Synthetic oil will maintain better oil pressure when hot because it maintains its viscosity better than dino oils. I use Red Line 15w50 in my BB512i and the pressure always seems fine.

I don't know that the guage isn't accurate. I know it stayed at 85 with the Valvoline 20W50 I had in it. You have to kind of estimate the oil pressure, since the guage is only labeled at 85 (TDC) and 170 with only one hash mark in between. It goes about half way to the hash mark btwn them. As far as at idle, I guess I would worry about excessive engine wear at startup if oil pressure isn't adequate.

Is your gauge accurate?

120 PSI is way to high ... I would have thought and the idle oil pressure is still too high. Most cars after track time have bugger all oil pressure at idle (ie. maybe 30 psi).

I'm no Ferrari mechanic but my engines used to sit on 60psi all races long and never was too interested what they were at idle ... because I was racing :-)

Hey guys, I have an interesting experience. I plan to use my car on the track some, so I went to Mobil 1 15W50 in'91 TR, and find that my oil pressure rises to over 120 PSI at 6K+ RPM. It also drops below recommended min of 65 PSI at idle. I am worrried about driving my car outside the recommended range. What are your experiences? I think I will have to drain oil and put lighter weight in for city and heavier for track, but what about these pressures on the track? I find that even running a qt or even two qts low yields the same results.
