To paraphrase SNL: After the members of Congress renamed the fries into Freedom Fries and Freedom Toast, they were so proud of their work, that they congratulated each other and started to Freedom kiss each other.

"My only question: Why do you care about a Chevy or Dodge participation?" Because I've seen some ridiculous reactions to anything French or France-related ever since the US has named them as the major hurdle in getting the war legitimised. Such as renaming French fries as freedom fries, boycotting French wine, Dijon mustard and other French products, calling the French cowards and other degrading names etc. etc.

Because both of them will once again beat the Ferrari's and those of us who own American cars that have beaten Ferrari at LeMans like to see the tradition carried on.

Chevy and Dodge are commercial entreprises, $$$ rule, so I bet they'll be at Le Mans. Whether the French join or not. Doesn't matter. There was a similar (brief!) discussion regarding the annual air show near Paris, which is the biggest commercial show. Obviously normally a huge presence by the American companies. This is even more sensitive as it is much more related to politics and war with the fighter jets, bombers etc. But that air show will go on as planned, all American companies will be there, regardless of the politics between the two countries. So a 'minor' thing like Le Mans will see US participation. My only question: Why do you care about a Chevy or Dodge participation?
sorry, couldn't resist |

But will the US teams like the Vipers and Corvettes still go to Le Mans? This answer would logically go to the Off topic folder, something that I have tried to avoid by posting the question in this folder instead. Anyway, I think the French might be true to their word, but I don't think that Saddam has enough chem/bio weapons left to launch a devastating attack on the US-led invasion force. Just my opinion, you don't have to debate it to death. All will be clear (or even foggier) by the time the war's over, say 2-3 months from now. |

I think there is too much contractual money in F1 to pull out. We had the Monza race shortly after September 11 and thereafter the Indy GP despite all the fear of further attacks. Security will be thighter at Sepang this year, but I'm sure it will happen. If the war goes to plan, it should be rather quick, so I don't foresee much issues after the Malaysian GP. |

Racing is already being impacted by the econ. FI has trouble getting 20 cars. Indy will be the smallest field ever, Cart is down. As far as the French go as they've already said they will join the US if Saddam uses chemical weapons which I think he will and if they are true to their word they will soon be fighting along side the US. |

Maybe the war won't affect anything but this virus might: http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns08791.html |

I have no idea about Le Mans and I certainly wouldn't want to predict what people in the US are thinking as they've surprised me at every turn so far! As for F1 it seems to be business as usual: http://www.f1i.com/articles/ARTICLE_498597.html |

Here's a serious question. What do you think? Will some rounds of the F1 be cancelled? Will American teams boycott this year's Le Mans because of their stupid "you're with us or against us" belief?
