Ok, so Watson, should my excessive speed offenses be ignored because i'm an F1 fan...? Everyone that knows me, knows i like to drive fast and if i've caused no accidents, can't we just sweep my speeding offenses under the rug...?
In fact, can i call the DMV and get my money back for past offenses...?
91 in a 65: $370.00
87 in a 55: $230.00
62 in a 30: $(i don't remember)
+ a whole lot more
...and since we're lightening up about this whole thing, i'll go back to where i was last week and do 80 in a 30, again... if i don't completely obliterate a small child or cause any other accidents, i should say i'll have some nasty attitude if i get pulled over.

Um... just food for thought...
:-)

"just because he's an F1 champion, doesn't give him the right to speed on public roads"

DES, it was Ralf who was caught. He never has been and never will be an F1 champion.

I think you also mis-read the point about the cop not believing who he was. The cop knew who Ralf Schumacher was he just didn't believe that it was Ralf Schumacher that he was talking to. Quite how speaking to Ralf's wife proved it I don't know!:-)

I have also never heard of an F1 driver trying to get out of owning up to their wrong-doing just because they are a celebrity. Jenson Button, Damon Hill, and Michael Schumacher have all been booked for speeding in the last few years.

Surely this is nothing new for the F1 guys to race everywhere. As long as there are no accidents it truly should be ignored.

i'll be the first person to okay exceeding the speed limit- whenever, wherever, however, with whoever, it doesn't matter... i've gotten more speeding tickets in the last 2 years than i care to share...

...HOWEVER... this b.s. about "the cop didn't recognize him" or "he had to call his wife to prove his identity" is absurd... i think it's disgusting and ridiculous when people get out of owning up to their wrong-doing just because they are a celebrity... just because he's an F1 champion, doesn't give him the right to speed on public roads- the law is the law (as stupid as it is), but if one has to obey it, all have to...

i, myself, am a Formula 1 racing fan but f*ck them if they cop a "woe is me" attitude for speeding and "not being recognized"... what kind of egotistical bullsh!t is that...? The last speeding ticket i got was $370 and i paid it with a smile on my face ('cause i was so happy they didn't suspend my license)...

No one understands more clearly, the passion, the excitement, the pure, unadulterated exhileration of speed, than me... but you gotta own up to the punishment when you get caught...

Actually it used to be that way, but the FIA finally gave up on it. Part has also to do with the arrival of younger drivers who don't even have a license (e.g. recent Williams test with Rosberg's son who is 17 years of age).

When Kimi Raikkoenen joined F1, he drove in some countries, where they wouldn't give him a rental car to get to the track.

You know, here's a thought:

If F1 drivers were only allowed to drive in F1 while they held a valid and not banned road license; maybe they would act more responsibly on the road!?!

Yeh I read about it. I think it's real stupid. F1 drivers are like some sort of role model. They shouldn't be caught doing real stupid things like this. There was a tread about it in general aswell : http://server.ferrarichat.com/~ferrari/ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/180770.html?1039429963
But this would be the best place to put it though :-)
We need more race fans !!!

Just in case you haven't read about it, he was pulled over in Austria for doing 130Kph on 80Kph ... got to be careful there I myself got busted twice already while driving thru Austria, it's a pay on the spot fine unless its way past the limit and then it could be a bit more painful. See below

>Has anyone heard the numbers that ralf has been caught speeding?

Dunno the original source, but I've seen this posted elsewhere:

Ralf Schumacher faces a road ban after he was caught speeding for the
third time. The German is expected to receive a three month ban and a
?1,000 fine after being clocked driving at 80mph in a 50mph zone.

To add insult to injury, the policeman who nabbed him refused to
believe who he was, and reputedly said: "If you?re Ralf Schumacher
then I?m Arnie Schwarzenegger." The Williams man had to ring wife Cora
to prove his identity.

Ralf was on his way to a BMW Christmas party in Kitzbuehl, Austria at
the time.

It is the third time he has been caught speeding. He was banned from
driving for a month in 1996 and for 14 days in April last year after
clocking 100mph on a road with a 60mph limit. He has also been
involved in a crash on a German motorway.

>if he has
>and has his licence taken from him can he still drive in F1?

Could he ever drive in F1...?
