Lee , button got caught in a 330D and yes the speed was a bit higher than what BMW claimed to be the top speed.

I believe Button got caught in a diesel model Merc and his speed was a tiny bit higher than the car's advertised top speed.

Schumacher also owns a 550 Barchetta in black over brown/tobacco. He also has an F40 and a Fiat 500.
Mika Salo owns a 355 Spider .
Rubens owns a 456 M in Sao paulo .
Button does own a 360 Modena that he bought during his first year in F1..I think its Giallo.

Button and Montoya are wussies ...I went faster in a BMW in France than both of them without getting caught ! Williams should hire me :-) Upload

I know that Jenson Button (per F1 magazine) has a 360 modena and an M5 saloon.

Thank you for clearing that up, Anthony. And sorry that I confused you with Andreas, I was merely glancing at the names and I somehow must've mixed the two of you up.

More info...
Duncan Hamilton & Co are storing the car for Eddie as he hasn't used it in the last 4 years. Eddie has told them that they are allowed to advertise it and if they get any interest he might sell it.
If anyone wants to buy it for less than Duncan Hamilton & Co will charge then e-mail me and we'll sort it out!:-)

Andreas, this could be your chance! You don't even have to tell Karen, just stick your 308's licence plate on it!!

MFZ, My wife has just phoned Eddie's father and he assured her that the car is not for sale and that Eddie is thinking about taking it over to Milan. At the moment it is at one of Eddie's houses in Oxford. She told him that Duncan Hamilton seem to think they are selling the car. He will double-check with Eddie and then give Duncan Hamilton & Co a ring!
Will keep you posted on developments...

MFZ, actually it was Anthony who mentioned Eddie's GTO. But it is nice being confused with Anthony. I don't mind that. Also especially since Eddie and the GTO are close to my heart anyway.

Jean Todt got a custom 550 Barchetta Pininfarina, not an Enzo, and the 456M was also given to (as opposed to purchased by) Schumacher.

The Enzo is in heavy demand as it is, I think it makes sense to sell your limited edition cars instead of giving it away for free. Besides, the cars that Ferrari do gave away for free to their valued employees tend to be more special than the rest of the regular line anyway. As mentioned, Schumacher's 456M had a unique color (sort of a two tone grigio), Todt received a limited edition 550 Barchetta Pininfarina which had 575M-style headlights and dashboard and Luca di Montezemelo received a 360 Barchetta (looks like a 360 Spider minus the two roll hoops) as his wedding present in 2000.

I'm sure Schumacher was allocated an Enzo if he wanted to purchase it, the source where I read that he might not get one from the first batch was the Autocar Enzo Ferrari book. It had a chapter where Schumacher was quoted as saying that he was waiting for his 575M, but is not sure that there are any Enzos left for him from the then original run of 349 cars when he was asked if he will own one.

And thanks to Bart's link, I found out that he indeed will get to buy one, and again, in a special color too.

Andreas, Eddie Irvine did sold his GTO, if not, then these Duncan Hamilton people should be sued for false advertising regarding their car's history:

Perhaps my earlier answer wasn't that clear. Going back to Jamil's question, yes, the drivers for each team would normally use cars from their engine suppliers during the race weekend, but their personal cars is a different thing altogether, as I assume, what they do with their money is their own business.

Is that true...? One of the best racecar drivers, ever couldn't get on the list for an Enzo...? What kind of crap is that...?

MFZ, Eddie still has the GTO. He hasn't sold it. He also has a Mustang that he uses in Florida.

Touche!

BTW: "einen kippen" in German means "lets have a drink".

For those who missed the plot: The A-Klasse didn't meet the Elk test and tipped over on heaving breaking/turning.

This is the Merc that MFZ is talking about, albeit a model.

This one was Hakinnen's. There was also one for DC.

What I've heared, MS and JT are receiving a special Enzo.
It will be a ink'd one, done the same way as the F1 car with the same colour, a bit more orange.

MS owns these cars aswell :
- 550 Maranello
- 575M
- 456M (Which I've seen @ Kerpen) Although I thought it was a 456GT
- Lancia estate
- Maserati Spyder

From the other drivers, I haven't got a clue

Schumacher once owned a Bugatti EB 110, which he sold off recently. He also owns a 550 Maranello, and he recently received a special 456M in a unique color combination. Suppposedly he was trying to buy an Enzo, but he wasn't on the list for the original 349. I don't know if the extra 50 cars made had one with his name on it though. Yes, most of the times the Schumachers rented Mercs, since they need the extra seats for the kids, a problem Ferrari supposedly tried to alleviate by giving him the 456M.

Mika Hakkinen used to own a Ferrari and actually drove one to an F1 test, but sold it off after Ron Dennis supposedly got mad on his star pilot for driving a rival brand's car. His wife also used to drive a BMW Z8 while attending races. However, McLaren supplies Mercedes A-Class (front wheel drive compact cars, predecessors to the Smart car) to their drivers on GP or test weekends.

JPM supposedly owns a tricked out Mini Cooper S. Jacques Villeneuve had a Renault Spider while he was with Williams-Renault. Eddie Irvine owned several Ferraris, but I do know that he sold the 288 GTO long ago.

Sauber gets Proton cars to use in Malaysia, since Petronas owns a chunk of Proton, but supposedly they use Mercedes cars in Europe.

The fact is, most F1 drivers don't necessarily own or drive a brand that sponsors/supplies their team's engines.

I have the "scenario" for the January 2001 test at Barcelona, including hotel arrangements etc.

The booklet also lists the rental cars and when "on the job", these guys drive quite mondaine cars...

Schumacher got an Alfa Romeo 166 and Luca badoer a Lancia K. Rubens was not attending.

I remember long ago when ESPN carried F1, they had a segment called "ask the driver". Viewers would send in questions on postcards and every race, ESPN would pick a question and get the drivers to answer it.

Once, the question was what kind of personal car they drove. I remember it ran like a commercial for Mercedes.

(OT: the only other question I remember was how would they feel if a woman were racing among them... their responses were covered with stark, blatant, honest chauvinism. Most of them found the notion so inconceivable, they exploded into laughter. I don't think a single one of them gave a serious response.)

I remember going to a testing session at Silverstone in 1999 (I think). Mika Salo and Pedro Diniz were driving for Arrows. Mika had a very well used 355. It was filthy inside and out and was covered in dead bugs! Pedro Diniz drove a Volvo Estate (station wagon)!

Michael Schumacher has a couple of Ferraris but he and his wife mainly drive Mercs.

JPM just got caught on French highways doing 204 km/h (with a 130 limit) in his BMW X5. Button still holds the BMW record with 228 km/h caught in 2000.

Its obvious Michael and Rubens drive Ferraris. DC and Kimi drive Benzs. Webber and Pizzonia drive Jags. And Jaun Montoya and Ralf drive BMWs. But what about the rest of the guys Minardi, Sauber, Jordan? Dont tell me the Renault drivers drive Renaults as everyday cars and Panis and DaMatta drive Toyotas.
