Your autographed picture must have been taken in the last year or two of Bonnier's life. Here he is with similar wreath and banner after winning the 1000km of Nurburgring for Chaparral in 1966. Upload

A somewhat decent summary of his career There's even an ounce of Ferrari.

But this - CRIKEY! Joakim's bio is proof of what an WORLDWIDE site can be - information for all F-1 nuts.

Jack,

It's a bit of a mystery. I think this is the 1972 season, and the car is probably a Lola T212 (from the nose). Bonnier ran a sort of unofficial factory team for Lola in the 3-liter championship, and raced T212s, a pair of T280s with Cosworth F1 V8s against the Ferrari 312 PBs, and possibly a T290/292. Bonnier raced two 212s early in the 1972 season.

For several reasons (including the wreath, which is the style used at the ADAC races at the Nurburgring) I think this may be in Germany, but it is NOT the 1000 KMs of the Nurburgring. Bonnier also scored few points that year, and did not use #1 in any of the Manufacturers Championship races. My best guess is that it's a minor race in Germany...but I really don't know. (The one F1 victory Bonnier had was in a BRM, in 1959 as I recall.)

Jack,

Not sure about where without checking Wimpffen's book, but the car is a Lola T290 or T292 (I believe the latter) from Bonnier's team. It was yellow, with a broad white stripe and a thin red stripe down the center. It is quite possibly the same car in which he was killed at LeMans.

Ok, here I am again with my dead dudes (and not even an ounce of Ferrari in it either)...

Hoping somebody can enlighten me on these:

Two photos (autographed) of Joakim Bonnier (1930 - 1972) but unknown (to me) where & when and in case of the race car, which car.

The "victory" photo seems to be showing a German flag.

Bonnier had only one F1 win which was at Zandvoort, Holland so it is not that race.

Anybody?

Thank you in advance!

Jack
