Stupid! Race for the position via qualifying. Speed wins! not some random lottery. The show is weak enough. Why make it more of a farce or NACARish with gimmicks.Drive to qualify and drive to win....thats the ticket most people want I would bet...JMHO |

has anyone done the analysis of pole position -vs- final position? this is an obvious discussion to have post-monaco where pole position (if memory serve) historically means MUCH more than on any other f1 circuit. randomness is a silly idea imo. i thought this was a skill-based exercise, not a "game of chance". what about giving the pole positions strategic choices to make. say, the #1 guy could choose to stay there or could choose to go back four slots and be able to tweak something on his car between qualifying and the race that can't be tweaked right now. make it a strategic decision with downside that the team must make. that might mix it up better. no randomness. just a thought. doody. |

How about this. If you qualify at the top of the list you get your name in the hat 10 times. If you qualify second then you get your name in the hat 8 times on down the line until 6th place and beyond get only one name in the hat. 1 - 10 2 - 8 3 - 6 4 - 4 5 - 2 >5 - 1 This way qualifying still means something. |

I can see Bernie pulling the ping pong balls out of the lottery machine, I say let them run for the pole then invert the field, would make the first turn a lot more interesting and make as much sense as what Bernie wants to do |

Bernie doesn't like the current qualifying session. He had some ideas, all involving some form of chance/pure luck/drawing/lottery for the first ten positions of the grid. Mosley so far said no way for this year, but maybe next year. Turning the coveted pole position in a pure luck thing is IMHO degrading to F1. We'll see. |
