About the "make radio comm public", over here (Netherlands) we already hear what the team say to there drivers and vice versa. To explain why that's possible: The commentator over here, Olav Mol, was a bit fooling around with the scanner he brought to the GP and accidentally he found the frequency of an F1 team. He noticed that it wasn't scrambled at all, so he used it during the live comment. The teams weren't that pleased but because they couldn't do anything about it, they decided to tolerate it and they started to use codes for changing set-ups etc. For instance they now only say "pressure 4" when they change the tire pressure. When they decide to make it "public" the teams really need to watch what they're saying because now also the sponsors are listening, so no more swearing etc. This isn't that good for us dutch, since it was always fun to hear the "perfect" drivers make mistakes just like every single one of us. It made the F1 less static for us dutch, and that would be lost if it were to be completly "public". (Auch, that was a real selfish comment, sorry for that) The things we now hear during the comments are thing like : - some heavy swearing when it goes real bad (for instance Coulthard in the Great Britain GP when he had to change his tires twice in 3 rounds) - when a driver needs to come to the pits - when a slower driver needs to let MS (or others but that's just minimal ) pass - the incredible cheering of a team like minardi when they get points (in the australian GP) - And a lot of other emotions and tactics Over here you can download the list of frequencies used during the 2002 GP's: http://www.bommeltje.nl/scanners/software/f1-frequentiedatabase.xls It is said that Ferrari uses such high frequencies that it's almost impossible to overhear there conversations. The Ferrari conversations are also the onces we never hear. On the part of the reversed grid, I don't think that's such an good idea, just like TomD said, the fight for place 10 orso wouldn't be so big since everyone wants to start infront the next race. It would only make the first 6 spots interesting to fight for. About the fuel speed, I don't think that would matter much, everybody needs to refuel and only the teams with the economical cars (the top-teams) have the benefit of this (less time in the pits due to refueling then nowadays) The slicks would be great to see back, just for the sake of history The thing I would like to see is a better point system, for the best 10, so that even the smaller teams get to earn points (and so get there travel money). And the gap between the first 2 shouldn't be so big. It should be more like 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. This way you'd get fights for more places, not only the first 6, but for 10 places. The text is huge I now see, sorry for that. |

I always liked the idea of reverse grid, it would really make the races interesting. Remember Lauda and Watson in their Mc Laren's starting from the end of the field in Monaco (!) of all places to make their way to the front (they butched up qualifying, but had the fastest car nonetheless)? That was phantastic to see, but having an entire grid reversed would probably cause havoc. Just flip a year back to Hockenheim and Zeltweg where (Schumi crashed out in both of those at the start) we had less experienced drivers at the front and you see what can go wrong.

won't happen, too dangerous and you would have people in the middle of the pack fighting to be last so they could be first in the next race. interesting thought nonetheless |

How about you just have qualifying be a point earngings thing. Then for the grid you could have them line up in reverse order, meaning that the winner from the last race starts dead last, and that the pole is given to whoever placed last in the previous race(so if you blew an engine on the 1st lap of the previous race you would have pole at the next race). That way we would see the best drivers having to fight their way to the lead of the pack. Thoughts??? |

They didn't specify, but it sounds as if it would be avail on regular TV (read Speedvision in the US). On a sidenote: I heard somewhere else, that Bernie also agreed to give more of his TV feed to regular broadcast. All in the name of bringing back some of the viewers. Now add Bahrain and potentially Shanghai to the mix and that other idea of using only one engine per race or you'll loose 10 positions on the grid and we could be in for a really awesome season. But first we have to get through 2003...(don't get me wrong, I love to see the red cars win, but some racing before the finish line wouldn't hurt). |

I think slicks is a great idea. Without slicks passing is tough because of some much emphasis on aero to get grip. once you get close to someone the aero is impaired. I thought radio was public on Bernie vision - or do you mean all teams hear your radio discussions? |

According to German newspapers the teams, Ecclestone, the FIA and Mosley are going to debate on 12/4 about some drastic changes in F1 racing for the 2004 season: - slicks allowed again - increase width of car - make radio comm public - increase fuel flow speed at pit stops by 1/3 Sounds a lot like bringing back some of the old times. Fine with me :-)
