Oh, it takes more balls to race ovals like Indy. I think it takes more skill though to pull a good F1 lap than it takes to run a good Indy lap. A good crew and car determines more of your result at Indy. |

I would have to disagree with the consenses that it doesn't take talent to drive an oval. It takes a lot of skill and strategy to win a 500 mile race. As far as Michael Andretti I don't think it was so easy to be the second driver behind Senna also he had a lot of distractions at the time. I think if he had fully commited to it he would have done well. |

Bottom line is: No American born champion since the one and only Phil Hill. Pretty sad. Now if F1 only drove around in circles, we would have generations of talentless yeehahs to contend. I guess after the fiasco with Sullivan,Cheever, and Andretti, they are all scared to be under the world's eye. Somebody step up to the plate, please. |

As I said, American born Formula One Grand Prix, most of your list never saw a Formula One car, they just drove in circles. |

Warren, thanks for pointing that out. The list I posted was actually "American Formula 1 Drivers." I didn't pay attention to the wording in Brian's heading. Mario Andretti was, of course, born in Montona, Italy and came to the States when he was 15 years old. |

Lombardi, galicia,de Filippis, Amati and Wilson. I don't count the Indycar races as Formula One GPs although they counted for the Drivers Championship. |
