Don't laugh? Jon, that's AWESOME! My buddies used to laugh at the Neon's, and I'd say "Hey, at least they're doing it!" I've been thinking a lot lately about getting something like this. A full-on racing sedan, but not for crazy money. What are some of the good market resources?

Well I just joined the RICER CROWD. Read below....

As most of you know I have been toying with the idea of doing some endurance racing at the SCCA level. My teammate and I started looking at inexpensive racecars that we could run in several 12 hour and 24 hour races.

We came to an agreement that we would pay no more than 10-12K total to either build or buy a race ready car to run in some enduroes (car will then be sold).

We had it down to a 944, E30 325is, and a few other cars. Ultimately we decided against building one, as this would cost more.

We ended up purchasing GASP.

A HONDA.well technically a highline Honda.namely an Acura.

We purchased Will Nonnamkers Grand Am Cup Championship winning car this past weekend.

Its a GSII Grand Am Cup Class Integra with a 1.8 LS motor. Car comes with upgraded brakes, coil over race suspension and a few other neat goodies. The car garnered 24 podiums, 8 wins, 7 poles, and 10 fastest laps. It was last raced at Mont Tremblanc by Speed World Challenge racer Mike Fitzgerald.

We will be installing a Japanese spec JDM Vtech Type R motor with about 220 hp. The car currently weighs about 2350 dry weight. We will also be installing a PI data acquisition system for data logging.

While its no Challenge car it will be faster than M5 Club racer and with a hp/weight ratio near 10 should by quite quick.

And the best news is:

WE GOT THE CAR AND A SEASONS WORTH OF SPARES FOR

10Kaint Honda great!!!

We will campaign the car in SCCA ITS class until the new motor goes in and hope to have the car ready for the annual 12 Hours at the Point (Summit Point) in June of next year. We will also run a pair of races at Moroso next year, possibly a 12 hour race and a 24 hour race.

There is some talk among us, that if we got sponsorship we may consider running it in the 24 Hours at the Nurburgring in 2005 in their lowest class.

Anyway, its not a Challenge car but it ought to be fun.

Regards,
