Actually the teams unanimously voted against the Sunday qualifying change.

All that is left is that these changes must be passed by the "governing body's World Motor Sport Council later this month."

Got it now. But I doubt, that this is going to happen: Bernie himself thinks that Sunday morning is boring and must be changed. True, there is nothing going on till the race starts. So either they cancel the parc ferme rule for Saturday night and let the cars do warm ups on Sunday or qualifying itself might move to Sunday.

Having just been to Indy I have to agree with Bernie. Boring until about noon when they start setting up the grid.

I follow you, but I still much prefer the old system whereby you often had last-minute shoot-outs for pole. This stuff seems too contrived, and the requirement that you not refuel just adds another variable, one that's irrelevent to determining who can do the fastest, balls-out, one-lap run.

Ok I am not very good at explaining things, although the real explanation wasn't very clear either.

BASICALLY, it is the same as this years system, except Friday/Saturday are back to back on Saturday. Also, instead of championship standings determining who qualifies first in the first session, the results of the previous GP decide this.

Basically there are 2 sessions on saturday that are back to back that represent the Friday/Saturday qualifying. Any more clear?

That's one of the most confusing things I've ever heard. I think they should keep this year's format, I like it. It's simple and fair. If the FIA doesn't control themselves F1 is going to become the laughing stock of the Racing world.

Although I'd like to see some minor changes, for example. 1 point given for a pole and a point given for fastest lap in the race. This way some of the lower-end teams can short fuel their car(s)to get them pole and this will gain them a point.

My comment? I don't get it. The part about the fastest time etc.

They are retaining the practice session on Friday that they had this year, and making the Friday qualifying session another practice session. The lowest 6 teams can run 3 cars during this time.

From March-October (the season), teams are allowed 48 private testing days. Outside of the season testing remains unlimited.

On Saturday, there is a new 1.5 hour qualifying session. Previous race results will determine the qualifying order, with the winner qualifying first. He does his normal warmup-lap-cooldown and the fastest time here goes last in the next lap they must do, after everyone has qualified.

So if Michael Wins in the first race, he will qualify first in the second race on Saturday. If he sets the 2nd fastest time in his first lap, he waits until everyone finishes, then until everyone but the person who set the fastest time goes again, then he goes, then the fastest person.

Sunday goes on as normal.

Seems rather interesting, I wonder how it will be in practice.

Any comments?
