How lucky you are to have witnessed the race from that appartment...wow!

This makes me want to take a trip there even sooner.

THANKs for sharing those with us.

I can't believe you were that close to Gerhard also.

From the 1994 GP that I watched from a friends apartment. Direct on the start finish line.
We were there also on the 1993 GP but I have no good pictures. Not even these are great.

Okay lets go.

1992 GP Berger checking out the competition. He was then driving #2 next to Senna in the McLaren Honda.

The first set is from the 92 GP. I have most of them from back then.
Berger was with Mc Laren at that point. Co for Senna.

Awesome! Thanks Bob and Martin.

Martin please...more pics.

Did you actually get to see Alesi climb out?

Meet any drivers or have any driver stories?

Thanks,
Joe T.

What was very interesting then was the speed in which the town converts from and to the GP.
The first signs are about one month before the event. The first barriers are erected where they do not hinder traffic, them more and more are added, the first TV towers go up and the grand stands follow. Then...all hell breaks loose. You have no idea how quiet this principality is when there is no F1 racing in town. Another major event is Forth of July. They always have a party and fireworks in the harbor.

Unfortunately this was also a time when business was not that great and my wife and I could not afford to live there anymore. In retrospect it was the right move. Although from time to time Marion and I sit and we think about the time we had. Great views from the terrace. Our building was on the hill. As high up as possible, the back was on the border to France. Overlooking the two harbors, the Palace and the Ocean.

I will get some more pictures from home tomorrow and post them for you. Some from 1993 and 1994 GP's.

I just scanned two I have in my office.
They are one picture. My scanner is not the greatest. Sorry.

I will try to post them now.

Joe, no question this was another great weekend for Ferrari at Nurburgring! I agree, check your tour company's track record closely before you book anything (especially the one we attempted to use listed below). I'm actually glad they cancelled our reservations. We had more fun without them... a lot more fun! Besides, I'd much rather be down by the track where the action is rather than watching from a remote hotel balcony. What the heck... we live and we learn, right?

Martin, I can only imagine what it was like to live in Monaco for 2 years... what a place! You can see from one of the pics posted below, we were sitting right before the tunnel at the Monte Carlo Grand Hotel... also check all the people watching from the roof. I'm sure you recall the roofs of all the buildings and hotels were loaded with people. What a hit.

If you can figure it out, try to load your pics. I'd like to see them!

Great Pix.
I was lucky to be living in Monaco for 2 years, from 1992 to 1994. Great place during the GP of Monaco.
During this years GP the former "Loeve's Hotel" was called the Grand Hotel. Very strange. I had to drive through there every morning to go to the gym....so many memories.

I saw my first GP in 1992 right after the tunnel, where you turn into the chicane . If you go straight you end up at a fence. There was a small little restaurant. They had a GP Special. Fully catered and direct on the fence where all the cars came through.

I could scan some pix and send them to Rob. I am not capable of posting pictures on the site....

I have a picture of Alesis #27 (that car was bought by a Ferrari collector in Orlando by the way. I saw that car again at the Sebring Ferrari event this spring.) and off hand I have a picture of the Bugatti EB 110 passing by with the boats in the harbor. I have more pix home.

Let me know if anybody is interested.

Great story, Bob! Thanks for sharing it with us.

I'm afraid that I wouldn't have the same luck, so when the time comes I'll try a different tour company.

How about the race over the weekend?

-Schumi legally blocks at the beginning.

-Ralf gets screwed on the white line that older bro. seemed to touch also.

-Barichello seems to be off the pace slightly.

-A beautiful qualifying lap reminiscent of a true ace like Mansell, Prost or Senna. (I don't remember seeing a qualifying lap like that since I first became interested in F1 back in 87)

Bob,

I guess your lucky as the British haven't learned the American art of "scalping" tickets yet.&#:);

Glad it worked out for you.

Joe, my wife and I had been planning this trip for a year.... our 10th anniversary. She booked the Monaco Grand Prix through a tour company (www.f1-monaco.com). Monaco was the first portion of our trip... we had already planned to spend another week in France following the race.

Now the ugly part... the DAY BEFORE we were to depart for Monaco, we received an email from the tour operator stating they had CANCELLED our reservation.... they "overbooked" the tour and said we should not travel to Monaco. So we scrambled to get hotel reservations in Nice, about 15 miles away.... we got lucky and found decent place to stay. Our airline reservations were already booked and I was determined to see this race!!!

Now the good news... we got to Monaco and ran into a British guy who heard us asking somebody (in poor French!) about tickets. It turned out he had two extra tickets from a friend who had to back out at the last minute. He sold us the tickets below face value... and they were great!

Not only did we have better seats but we ended up saving a bunch of $$$ too. Sometimes things work out for the best... I guess this was a combination of luck and right place, right time! We ended up having a blast!

BobD has a great story about how he got the tickets, if he doesn't reply, remind me and I'll tell.

How far in advance did you buy your tickets to get that close?

Thanks for posting them!

Monaco is definately a dream vacation for me.

Rob, thx for posting the Monaco Grand Prix pics. What an experience! If any of you ever get the opportunity, GO!!! Our seats were at the du Portier turn just before the tunnel. I also have a short MPG film (small file, only 122K) which has Schumacher in action... great sound! If you're interested, email me and I'll send you the file. While in Monaco for only two days, we saw no less than 40 Ferraris driving around... the oldest was a 355. Nope, no 308's, 328's or 348's cruising the streets of Monaco! Monaco Grand Prix results: Ferrari (Schumacher) First, Ferrari (Barrichello) Second! Too much fun!
