It just dawned on me, that we might be able to witness F1 history in the making: *IF* neither JPM nor Kimi scores and Michael wins (or comes 2nd), he will not only clinch the title at the famous Indianapolis track, he will also enter the history books as the first (and probably only ever) six times World Champion! And some of us might actually be there to witness this. *IF* it happens. |

I know, excitement builds! This will be my fourth USGP, so you would think it is an old hat for me. Naahh! I'm excited like a little girl (as Mike Meyers would say in Sprokets). Looking forward to see you guys and your kewl cars. Oh and did I mention, that mine is the one with the rear wing?
Sadly my friend won't accompany us to dinner on Friday: He'll be hanging with some folks from the Ferrari F1 team...Bastard that he is.

In a nutshell (copied from Brickyard site): The results of the Italian Grand Prix have set up an exciting World Championship showdown that will unfold at the United States Grand Prix on Sept. 28 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Michael Schumacher, who won in Italy in his Ferrari, leads the Drivers Championship with 82 points. 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya, who finished second in Italy in his Williams-BMW, is second in points with 79. Kimi Raikkonen, who finished fourth in Italy in his West McLaren-Mercedes, is third with 75. Schumacher could clinch a record sixth Drivers Championship in Indianapolis if he manages to gain a 10-point advantage over his rivals. If that does not happen, the championship fight will go down to the wire at the season finale Oct. 12 in Japan. The last time three drivers were still in contention for the World Championship in the final race of the season was in 1986, when Alain Prost won the title over Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet. *** Close battle for fourth: A close battle is raging for fourth place in the Drivers Championship between Ralf Schumacher (58 points), Rubens Barrichello (55) and Fernando Alonso (55). David Coulthard (45) is still in the hunt, as well.

Hey Cart guys: From FCA-CIC site: Fast Times Carting will host a Ferrari car display and cart racing. Ferrari parking will be provided. Check out the cars and then try your hand at driving a cart against Formula One and/or IRL drivers. As of this writing the IRL and Formula One drivers had not been officially named, but suffice to say they will be hard to beat regardless. This should be a fun way to kick off the Formula One Racing weekend. Fast Times is located at 96th and Keystone just off I-465 on the north side of Indianapolis. Contact Kent Baker for more information. 317-431-7191 |

The 'cathedral of speed' is supposed to be the track the F2003 (and Bridgestones) was designed for, so it will perform. My prediction for Monza: Ruebens first, Schummy second and Montoya third (all Schummy cares about is staying ahead of Montoya, and draft will help guarantee that result). Then Ferrari and Schummy drive to glory in Indy, with Montoya/Williams second! It will be a great day!! |

Jim, Rob, I can't wait to meet you guys at the FChat dinner. We'll have lots to talk. Arthur, book your flight. Unless some of the top contenders get seriously hurt between now and Indy, there is no mathermatical chance, that the WC will be decided. PS: Might sound gruesome, but true: All the reporters (TV, press) playing the numbers game always forget that one horrible option. In theory the WC could be over after Monza. But then again, who wants to think in terms of the sixties F1... |

Rob, I have a dang job that every once and awhile requires me to travel long distances, work long hours, and blah blah blah...(actually, I was in Colorado looking for a mountain cabin retreat). I did find time to go to Track Attack and collect a trophy at a 'Le Mans' style race in July, and yes, they will be open for business on F1 weekend. I don't recommend the 'Racing Adventure' package though, it is a rip-off. Save money and go for Race Experience. Andreas, I think there are a lot of people in Indy that are keeping tabs on motorsport of all kinds, but the community was sent into a tailspin by the IRL/Champ Car breakout. It used to be all open wheeled racers were Indy500 cars, now everyone is confused. It also looks a lot like the Indy 500 from a fan perspective, and lots of folks (about 400,000) already dished out for Indy 500 race in May. I wonder if June is really a good idea for the masses?? Also, I don't think the masses understand the point of a race series where it is usually impossible to pass (the rap on F1). I think IRL popularity relates to passing ability on oval tracks..even with the drivers. I think a good championship race will get noticed here though. It will justify the ticket prices to a lot of folks, I suspect. It might also draw a wider fan base from all over USA. Nothing could be better for F1.

Andreas; The first USGP I had met a lot of locals that said " We are here out of near curiosity" I no my opinion they could not belive that this was a race series that was world wide. They just seemed to not understand it. Last year i ran across a few more in the area where i sit and they asked a lot of questions like "How come they dont do a rolling start?" Needless to say i did a lot of explaning that weekend. Rob P.S. yes it will be great that the points battle will be a full tilt battle this year.

Yes, it couldn't be any better. Unfortunately most of this drama is not being noticed by the US public in general. So I doubt the number of spectators will dramatically increase. The ones who wanted to see it, will come anyway and the others just don't know and/or care. I remember being at the Indy GP when Hakkinen rolled out with a blown engine. I realized immediately that this was probably the linch pin and sure enough a few races later Michael got the title. I remember screaming at the top of my lungs when that puff of smoke came out of the Mercedes and people around me looked at me like I'm nuts. They didn't grasp how vital that DNF was...or maybe they did and just thought I was nuts anyway.

Jim; Sounds like a possible plan playing chicken with the trees up around the divide. I went to the NASCAR race here a couple of years ago and did not care for it since the cars looked more like slot cars. That is what i love about open wheel, watching the cars slide around. Be good have fun. Rob

Sleds are actually more fun in the woods, with tight trails lined by killer trees. I trashed one last year...can't recall if it was in Michigan or Canada. It is rebuilt though, and I might have it in Colo this winter. If so, we can go out and thrash em. The Brickyard is fun. You can go get a beer (or Coke) and come back to an entirely new group of guys at the lead...or actually see some passing! But make no mistake about it, it is like watching sheetboxes compared to F1 cars going around the track....VVVVVVRRRRRRRROOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!!!! vs YYYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!! |

Jim; I will have to concede the bear chugging contest since i dont drink. But the sleds on your front yard sounds like a blast. Better yet race the sleds thru downtown mile high the next time the city gets shut down from the snow. I can always use an excuse to get back up to denver since it has been a few years since i was last there. perhaps i will take my X-Mas break up there to snowboard summit county. Have fun at the Brickyard Rob

I just wonder if they would accept one of my race licenses from the AMA or IJSBA when i raced motocross and Jet ski's. If worse comes to worse, it could be my rent a racer versus your TR. Anyway we are both on the list for dinner at capri. As for everyone else that was thinking about karting lets keep the channels open. who know we may still get together and do somthing after the dinner. Rob, I guess there weren't enough guys to reserve Track on Sat, Sept 27, but the word is that the track will be open to public that date. Here is the kicker, you have to get a Track Attack license first for public 'lap' session, unless it is a 'Race Adventure' program, which qualifies you for a license since they do school as part of the program. I will be going to Track on Aug 1 and will get more info then. |

Rob, I don't know if they have enough drivers for Track Attack event yet, but will try to find out. Did you send Joe Adams an email and let him know you are interested? As far as dinner, there is a Sat eve dinner (see thread on 2nd Annual Fchat meeting) at 8 pm at Capri's Rest already lined up. As far as drinks near the track, the American legion is right across from Gate G (I think), on Georgetown about 1/4 mile from 16th, and will be hosting FCA local chapter. Guys who need tickets in Stand H or NW Vista, go to www.fca-cic.org/purchase.htm and get them. $100 each. Credit cards OK. |

I'd suggest dinner on Saturday evening. Friday is the FCA dinner and Sunday I'm heading home. Also we should fix a time for at least drinks at the bar outside the track. Just in case some folks have their own plans. |

After talking to both fast times and johanssons karting It seems as there will be a premium price to have a group session at the karting centers. Dinner does not sound bad and then afterwards if some of us still have the itch, then those of us that want to can hit the karting tracks. Rob |

meeting for drinks or such should be easy enough if coordinated around the track (eg. the bar near the main entrance) as much as I'd love to go karting with you guys, I just don't see much of a time window for that just my $ 0.02 |

I like the go kart idea, but I'm not sure how you can cram all this into one weekend? FCA has a drive through town on Friday as well as a concours downtown followed by dinner. And Saturday/Sunday is buys at the Indy track anyway. |

Most of the car clubs have some sort of coral at the speedway... The BMW CORAL is outside the speedway and is primarily a parking/hangout. For the price of parking you can also receive breakfasts, dinners. Highlites last year the FW23 made an appearance for club members to ogle and a few dignitaries from BMW NA, Ghmb ... |

You could be the one more name we need to make it happen! Yes, you will have a race on your hands...Joe and I will chase you as hard as you want to go, dude! Indoor cart tracks??? Hey, check out some real open air/wheeled racing (100 mph+) at Track Attack. FCA-CIC is discussing hosting an event there for F1 weekend. Also, FCA-CIC park Ferraris at the American Legion rather than at the Car Corral for better security and proximity to Ferrari club hangout. |

Dont laugh but i am not going to tell you how bad they screwed up on the room rate for the weekend. All i can say is i got 3 nights for less than 1 night would be any other place. Now i have more money to spend on t-shirts, hats, strippers Etc. LOL |

I'm going this year for sure...it'll be my first race of ANY kind. This whole Ferrari thing has me multiple-obsessed, including a new interest in Formula 1 (my first sporting interest ever...yahoo!). I think I'm going to buy the section H tickets from the Indiana chapter of the FCA. They have to whole Ferrari Den and corral and all that going on, so it sounds like a good group to hook up with. I'll be driving (from Knoxville), but I haven't decided whether to bring the 308; don't know if I want to drive it that far. The police-escorted ride through town to the corral would be neat, though. What hotel are most folks staying at? |
