Hi all, I'll give this one away then... There is no Ferrari influence or relation whatsoever. What makes the car special is the fact that it is powered by a DIESEL engine! It is the Itala Speciale Diesel of Giovanelli & Vaggelli during the 1934 Mille Miglia. Amazingly enough, they finished the race in 22nd spot with a total time of 18'46"52 for the full 1000 miles! Not bad at all when you consider that this car must have been horrendously underpowered and the conditions of the roads back then. It took another 22 years, a quantum leap in technology and much better roads (everything is relative!) to come close to 10 hours! I'll see if I can dig up more mystery pics. Jack |

Okay Jack, it must be a 8c2300. I must admit I first would have gone for the 6c1750 as it looks real similar to one in NZ ... that was a team car. But the window frame and grill lead me to the 8c2300. Have no idea of the car or location, but wonder if you are hinting at one of the rear Enzo Ferrari drives ... and this is what makes it special? (any 8c is special to many ). Although I did not think Enzo actually raced in the Mille Miglia. I know he raced a 8c2300 in a sort some sort of race against Nuvolari in a 6c ... and naturally Nuvolari kicked his arse, even though Nuvolari had to stop to jam his throttle wide open after the linkage failed My 2 cents worth. Hi Jeff, >>>I'd guess that it's an Alfa 6C1500 or 1750 Nope. >>>from about 1929 to 1931. Nope, later. >>>Mille Miglia? Yes, but where (I don't know that myself either...)? >>>Nuvolari? Nope. >>>Varzi? Nope. >>>Campari? Nope. I had never seen a picture of this car before and google-ing etc. did not bring up an image either. It is also not any book in my (small!) library... Jack |

Too tough, Jack! I don't have any reference material to help me out with this one. I'd guess that it's an Alfa 6C1500 or 1750, from about 1929 to 1931. Mille Miglia? Nuvolari? Varzi? Campari? |

While we are still trying to figure out the Ascari car, I thought it'd be nice to post the next one already... This is one that I have already figured out (I think....) and it's NOT a Ferrari so if you don't want to spend time on it, just ignore this thread.
Name the car Name the event & year Name driver & codriver Name the location (I haven't figured that one out yet...) What makes this car special? Jack |
