Every year he improves. Please explain how is he overrated? Putting the car on poles, multiple podium finishes... There's only a handfull of F1 drivers do that. Other drivers have the potential but are in under funded teams.

Time will tell but I'll bet you eat those words.

Montoya will be history by the time MS retires.
He is overrated by the media. The sooner he goes back to CART the better.

No engine cooked last weekend. No engine cooked at Monte Carlo. Wouldn't you say that JPM is getting better? Or BMW is making a JPM proof powerplant?

The only thing being cooked rigth now is the championship.

I came across JPM, Ralf and Michael once and basically agree with your assessment Jerry. Michael was a nice guy in person too.

I also think Ruben sits on the bubble and Ferrari would like to have JPM. He fits the profile (think Leone Mansell) and more important he is a big star in Ferrari's most important car market, North America.

However I doubt, that MS would allow Montoya in 'his' team and I bet Mr. 20% has already written a clause into MS' contract, that grants him the ultimate veto right over who becomes his teammate. And MS would never allow Montoya as that guy would never accept #2 status.

My friend shot a commercial with JPM at the A 1 ring in Austria and said he is totally cool. Ralf on the other hand was an A$$. Ferrari would love him to be there driver beyond MS. If you ask me Ruben is on the bubble. And without a contract extention this summer he will be gone in 04. Making way for JPM of course.

Formula One is cyclical when MS retires the key principles also have contracts that expire. It would do Montoya no good to go there. It has started already with other teams superior in some areas .Remember before this run started Ferrari stunk up the grid. How quickly we forget the pre MS aera.

I think that by the time Schumacher has gone it may be too late for Montoya, and isn't Massa in place for one of the seats ?

From the other side, I would not be surprised if When MS left, both Ross Brawn and Jean Todt may go as well, making Ferrari address all areas.

Aggressive would make for a better TV show.

2002 was such a dull year to watch.

Senna, Montoya, Zanardi... I love to watch a driver that might pull something out of thin air. Or someone that keeps the car just a hair over the edge all the time and gets away with it.

Schumacher is so smooth and makes it look so easy that its dull to watch.

Alain Prost used to crash a lot too ... experience reduces this and Montoya in a winning car would have less crashes, because he would not have to over drive the car.

Rather have Alonso though ...

obviously he has talent and cojones, but he's too hot headed and loses control.I'd much rather see a kimi raikkonen at ferrari, talent and cojones also but keeps his cool.now if only he could open up and say more than a couple of words.oh and you probably know schumi and the gang have extended thier contracts.

"despite having the most talent of just about any other driver on the circuit, he has crashed far more frequently"

I think you just made Dan360's case. The description sounds like Gilles.

MOntoya would be a disaster in a Ferrari. Take a look at his record: despite having the most talent of just about any other driver on the circuit, he has crashed far more frequently than Michael, etc.

Actually the article states, that JPM would replace MS after MS retires.

Montoya in a Ferrari? How cool would that be! I mean I'm a Ferrari fan already, but seeing my favourite driver in my fav car, that's mind boggling.

I don't think they would team him up with Schumacher. Those two would butt heads and eventually cars. That is the last thing Ferrari or any team wants when you are racing cars that cost that much. He is a good driver but it would have to happen after Schunacher retires.

Thought people might be interested in this rumour - via the BBC website (and the Gazetta newspaper).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/motorsport/formula_one/2955702.stm

I think Montoya would be great in Ferrari F1, personality, agression, like Gilles V.
