Actually it is true. He did this long haul on a Harley. His friend rarely got to drive at all.

Schumi,

PSK, what bar was that your friend saw MS at?

Er, it was an attempt at a joke over his grid position ... my wife always reminds me that my jokes and not funny ... guess she's right :-)

Is that for real Andreas? If so, WOW!

Wouldnt it be something to run into Michael in the middle of nowhere at a gas station in the midwest? "Ohhh Hi...um...come here often?" :-)

In case you haven't heard by now:

Michael was actually in Las Vegas. Rented a Harley with a friend of his and rode all the way to Indianapolis. The man has no fear and I bet Montezemolo and Todt had spleepless nights until he pulled into the motodrome.

The scooters were provided by Ferrari of Houston/Dallas. The two from last year are on the showroom floor at FoDallas. Michael and Rubens usually ride them just a little and then sign them and send them back. Rubens rides his more than Michael does.

It is much easier to slip onto a scooter and ride 100 yards than to lift your leg over a Ducati and have to get right back off. When he came to Indy first time, he took the Vespa and rode the entire track at slow speed so he could inspect the entire track surface carefully. It served a purpose for him.

I understand he has a friend in Colorado and another in Dallas with whom he likes to spend some time. I also understand that in Colorado he likes to ride motorcycles thru the mountains.

A mate of mine just rang and said he saw him last night knocking back the beers in his local bar ... guess that pathetic :-) grid position would require a bit of drowning!! Talk about putting pressure on yourself!

Me thinks that Bernie slipped him a couple of million to keep the championship alive to the final round.

Come on MS, you can do it :-)

I know in 2000 he stayed at the same hotel where Mike Tyson was arrested for raping that girl way back when - I can't think of the name, but it's a very expensive hotel in the heart of Indianapolis. FWIW..............

I would not be suprised if he stayed in Chicago. Not that I'm trying to plug Chicago, but for Corinna, there is better shopping on Michigan Ave. than in Indy. Also, Bernie Ecclestone stays here and takes a copter to the track every day.

what would Michael beiing doing in Texas if the race and practice sessions are in Indiana? I know there are jets, but it seems too far away.

Michael is in INDY. He was at the Pit Walkabout today. Here is a pic. You will have to enhance it to see him in the shadows. My cell phone camera is kind of weak.Upload

Reminds me of my weekend at Goodwood this summer: Juan Pablo was there (or as RACER called it: Juan Giant Leap). Next to the track a bunch of helicopters. Each time one of the ultra cool big helos took off or landed my friend and I speculated whether that was JPM or not. Silly I know.

There is a 'resort' in Indiana at a place called French Lick. Really. Very nice. About 1 1/2 hours from track. That would be my guess.

At the US GP, just after 9/11 (note the US flag on the barge board).

That was taken inside the paddock. It gets even lamer: He used the scooter to drive from the 'office' to the pit, which was literally 30 feet away. And we know how fit the guy is. So I can only think, that he is contractually obliged to drive the scooter.

Andreas,
Those pics are awesome! I think he's probably a real cool guy BUT GET A FREAKIN DUCATI MAN! SCOOTERS ARE SO LAME! :-) I know he uses it in the pits probably but give me a break. He's probably got a cute little bell on it too. When was that taken?

Matt, since he is your hero, these are for you:

Luckily I didn't have to say much when I "met" him. Just yelled "Michael" from the top of my lungs and that did the trick and he "posed".

I have to admit the guys my hero. I have no clue what I'd say if I saw him though. I begin to feel sorry for him and all the attention some the drivers have to deal with. Then I remeber what it is they do for a living and what they drive and how much they are paid. Suddenly I think I could handle the publicity.

I heard the same thing, likes to ride horses with his family. Good for him to get some time off.

I'm sure I would recognize him, but that's just me.

Reminds me of Indy a couple of years ago where he had dinner with his brother in a downtown restaurant. There of course were enough fans around to recognize them and immediately a huge line formed outside the restaurant.

LMAO. That makes sense!! Finally spotted by a kid on a motorcycle. It's funny to me that Michael claims to travel about freely in the USA but nobody ever spots him. I know he's not as recognized over here and that must be a joy for him. I thought I heard he dresses up in Wranglers and big belt buckles and kicks it western style.

Buehler? Buehler?

It is a brilliant question Matt and I think we have the answer:

He drives a red 355 in Atlanta like a mad Turk...
:-)

Seriously, it'd be cool to know where he is hanging out. Personally I'm just happy knowing that all the big wigs are now on 'my' continent. Somewhere out there.

Just curious if anyone knew where he stays while he is waiting for the US Grand Prix. I think I remember hearing that he usually stays at a private ranch in Texas. I'd love to catch him at a red light.:-)
