are IMO one of the prettiest Benz cars ever. Very well built and a MUCH classier car than the newer CLK convertibles. |

How tall are you? Your height will have a lot to do with the space you will have in the back. In terms of modern cars, the ones with the most space in the back are the Volvo, Saab and Chrysler. They all had real space in the back when I had the seat back...I usually have it at the rearmost setting in most cars. Rolls/Bentleys can be as expensive to maintain as a Ferrari. The Lexus, Jag, Porsche, Mitsubishi, Ford, BMW and Mercedes tend to have little usable space if you are close to 6 foot. (I suspect Jag and Lexus added seats just to lower insurance...) - JMG |

I LOVE the looks and styling of the older corniche's. Very classy car. Of course my favorite is still the mondial cabriolet. It dosent have much back seat room but its purfect for small kids or short trips. Its also very dependable as far as exotic cars go. Another possibility is the chop top 400i. Hard to come by but worth the wait. |

sounds like you want "real" back seats? a 911 cabriolet has back seats, but mostly for kids. used ones are very affordable. the current M3 convertible is very nice with back seats, albeit tight. my sis in OBX has a sebring and LOVES it. she shoehorns her friends into the back now and then and they don't whine too much (top down, glorious weather - what's there to complain about!?!?!?). the older bentley drop tops are great solutions to this problem, but i'm told they are quite expensive to maintain. doody. |

Chrysler Sebring has seats in the back; not really adequate for adults, but it's a really nice car, nonetheless... |

I wonder if anyone can give me their opinions on the best 4 seat convertible new or used. It would be used regularly but not necessarily in bad weather. A few that I am interested in are the old rolls/bentleys corniche/continentals and even the 80s and 90s aren't bad. I also like the '95 MBZ E320 cabriolet...one of the last handbuilt mercedes. These are relatively cheap and would go forever i imagine. The older 280sel and 300se cabriolets are nice also. I'd really like a larger auto...not like the small jump seats in porsche or even bmw/audi cars today. What other cars do any of you have? What about the ones i mentioned. thanks. |
