I've wondered why they do this anyway. It's still my opinion that at Indy last year Michael didn't want Rubens to win, but just finish "close" or tie (which is dumb because of the thousandths of a second - a Ralf moment). Race hard til the very end! |

Greg Norman of golfing fame put it another way. "90% of the time, if the ball does not make it to the cup, the putt will not fall in".

How did Stirling Moss put it once? Uh... In order to finish first, you first have to finish.... Jack |

Remember Nigel Mansell at Montreal, slowed down on the last lap and was waving to the crowd. He also had a huge lead and while waving managed to knock a switch which killed the engine ... Apparently when the mechanics got the car back all they had to do was reset the switch and the thing fired and was perfect ... but then Mansell was known for the ocassional stupid action. Personally you are a complete idiot to take anything for granted in motorsport. Nothing but nothing should distract your concentration until you have 100% passed that chequer flag ... same as idiot motor cycle racers wheelieing passed the flag, risking very embarrassing mistake. In the end the race win is everything! Pete |

Hear, Hear. You show off after you win, NOT BEFORE! Can't he wave doing at least 140....100.....for crying out loud......50. Dumbass. On top of that he does it at Monaco. That's one for the Darwin Awards

I taped the F3000 race from Monoco and hadn't had the chance to watch it. For those who are not aware Bjorn Wierdheim had a commanding lead for both the race and Championship. Nicolas Kiesa was at least 10 seconds behind. On the last lap at the last corner Wierdheim starts slowing and moving close to the wall to congratulate his crew and slows down a bit too much (in fact he thought he had corsses the finish line). In fact Kiesa is flat out and passes Wierdheim 7 feet from start finish to win the race. I have never in my 20+ years of watching racing seen anything like this. I have seen people screw up, blow up and give up on the last lap but this was truely the biggest f*ckup in racing I have ever seen. If Wierdheim loses the Championship by 2 points he will never live this down. Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23 FLATOUT RACING Website: http://neverlift.homestead.com/flatout.html |
