Sato finished 5th last year. Not bad at all... Now he needs to learn English... GRINNNNNNN Jack (Who doesn't speak half decent English himself, let alone write it...) |

How many times has Button driven Suzuka versus Sato. I think they call it "home court" advantage. |

Might not be a fair comparison: Sato is EXTREMLY motivated in front of his home crowd, Honda and the contract for next year. Also he knows the track inside out and has done here well previously. Personally I don't want Sato to do well: Sauber's WC place is in danger if he scores too much.

Please read the following as an attempt at humour . I am having an extremely frustrating day at work and FerrariChat is the only sane place at the moment ... I think the fact that it took his bosses 3 years to sack him demonstrates how stupid they really are Pete |

QUOTE: "Lets see his sponsors are actually his bosses, so just like at my job if I go behind my bosses back and call him a dicksh!t or useless ... my boss would not be happy. That is exactly what Jacques does and why he is now unemployed. " If Jacques is now unemployed because of what he said about his boss, his boss must be exceedingly stupid for taking it for at least the last three years. I'd suspect he's out of a job because he didn't see his chances at competing with the top three as getting any better if he stayed at BAR, and BAR can't afford his services anymore. Let's face it. You don't need to have one of the highest paid drivers in your car if it can't finish a race. And if you have all the money you need, why take the embarassment of driving one of the worst cars in the sport.

Hmmm,
quote:Most are owned by their sponsors and we have to listen to their lifeless, boring political-speak. Jacques doesn't let feelings get in the way - he tells it the way he wants to and for that, I will respect and miss him.
Lets see his sponsors are actually his bosses, so just like at my job if I go behind my bosses back and call him a dicksh!t or useless ... my boss would not be happy. That is exactly what Jacques does and why he is now unemployed. According to F1-Live it is Jacques that pulled the plug NOT Sato ... sounds like a case of sour grapes to me. The worst thing you can do is get out of your race car and tell the whole world it is a piece of crap!, you save that for the private team chats, and say to the rest of the world that it is getting better ... with a smile on your face! Does not matter what sport of what job that is how everybody has to play the game. Imagine what my team would say if I go into a management meeting and say that so and so is an idiot and cannot do his job properly ... blah blah blah! Instead if my team f**ks up I f**k up and I take it on the chin ... then I go and talk to my team and we sort it out. Yes Jacques can drive okay (better than say Damon Hill) and he is a thinking driver unlike his very talented father who was just flat out all the time , but personally I could not be a fan because there is not enough of the person to admire ... had the same trouble with Mansell. Another reason I will miss him is because he spoke his mind. There are few F1 drivers who I care to listen to. Most are owned by their sponsors and we have to listen to their lifeless, boring political-speak. Jacques doesn't let feelings get in the way - he tells it the way he wants to and for that, I will respect and miss him. |

Andy true. It did put a smile on my face walking by Indy stadium and seeing his picture out there in huge dimensions stating his win and his F1 championship. He is in very good company of Clark, Fittipaldi and Andretti to name a few. Hopefully JPM can be added to that list eventually... |

Andy that I agree with you. I thought he had the world by the neck at the end of 1997. |

He's made some brilliant decisions and some spectacular blunders in his career. But he has accomplished more than most F1 drivers have, with his Indycar Championship and F1 Championship. Too bad his latter years with sour attitude and a car that can't finish will be what most people remember him for. Salute Jacques |

I think JV could have done better if he had concentrated for more of a qualifying setting for his car this year like his Fluff Boy teammate Button who I don't think will ever win a race or be on the podium. If Jacques had a better attitude towards sponsors and fans he probably could have ended up at a big team again. However he has made his fortune and won some big championships, so lets give the young guys a chance. |

Never forget that A racer is A racer not a PR monkey. It is part of the game now but still... As a racer I will always remember the outside pass on Sheuy, (I still can hear Murry Walker having a near melt down) Clawing that BAR back up into the points more than once only to have it fail him and the heart he showed getting there. Honda has a considerable interest in making the Home Team for Suzuka have a Driver I just hope that JV is given a chance in a competitive piece of metal. Remember how Irvine was "Just as good as Sheuy" when he jumped to Ford/Jag then became a mobile pylon. I still think if the car was willing JV could and Would have made it again. Jim |

Jim, actually at that point it was only speculation, but now Honda flexed its muscle to have their native boy for the Suzuka race. Here some more shots from my archive through the years: 1994 in Milwaukee in CART:
1997 at Interlagos in the Williams:
1998 in Monza in the Ferrari, err red Williams.
2000 in Indianapolis
2001 in Indy
Au revoir Jacques! |

I thought it was clear before the USGP that it was JV's last. Up in smoke, but able to walk away from the car...my definition of a successful racing career! |

I wasn't much of a JV fan, but I always hate to see a former champ leave. But such is life. JV really has only himself to blame. Mediocre performance, mediocre results and a very bad attitude towards sponsors. That's why nobody wants to pick him up. You guys heard probably the story about Monaco this year? Some VIP event and JV was supposed to show, but decided not to and the team had to helicopter in Jenson Button. That scares away future investors. Anyway, nuff negative stuff said. How about if we give JV a proper send off and post some cool pix from him over the years? Kinda like Jack started when Gilles' birthday was up. |

Cool deal now BAR will have 2 drivers that are motivated to race hard to the finish. Adios JV!! Dont let the door hit you on the way out. |

Well the sad stae of affairs for Villeneuve and BAR has ended with JV deciding to pull out of the race and allow his 2004 replacement Sato to take his seat. I am glad I was at Jacques last F1 race (maybe) at Indy this year. In my opinion a good decision by Jacques but I must say I will miss him this weekend. Salut Jacques... |
