Rob, you got an excellent point there. I don't quite understand it either, unless it is purely $$$, which would be a sad statement about JPM.

Mc Laren is the better package and he faces though competition in either camp. Probably even thougher with Kimi than with Ralf. So I don't quite get it.

The main point that does not make sense here is the fact that the Williams BMW is perhaps the strongest total package in F1 right now. A driver would have to be stupid or plain greedy to want to jump to another team. McClaren was strong at the start of the season but have seemed to fall apart as of late other than Kimis strong finish at Indy. Aslo McClaren's new car never made it to the track. I see McClaren falling behing next year since they have not had a chance to try out all of the new concepts on the MP4/18 under race conditions. They have done a great job with last years car this season but that has more than likely hurt the team.

Williams on the other hand was not that strong to begin with. found the problems with the car corrected it and then became the care to have. A team that has a major breakthrough durring a season carries that momentum forward for the next year. Ferrari at the last couple of races even though they have won, I would not say that they made major improvements just a few small ones that have allowed MS to claw back to the front.

If i was in JPM shoes i would stay put at williams.

Contracts in F1 mean nothing when $$$'s are in play.

Let us see what happens in 2 weeks.

Juan Pablo Montoya's not going anywhere in 2004 because he's under contract.

A good friend in Germany called me yesterday and told me that all the major papers were running the story.

The denials are standard operating procedure in F1
After the Japanese F1 last race the truth will come out, whatever it is.

This also goes hand in hand with all of the other rumors regarding F1 Drivers. Namely, Webber -> Williams Montoya -> Mclaren DC -> Jag.

But, they are what they are, and that is rumors.

OK, here's what I found...

Merc Deny Paying Williams For Montoya
03/10/03
Mercedes have denied reports that they are willing to pay Williams 25 million dollars in order to get Juan Pablo Montoya out of his Williams contract for 2004, and into the McLaren-Mercedes F1 car.

Although McLaren team boss Ron Dennis has already stated that Kimi Raikkonen and David Coulthard will be his two drivers for next season, rumours regarding Montoya's future continue to run rife.

The latest, though, which were fuelled by German daily Bild stating that a 'reliable source' had informed them that McLaren were willing to paying an indemnity in order to secure Montoya's services before his Williams contract has expired, have been rubbished by Mercedes.

"There's nothing in it. We aren't conducting any negotiations. I can assure you we wouldn't pay an indemnity for anyone," Mercedes' motorsport boss Norbert Haug told SID.

I can not possibly see why Montoya would want to go to Mclaren aside from differences with Frank/his management team at Williams

I saw Coulthard on speedvision and he said he had not intention of retiring. This was just a week ago.
