Rob, I was only getting up to 155-160 at TWS on my 600, no speedo, calculated by RPMs and gearing. My lap times on the long track were about 1:58, but I never really got up to speed on the back section before I had to retire. I don't recall what laptimes the fastest guys were doing. The four-wheelers definitely have an edge on cornering speed with all that traction they're carrying around, but the superbikes have the edge on braking and acceleration. You guys should watch the Daytona 200 Superbike race. Even if you don't know the racers, it's a great race. The only one for the AMA season where they do pit stops, due to the length of the race. It's in early March during Bike Week, I think it's a couple/three weeks after the Daytona 500 nascar thingee. |

ROB: At the last Dunlap (superbike and Formula Extreme) test the Hondas were gong over 180mph on the bank. I have no idea how fast a MotoGP could go, but they have about 220HP in a 260# package, superbikes weigh 360#s and have about 170hp. With that kind of acceleration you can make up for a lack of cornering speed, I guess. I would have thought different though. Art |

Art & Rob, Not sure about different track layouts from year to year but I do know the new Grand Am Spec Prototypes are much slower than the pure LMP cars that ran there the past few years. Last years pole time was a 1:42 (http://www.grandamerican.com/race_results/view_final.cfm?ider=17&sort=pos ). I am not sure of the configurations but I think the 962 back in the early 90's ran sub 1:40's but that could have been with a differnet infield course. Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23 |

Hmm, that's weird Art as I thought cars were faster overall too. 4 wide rubber wheels down instead of two narrow ones. I know at TWS cars are much faster. An amatuer racer was saying he hits 165 mph on the oval and his 2.9 lap times are 2:20, but our RX7's turn 2:04's only hitting 110 mph top speed. Ron R on here use to race bikes at TWS, maybe he can say more. |

After Thursday qualifying, the Ferrari's are: 4th in class #35 Risi Comp/FoD-FoH 5th in class #33 Ferrari of Washington 7th in class #34 Ferri Comp/ FoOntario 12th in class #20 JMB 14th in class #22 JMB Later in practice the #35 and 20 cars lowered their lap times. #20 would have qualified between #35 and #33 if he had done it in qualifying. |

Thanks for the site. I just noticed that those guys aren't going that fast. When I was there last, the Superbike guys were running in the 49s or so, and when I last ran (late 80s) we were running middle 50s on our bikes. WE also had a chicane that I don't think that they have. I always thought the cars were faster. Art |
