I love what they did to the Casio Triangle. I used to think that chicane was WAY too tight. It was little more than a standing-start drag-race to First Curve. Now at least a driver in a lesser car who nails the exit has a fighting chance. |

Kevin, dunno what AFX scale means. Mine will be a regular slot car track, hence 1/32 scale. The size of the track has to fit into my house, so I'm rather limited. Overall length of the track is somewhat of 30 feet. BTW: Did you take that picture in your profile? Looks like from the infield at Indy (after the back straight). |

Speaking of the F2004 here is what I found today: La Gazzetta dello Sport has published an article which gives some clues as to how the F2004 is taking shape and in what areas Ferrari are keen to improve in. With the one engine rule coming into force next season Ferrari will be very keen to maintain their high level of reliability but they will not be wanting to sacrifice performance either. Ross Brawn has spoken about how the F2003-GA may not have been as aggressive as the team could have been so perhaps the F2004 will be more along the lines of the F2002. The report suggests that Ferrari will be taking ideas from the Williams team and reduced the wheelbase to be even shorter than it currently is. The Ferrari engineers are said to be impressed with the way the Williams works and will be following their lead in this area. To shorten the wheelbase further it is expected that the fuel tank capacity will be reduced, Ferrari are willing to reduce the capacity in light of the new qualifying rules which have generally added an extra pit stop to each race. The article also suggests that Renault's aerodynamic solutions especially on the front of their car will be followed by Ferrari as seen by the front wing endplates on the F2003-GA which appear to be inspired by those seen on the Renault chassis. Ferrari will be looking in 2004 to form a much stronger partnership with the Sauber team who will once again be using Ferrari engines. This time round though Sauber will benefit from 2004 spec engines and also the new gearbox. It is also suggested that Sauber could well run a whole Ferrari chassis which is now possible under the new rules allowing teams to buy chassis?s from other teams. Sauber will also be asked expected to work more closely with Bridgestone in the fight with Michelin. Ferrari are expected to get use of Sauber?s new wind tunnel in exchange for giving the Swiss based team up to date engines and technical advice. Also, Andreas: what scale will your Fiorano track be? I may build a replica of the Watkins Glen track circa 1980. AFX scale.................... |

PSK, two stories about new cars: - Sauber will continue to use the Ferrari engine next year, but this time with the Ferrari gearbox. Also next year the new rules stipulate, that your engine has to hold the entire weekend, so Sauber will not get this year's engine but the roughly the same as is in the Ferrari. So in essence you'll have 4 "Ferraris" on the grid. - Sauber will get its new wind tunnel (state of the art) Q1/04. So they're delaying the design of the car itself. That's another reason why the opted for the first time not to build their own gearbox to save time and focus on the car. - Ferrari has already started work on the new car as I know from a good source. But that's not really shocking news, any good team has started that work probably months ago. |

Boy, I'm glad to hear that other folks will also have withdrawls during the "off season". I think I'll have to drown it with a trip to Italy & see the factory.... ;-) |

Yes the off season is very frustrating. Drives my wife nuts ... . Guess I'll have to get into the garage and put some descent time into my GTV restoration! Has anybody heard any information on Ferraris 2004 car ... or any other team? Pete |

I know, 4 months is painful. Maybe we should start a thread like "F1 things to do until F1 returns". On my list: - Finish own championship season on the sim - Build a Fiorano slot car track - Organize F1 video collection 4 months? Yikes, not enough time for all this!!!

This has been a very interesting season. It has never been boring like some years. The last race means something. Rats, the last race. Now I have to wait about 4 months before it starts again. |

I agree Bart. I think there is a good chance that one or the other team will put two drivers on the podium. I think both Ferraris have to be within one place of Williams to win it, or better, whatever the order, unless Ferrari takes the win then 2nd car can finish up to 5 spots behind second Williams if Williams takes 2nd (but still in points), or six if Williams is 3rd eh? Kind of complicated for my brain this early in the am. |

A hope Ferrari takes the constructer's cup. Both cars must finish high. |
