"So take all this anomalies out and you'd have ended up with the usual red 1-2 procession." Of course, that's why you have the race. Otherwise you could just end the weekend with qualifying and go home. The strongest team will make it to the front, they just made mistakes this time. |

Maybe the underdog statement has something to it: Just learned that Badoer crashed the only 2003 F1 Ferrari there is/was. He is unhurt, but the car toast. Allegedly some mechanical failure. Now it is unclear, whether Ferrari will even be able to produce two 2003 cars for Imola. Also there are rumours about electronic problems with the motor management. Not that I'm worried, but we might be in for a really more interesting season. |

I was joking about the underdog bit. I was talking to a friend at work and I was telling him how we were now the underdogs and everyone would now feel sympathy for our plight! To be honest, even as a Ferrari fan I thought the weekend was great. It just makes me look forward to the next races even more. I've never heard Matchett comentate but Martin Brundle is great. Even though it's a while since he was an F1 driver, he can still read what's happening in a race. When he was with Mussay it was a perfect partnership. James Allen was a great pit-lane reporter but he's very irritating as a commentator. From what I've read on this and another forum it sounds like there is nowhere in the world with 100% good commentary! |

I have Matchett's book, but haven't yet found a moment to read it (my to read book pile is always growing, not shrinking). I know it's one of the best F1 reads out there. I knew he was MS's mechanic, but it still amazes me, how these guys see these minute details. All I saw was Quick Nick going off. Speaking of commentators: Obviously I love Matchett and also good ol' mumbles Hobbs. But that third Speed guy, what a goof! But still better than the ABC guys. Anthony, underdogs might be putting it a bit harsh. In reality without the black flag OR the stuck rear tire nut, MS would have won this. They misgambled also obviously with the tires and Rubens overdid it. So take all this anomalies out and you'd have ended up with the usual red 1-2 procession. And unless something goofy happens again in Malaysia, I think we're back where we left last year's season. So the underdog thing will be gone by say Interlagos.

Have you read Steve Matchett's books 'Life in the Fast Lane' and 'The Mechanic's Tale'? I would highly recommend them. I was absolutely gutted when Rubens went off! He was on the wrong tyres though and he also had to serve a penalty for jumping the start. Did you see the replay? He jumped the start in a huge way! Agree with you Andreas(sorry for being drunk when I phoned you!) it was a really great race. Also, as we're the underdogs now everyone will love us again! |

Steve Matchett used to be M. Schumacher's mechanic/engineer at Benetton, I believe. So it's not surprising that he should know a thing or two about Formula 1 cars. |

Oops, there goes my interpretation...Thought he got oversteer on the curbs. Well, I'm just an armchair racer you know.
Steve Matchett (sp?) from Speed always amazes me. As Quick Nick was on his way out he diagnosed front suspension failure within a fraction of a second. I couldn't tell at all and now after the race I read, that he was spot on. Amazing these guys! |

I read RB said that he just came a little to hot into the corner, and started understeering. He was still running intermediates at the time. |

WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY PHANTASTIC WONDERFUL RACE!!!! Sorry for shouting, but finally a real race. There was more action in Melbourne than in the entire 2002 season. This going to be good! Rubens came high onto the curbs and lost it. Similar thing happened to MS, that's we he lost his barge boards. There are some tricky curbs in Melbourne, not all, but some are rather high and slippery and whip your car around. My Fantasy count is way down, oh well, so what. Ferrari will be back in Malaysia, no doubt. But those darn Michelins certainly closed the gap. |

Did anybody find out exactly what happened in the RB incident? Not quite sure.

I didn't realise that. I do know that this was the first time in almost 5 years that there hasn't been a single Ferrari driver on the podium. |

Ah Well, at least we're the underdogs now. What a great race! Really disappointed for Rubens and certainly not happy to see David on the podium. Ferrari have now had 159 poles, 159 wins, and 159 fastest laps! |

Well, thanks to the new points system, MS is only 5 points down to DC as opposed to 7 when using the old system. Amazing race as expected, too bad the wrong McLaren won (I was really rooting for Kimi, he showed that he could hang with MS). Everyone had their share of bad luck, so Mr. 'It's my turn this year' finally got his dream start to his campaign. Let's hope the team can rebound from this setback in two weeks time. |
