Scott: I have seats in the N vista section 21 that i wont give up for the end of the world. They are 2 rows from the top and butt up against the NW vista stands. i have an unrestricted view of the first turn thru 7 and part of the front and rear straights. Lots of action in this section of the track and a large TV screen to watch the rest of the action. |

The H is at the end of the straight. One thing that stands out there is how hard they stop. 200+ down to maybe 40-50mph, in less than 300 feet. But once you've seen that, its better to walk the track, see each corner, then start finish if close at the end. Art |

Once they come back from the infield and hit the oval, it is flat out until they brake for the first turn (F1). So you won't be able to see any passing between turn 1 and 2 (Indy). That's why the H stand is so popular, one of the few places for overtaking under braking. |

2001 race, we had seats between 1 and 2 (Indy) and figured we would see great passing but saw follow the leader. |

Art, yeah being friends with Tony would probably get you a Paddock pass. Way cool. The news deal is probably dead: Back in the eighties I was able to pull some of that off, but nowadays Bernie controls all the press passes. The number of passes is actually limited and the European press has the majority of them. The US (or any other non European country for that matter) gets only a small fraction of passes. I know this, because I once met a pro shooting pics at Indy standing right next to me. I asked him, what he was doing with the rest of the foot soldiers like me and he explained, that his agency only got so many passes. And that was a legit biz. So keep your customers close to you. Send them a box of cigars or some nice VSOP Cognac for X-mas. On second thought: Give me their address and I'll send them the Brisagos.

Andreas: I have clients who are friends with Tony George, and if I were going, I'd take one of them, that's how I'd do it. I don't know how to get into the pits otherwise, but maybe a press pass. Know anyone in the news business? Art |

H (turn 4) is great for the braking zone - High up is important due to the catch fences - moving around is fun, but only possible during practice days Very well said and I totally agree as that was where we viewed the 2002 race. |

Art, is there a way to get into the pits other than being a Paddock member? I agree with all the comments here: - H (turn 4) is great for the braking zone - High up is important due to the catch fences - moving around is fun, but only possible during practice days My additional comments: During practice days I normally like to sit way up high in the grandstands opposite the pits and lurk into them. Also the tight infield turns have some nice hills from where to watch the action. My fav is the 'photographer's hill', a section where you get the cars at slow speeds unobstructed by fences. The guy with the biggest lens, that would be me.

Last year was my first, but the best spot to me was the stands at the end of the straight. Does anyone know the exact section at the turn in? Last year we were about 100 yards down from the Ferrari pits/finsih line at pit exit on the inside. All you saw were the cars zooming by and the TV's were small. I didn't like these seats. Watched qualifying from the outside stands in the Indy turn 1. That was pretty good and there was a large TV. During practice watched all along from the infield. Here are pics from last year with all the views except qualifying mentioned above. http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/251280/144024.html

Don't sit. Move around the track, see each corner. There are tvs at each corner. Make use of the track. See it all. If you can, figure out how to get into the pits, look at the cars. Art |

Scott, I have been to the Indy 500 15 times and the F1 race all 3 years. The best seats for the F1 race are H or J stand as high as you can get. Fred |

Scott, I've found the best seats to be at the exit of Turn 4 (oval). As always, higher up is better, since this is at the end of the main straight, and provides a view of the first several turns. If you like walking and general admission, the mounds they built in the infield are fun since you get a good, close shot of the cars moving slowly. |

Hey everyone, I just got back from the Indy 500 and have a question about seats for the GP in September. For the 500, I was in section C, 3 rows back. For the GP, I would like some seats near some of the turns, and was thinking of the following sections: Southeast Vista Northeast Vista North Vista Section A (no turns, but near finish line) Any thoughts/experiences would be greatly appreciated. ~ Larmer |
