I did the rental car through Eau Rouge a couple of years ago. It is terribly impressive. Not speedwise as they really restrict you with pylons and all (they know, that people go there for that reason I think), but just feeling the diving down sensation and then the zig zag and thereafter the endless climb up the straight, at least in a rental it seems endless. It is a blast. Was also fun to drive through the bus stop chicane and the pit area. Anybody traveling by should give it a shot. My biggest surprise was btw coming through the dinky town of Spa looking for the track, driving down hill past the gas station and all of a sudden you have the whole track laid out in front of you as you pass the gates to the first turn (hairpin). Unfreaking believably cool sight! |

Tom, Would love to run there sometime. I grew up in Germany less than an hour from the famous Ring and Spa is the other track that I want to run sometime. Eau Rouge is one of the last classic corners left in F1 or any racing for that matter. After they modify 130R at Suzuka there will only be the kink at Road America, the Corkscrew at Laguna, and Eau Rouge. I might have missed some other notable coners but these are the big ones to me. Heck, even in a rental car Eau Rouge would be fun. Maybe a BMW 5 series or even a 3 series. In a Ferrari it would be heaven. Regards, Jon

Read below: Belgium Senators Bid to Save Spa from F1 Axe Thursday November 14th, 2002 Belgian senators made a bid today to save the country's Grand Prix at Spa, which race officials axed last month because of a government ban on tobacco advertising. The Senate's Social Affairs Commission voted 8-7 in favour of postponing until 2006 the date when legislation against cigarette advertising comes into effect. The bill has to be passed by the upper and lower houses of parliament before it becomes law. Formula One's governing body removed Spa-Francorchamps from the 2003 calendar last month, trimming the Championship to 16 races instead of 17. "We're lucky in that our Grand Prix has not been given to someone else," said Senator Jean-Marie Happart. Although Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has not completely shut the door on Spa, some Formula One sources have dismissed the idea of the race being reinstated. FIA president Max Mosley this month said there was no way back for the race next year. They outlined that Belgium was not a major market for the carmakers who now dominate the sport and suggested that Spa had not done enough to move with the sport's technological advances. Belgian politicians in the southern Wallonia region, where the Grand Prix is held, are especially loath to let the race go. According to some estimates, the four-day event reaps about 25 million euros ($25.18 million) a year for the local economy.
