I think Gomer is referring to the David Coulthard plane crash from a couple of years ago. The pilots did not survive. David broke a few ribs but was well enough to race (and Win!) a week later. I remember him on the podium, he couldn't even lift his arms above his head.

This sounds eerily similar to Coulthards accident, except the pilots did not survive and the plane CRASH landed, and Coulthard, girlfriend and training had to jump out of burning plane.

How come the news media never got hold of the MS version?

I'd like to meet the man evetually. I will hopefully be able to attend a few races next year in Europe or USA.

Someone should invite him into the Gumball or Player's Run!

Hi Bart, here are a few more. You're right that they are pretty exclusive. I've certainly never seen these pictures anywhere before!
The first one is Michael attacking Ross with Champagne!

He must be on his second 456 because I've seen a 456 previously owned by Michael for sale. I think it was 90K.
As for the singing, I knew he enjoyed his end of term Karaoke sessions after the Japanese GP. A Ferrari mechanic gave me a CD with thousands of photos he had taken during the 2000 season.
Here are a couple from the 2000 Japanese GP post race celebrations. The first one shows Michael and Rubens singing 'We Are The Champions' on karoake. The second shows Jean Todt carrying Corinna Schumacher. I love the look on Jean's face!

Matt, I don't know about the ammount of the cars he's having but I'm sure it would be a lot :-)
And yes, He's also getting the special red inked Enzo.

When I went to Kerpen sunday, a photographer was driving along with us. He's a friend of Jos Verstappen, and the mechanic of Jos, for this race it was Giedo van der Garde (Worldchampion FSA), told the photographer that they made it a great weekend. With MS and Ralf and Jos they went paintballing and having diner etc. It was a real fun weekend, so MS does get the time to relax between seasons :-).

Bart,
Great pictures! Does anyone know how many cars he owns. I heard he was getting an Enzo soon if not already. It sure would have been funny to see him and his brother trying to drive in the dark after a few drinks. From what I hear they have no problem partying when the time is right.

Jack, I guess that would be one way, sell your soul to the devil and prepare to work long days and fly around the globe, but I don't think I'll get that offer :-), and I don't think I would do it anyway :-)
Well if you get to know how he did it, please let us know.

Mike, thanks for the invite to send an email, I already compiled the email in Word, but I can't find your emailadress :-( would you please post it here, or you can send it to my own email : [email protected].

Matt, Sorry that your tread was highjacked, so to keep it on topic:
Yesterday I went to Kerpen and I saw MS drive the Formula A class. He finished 5th, but I guess the main reason was that the guys he was competing with are training day after day. But it was great to see him, although he had 2 bodyguards with him to keep the crowd on a safe distance.
Here are some pictures of this event: http://www.kart-club-kerpen.de/rennen/winter/20021201_imp.html
The son of my boss was riding aswell, hes on this picture (#18) :
http://www.kart-club-kerpen.de/rennen/winter/bilder/021201/02_12_01_45.jpg
Just had to metion it :-)

I've also seen MS his 456GT, the car was really dirty, he probably didn't want it to attract attention. It had a Swiss plate on it. I couldn't get any pictures of it, because the battery was empty :-( stupid me.

I also heard a great story, about MS and Ralf.
One day, can't remember if it was this weekend or some weekends ago, Michael and Ralf were having a party or so, and they both got a bit winged. Then they decide to go to the track at Kerpen and start racing, at 4 in the morning! :-) The only light they had, was the light at the paddock and the rest of the track was completely dark (or maybe a bit lightened by the moon). They went on driving and they both crashed, going straight of the track in a corner. No injuries but I don't think the karts were in one piece

Bart,

I'm in the motorsports industry. I used to work as an engineer for various professional race teams. I'm now involved in a business in which the Ferrari F1 team is one of our customers. Feel free to email me privately and I can tell you my background and take on how to get into the industry.

Bart, I'm curious about that myself. I know he followed the requisite fluid dynamics route, but with the number of engineers out there, and the vast desire to work in F1, it seems like you'd have to make a deal with the devil, doesn't it? I'm a little hesitant to send him here--too many tracks for me to cover up ;)

Jack, If the aero-engineer is coming over, would you mind asking him, in between some conversations if you got the change to speak him offcourse, how he became and aero-engineer for an F1-team ??

Currently I'm studying to become and mechanical engineer and I would like to know how someone gets to work in an F1-team.
It would be a dream come true to work for an F1-team, so maybe he knows some tips :-)

Well, probably it's just a stupid question, but if you could mingle it into the conversation ;)
I would be very glad to know what he's got to tell.

Or maybe give him the site and let him sign up :-)

Already lots of thanks from my side of the screen

I actually thought about that. Might be hard to claim it's just coincidence, especially since my dog is in my bio picture! I was talking with his wife today, and she said that his whole family is coming to stay for a couple weeks over Christmas, so I'll get to meet him. Should be cool, I guess they're a lot of fun.

Well, you guys will still see your share of spats here, but it's a pretty good site otherwise.

I've already got my "in" with them. The neighbors don't have cable, and don't seem to plan on getting it, so I already invited them over when racing season starts. I'll just tell them I need some nice gear to wear while watching the races! Plus, we're dog-sitting for them next month for a week. Wheels are in motion, my friends...

Thanks for your welcome Jack!! I can tell you since now that the racing forum will be my 1st home here! ;)

Anthony, I was searching for information about the 348(Ferrari that I pretend buy in the future) and find this forum. About the people here, I have to tell you that I'm pretty impressed with this forum. Sure that's only a first impression, but I hope this impression is the right one!

I'm a little bit tired of abusive language and fights...

Ciao a tutti!!!

Since he aint the F1 fan you obviously are, he could provided you with some nice stuff :-)
Looks like you need to get over for some sugar etc. ;)

Well I hope that the racing forum gets a bit more crowded, since it's the best way to spend your free time.
I just can't wait until the first F1 race and the EC karting.

btw. You let your dog sitting in the car ? :-)

Nice to see a little more interest in the racing forum. Welcome, Anthony and Ickx. I actually prefer talking racing. That is, until my car needs work! Here's a good one--we have a new couple who moved in across the street. We finally met after a couple months, and it turns out the husbands brother is an aero-engineer for BAR. He was working for Jenson Button/Renault, but changed teams. He claims to not be a huge F1 fan (from Scotland, if you can believe that!), but keeps getting all this team gear sent to him from his brother. Time to saddle this guy up and get some goods!

Well I haven't met him, but upcoming sunday Micheal S and Jos Verstappen are having a kart race on the karting track in Kerpen.

I'm planning a visit over there and I hope can get some nice pictures.
I'll post them over here if they're developed ok.
Hope to get on the picture with him, but he'll probably be to be to busy with the karting I guess.

I have yet to meet him. My wife met him at a Ferrari party in Hungary this year. They'd just wrapped up the constructors title so everyone was quite drunk. She was talking to Nigel Stepney when Michael came staggering over with a cigar in his mouth and told her that she should be careful because Nigel was a bad man!

I met Michael and his wife in Montreal in 2001 at the Intercontinental Hotel. Along with our wives we rode down in the elevator and went to our respective cars that the valet had brought out. Both Michael and his wife were very pleasant and engaging (I did not ask for an autograph) and Michael seemed very interested in my 84 308GTSI. We wished him luck in the race and went our seperate ways.

I met him on 5 or 6 occasions during various events around the world. If you click on my name on the left, you can see a picture we took together. I must say that he is truly a charming man and his wife is exceptionally pleasent too. I was always a huge Senna fan and Schumacher very much had to earn my respect. I must say that I have never seen a hint of the 'arrogance' he is accused of. If you have ever been to private testing in Fiorano, Mugello or Monza as I have you will see that Schumacher is mobbed and pulled in many directions constantly. People loose sight of that as their exposure to the man is normally very short. I cannot believe that he balances things as well as he does. If I were in his shoes I do not think I could be half as patient or as accomidating as him.

I met him this year on april 22nd at the introduction of the new Fiat Palio Sporting.
He arrived with a helicopter and walked through the stage where he made his speech. There i yelled him and he waved at me. An amazing moment! :-)
I couldn't get his authograph but it was something as valuable as an autograph.

I 'met' him last year in the Paddock area: I was one story up on a 'balcony' and he came just out of the Ferrari office (which is different fromt he pit). He hopped onto his Vespa to drive the 10m to the pit (I suppose he has to do this to keep Vespa happy?). My friend yelled his name and Michael turned towards us, realized, that I was about to shoot pictures. He posed for a moment waved at us. Not at all the allegedly arrogant behaviour we so often read about in the newspapers.

I did meet his brother as well. Got his autograph and listened to his speech in the Williams VIP tent. He was a rather stressed individual.

Just curious. I am sure he's a great guy. How can you not be with a job like the one he has. I didn't get to go to Indy to see him and Rubens this year. Just curious.
