From experience with women racecar drivers such as Divina Galicia, Lynne St. James and also coaching girls soccer, the female gender are much less distracted, they get their teeth set and go at it 100%. You won't find any "playboy" attitudes. Also the Indycar set here are very happy with the abilities of all the female engineers involved. The history may not reflect the achievements because of the small percentage of female participants, but every one that tries gets my support. JM2c.

Woops, Typo. I meant Milka Duno, not Duna. Sorry Milka.

Well, I have an interesting story. I bought my 98 355 Challenge car from Milka Duna. She is the first woman ever to win a Ferrari Challenge Race (Road Atlanta, 2000). She also has degrees in Engineering. Nika, I thought you would like this.

Here are some photos including the two cars Milka is driving now.

Well I'm sorry Danny - sorry to hear your knuckles dragging on the ground. I'm not a feminist. My post has nothing to do with feminism - I am 110% woman - no tattoo or brush cut hair.

What I do believe is women are equal behind the wheel of a race car and in technical(engineering) motorsports jobs. The ONLY difference I've heard - is that women tend to be easier on machinery - smoother on a course as drivers - but as it is known there are ALWAYS exceptions to any rule.....there are many theories out there.

Maybe one day when we have gender equality amongst the series we can see which sex is the better racer - but for now - I'm glad there is some recognition that the door is opening to young women everywhere to break boundaries and go into fields that THEY want to without prejudice.

I have yet to cut off any males' genitalia - I'll leave that to Lorena Bobbitt.

Here's a case study I did myself. Over the past 19 years I have observed numerous girls and young women. In the last 5 or so years I have paid a lot more attention to girls and therefore spent a lot more time with them. I have come to this astounding conclusion. Girls are uncoordinated. Coordination is a trait that is often looked highly upon when you're a pilot or race car driver. I don't care how many G's you can pull, if you can't catch a baseball there is no hope for you really racing a car.
They used to talk about how women are one day going to surpass men in running track because they have greater endurance capabilities based on their needs in going through child birth. Alright, well then why is every women's Olympic record comparable to men's HighSchool records?
Another point. The US military recently was pressured into having both men and women train together after years of separate training. The result: women injuries went up 42%. I guess it's just a coincidence.

THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS. Look at Nika, she's obviously one of them, but she's a very very small minority. But, the average man is more athletic than the average woman. It's not that women are bad or something, they're just different than men and it's stupid to think that they aren't. If a girl wants to race, so be it. I think it'd be damn cool to know a girl that was really into cars.

Sorry all: I think that's bullshit!

Of course there are exceptions to every rule. The majority of males are better at speed than women.

Yes, I am a chauvinist. Women have been trying to cut our balls off for decades with feminist movements. I don't care if a women wants to race or work on cars. Just do not say they deserve to be there without earning it.

To say women have a natural talent for racing... well I stand by the first line.

Oh yeah, he is kissing up! Just kidding! Side note: I once watched one of those Discovery channel documentaries on fighter pilots notes with some medical insight. They claim that women are able to handle a few more g's than men, because most men have a longer separation (distance) between their heart and their brain (perhaps the reason we are not as sensitive as well, ha!). Hence, women can keep the blood flowing easier to prevent blackouts. So when F1 drivers are pulling a few g's on the braking, or on the corners, the women driving past them are just feeling a slight tingling sensation. We are going to have to watch out for that! Perhaps men should start wearing g-suits while racing.

I'm not saying this to kiss up to Nika, but after watching Shauna Marinus on TV and Deb Loth in person I really believe women have some natural abilities over men in car racing. Deb Loth raced for the first time just 1 year ago. She went to a pro driving school and a SCCA school. She now drivers a Viper with Bobby Archer in the SCCA T1 class. After only a few months racing it, she qualified 6th out of 23 cars at the national SCCA runoffs. For those that don't know, the runoffs are supposed to be the best collection of amateur drivers in the world, but in reality about 40% have pro experience and the other 60% are some of the best amateurs in the world.

Most pros are good and make it look easy. When you watch an amateur race you easily see the difference between what makes a good driver and a bad driver. Over 50% of your amateur racers aren't very good just because of a few fundamentals. I would list these as being smooth, driving the line, and hitting your apex. If you can just do these fundamentals consistently lap after lap and turn after turn, then you're in the minority of good drivers. The number one lesson you hear in racing is "you have to slow down to go faster". This is so true in club racing, autocross, or any motorsports racing. That's why I think females have the natural ability to get there quicker. Guys have to learn it against their nature, females already have it.

Just so I don't get flamed from the guys, I think the females have to learn, while the guys have it more naturally to be aggressive in traffic. There are times on the last lap when the person that finishes ahead is the one that had the balls to go door to door and make a move.

However, the smooth driving female has already lapped you and you're just fighting for second place. ;)

Motor racing-Formula One needs more women, says Stewart
LONDON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Former champion Jackie Stewart says Formula One
needs more women -- in engineering and technical areas.
The sport has never been short of attractive young women wandering around the grand prix paddock or holding umbrellas over the drivers, all men, on the starting grid. But there are very few working as engineers in the male-dominated team garages.
Stewart, in remarks made at an awards ceremony and reported by Britain's Motorsport News weekly on Wednesday, said engineering needed to shed its
image of being a ``rather chauvinistic activity.'' ``(McLaren technical director) Adrian Newey commands a four-million-pound($5.71-million) salary and there is no reason why the next generation of
Adrian Neweys can't be women,'' the triple world champion said.
Stewart said he knew of at least five women engineers in American motorsport who could successfully make the transition to the world of Formula One.
``In the United States there is a great interest among women to come into the engineering environment. They are doing it and doing it well,'' said the Scot.
