It does look much more like a Williams to me ... remember they all look the same anyway as the differences are not huge. We should not give BAR to much of a hard time for copying as it was not that many years ago that Ferrari produced a Williams in red, or so they were accused. This car was not brilliant but it started them off in the right direction ... thus if you are heading in the wrong direction completely, then realigning yourself with last years winner is not the worst thing to do, but definitely not the best thing to do either. Whatever BAR do, they will be hopeless as they exist as the last stand for smoking advertising, and racing to win and all was NOT the first and foremost reason for the creation of the team. You have to want to win reall bad to win in F1, not just play at it ... er, Jaguar is demonstrating to everybody that is laughing at them ... infact I am having trouble typing this thinking about how pathetic both those teams are Pete |

Without launch control I think the starts would be more interesting. Otherwise the software mapping at Minardi probably isn't as good as it is at Williams. Take it away and maybe a driver's talent (or lack there of) could show through a little better. |

Actually I was more thinking it looked like a Williams since their designer Willis went to BAR. But then again it is hard to judge from these pics. Also as with all aerodynamical solutions, you end up eventually with the same shape, whether you want to or not. Latest F1 rumours: Talk about banning the electronic aids. Don't think it would make a lot of a difference anyway. |

I guess one reason why 'to bother with it' even if you clearly know you won't win the WC is, that it is a business. With all the TV money coming in, they made a nice living, but by now the costs have spiraled (once again) out of control. JV has also made himself unemployable by any of the big car makers with his off handed comments. Personally I hate to listen to the polished speeches by the Mc Laren of Ferrari boys, but the reality is, that big sponsors want to have it that way. In that regard I even thought JV was refreshing, but you're right, if you cry 'Wolf' too many times, it starts to get old fast. I also agree with your statement about the wasted career. Made a super start. I 'followed' him in the States in CART and loved his driving and was thrilled to see him give Hill a run for the money and clinch the title eventually. But it was all downhill from there. Like Alesi threw his chances away by going to Ferrari, JV should have never signed with BAR and kept his mouth shut. |

Well BAR has lauched the new car amidst the usual hoopla and claims of being able to fight it out with everyone on the grid. No surprises there. I suppose if you don't feel that way, why bother to mount an effort. But it's sad to see JV already starting the psyching out of his team mate. JV, for what ever reason, threw his career away. He's probably no longer employable by one of the top three for reasons of salary, age, etc., and all he can do is gripe and make accusations regarding the abilities of other drivers. It has grown tiring. I read somewhere that Pollock is putting together a Champ Car team for next season. Gee, I wonder who his driver will be. Personally, I can't wait to see JV out of F1. |

Yup, I remember that. All that fuzz, we did it in the other leagues, so we will be successfull here from the start, blablabla. I always welcome new comers to the sport and wish them luck, but not in that case. Couldn't wait to see them fail and didn't have to for long. Currently I'm "torn" on whether to wish Jordan all the best to stay afloat or hope to see them go under so Mateschitz (Red Bull) can take them over and start with his all American dream team. Eddie Undera-Cheever would be the team's boss. ...in a perfect world both teams would be around...<sigh> On the same token: Does anybody remember the F1 days where they had to do a prequalifying on Wednesdays because they had too MANY teams? |

What success did they expect being headed by that arrogant no hoper Craig @@llock. Funny I still remember his F1 initiation speech, came across like its so easy and anyone can do it, hmmm wonder if he's managed to wipe all the egg off his smug face yet! |

It costs them so expensive to keep Villeneuve in team and they can not find enough money for developments. And i agree with Andreas , copying is no the solution. |

BAR is under immense pressure from Honda and also from Villeneuve who threatened to quit if they don't come up with something good. However copying last year's Ferrari won't just cut it as technology evolves. Many teams have copied others last year's car but weren't successful with them and obviously they lack the engine too. Even last year's Ferrari engine won't guarantee podium places as Sauber has learned. |
BAR To Produce 'Ferrari In White'... According to sister-site planet-f1, the rumours from the BAR factory are that the BAR005 could be a Ferrari in white... Although Technical Director Geoffrey Willis has now been with BAR for over a year, this is the first chassis he will have produced for the team, having worked with the Malcolm Oastler designed BAR004 last year. And apparently the rumours from the BAR factory suggest that it will look more like the F2002 than the BAR004.
I don't think it would matter since the Honda engine can't produce the reliability and strenght compared to the Ferrari engine. To keep improving you need to know how to develop your own package and this way they will be chasing the facts IMO What do you guys think of BAR copying the succesful F2002 ?? Will this help BAR ?? |
