There is a picture of Charles de Tornaco driving this car at the 1952 Belgian G.P. showing race no. 34 on page 25 of the book "Ferrari Ecurie Garage Francorchamps." Page 24 has a picture of the same transporter. When the car was reworked and sold to de Portago it carried a new S/N, 0540. |

Hi, Guys: From Classic & Sportscar, 7/87: "The Belgian Ecurie Francorchamps machine, '0208', raced by Swaters, Roger Laurent, and the unfortunate Baron Charles de Tornaco who was killed in it during testing at Modena's Aerautodromo, was subsequently reworked as a 625 for the Spanish Marquis de Portago in 1955...." |

Hi Bart, I followed more or less the same reasoning... I searched extensively for the combination of the # 34 and the (ecurie) Franchorchamps on the truck and my conclusion is indeed as mentioned below. But, I could be way off as it is purely based on assumptions. Jack |

Jack, it would make sence. Charles de Tornaco did enter the Spa Race with number 34 in a Ferrari 500, were he drove for Ecurie Francorchamps. I'm not sure if it were at Spa, since the truck could just be his own. Mmmz, it's probably at Spa, since that was the only time de Tornaco drove with #34 I'll search for SN# later, got to work again |

Moving on to the next "unknown quantity".... I have these 3 pictures which are modern prints from vintage negatives (don't have the negatives, don't even know if they survive). I don't know ant better than that is Charles de Tornaco's 500 at Spa during the 1952 GP of Belgium. Is this correct?
Can we pin a S/N to this car? Jack |
