Who is this guy looking to buy a 360C ? I just happen to have one for sale, brand new, very little track time, less than 100 miles, slight rub on the wall but all OK now. anyone know how to get a hold of him and if he is still looking for a car? |

Well, rumor was he was offering to buy the car after the race for a substantial premium as he was in the points chase and this was the next to last race of the season. Jon

"One racer crashed his primary car in practice, crashed the backup in qualifying and then went hunting to borrow a B' group 360C. " Based on his record i would never lend him my car! |

Tim, Thanks for the heads up. I am a bit familiar with Viperdays having been a spectator at one such event at Watkins Glen a year ago. Some of the modified Vipers in the faster run groups were downright scarry. Geez, if only we had an upgrade market like that for Ferrari's. Then again probably good we don't as I would be flat broke. Can you say "Twin Turbo" F355 with 600+ hp and full carbon fiber body. Hey Chuck how's your racing season going? Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23

Hi Chuck and Jon: I have spoken to you Chuck on the Viper board awhile back about the viper I put together for Viper days. I ran it my first time at mid-ohio, red GTS with ripped flag on the side. Jon: we have spoken about my 360C on a couple occasions. the viper days is a fun event and very reasonably priced. I talked with Courtney which organizes the event with her Dad Skip and I was cleared to run my 360c. no big deal, just asked if I could and they were MORE than excited to have a Ferrari run with them. very very well organized events seem to stay on schedule barring any uncontrolable circumstances. you should try it. check out the website, viperdays.com |

That's a wild looking Ferrari Jon. Looks like it's in great shape. Probably a little out of my price range. I know Viper Days would love to have Ferraris entered. They limit the number of cars to 64 and Vipers get first dibs, but there's always a few Vettes, Porsches, BMWs. It's very affordable and I'm sure there are SOME Ferrari owners that would like to partake in some affordable road racing. It's also very safe and controlled. Street classes run under "school rules" i.e. passing zones and point bys. Wheel to wheel class is all out racing and the talent level is across the board. Bobby Archer (pro driver) started third and came in second in Iowa. Lots of fun to watch. There were 7,000 spectators for both days. Three days, lots of track time, cost about $700 and it includes lunches, one dinner and lots of bottled water. I race in the street classes and it cost between 2K and 3K for the weekend. Not bad. It would be great to see that Challenge car there sometime. Disclaimer: In no way am I attempting to take cars away from The Ferrari Challenge Series or any other Ferrari racing venues that I am unaware of. I just happen to like Ferraris and would like to see them on the track. |

Chuck, I scanned your website. Looks like you have some nice Vipers. I was unaware that Ferrari's could run in the Viper Days races. Interesting proposition! I knew that Corvettes were running with you guys. The Challenge Series has become extremely expensive in the past couple of years. The last race I attended at Watkins Glen in 2001 had some people showing up with back up cars. One racer crashed his primary car in practice, crashed the backup in qualifying and then went hunting to borrow a B' group 360 C. The first few guys on the grid (top 5) have near professional talent, but there is no middle gound as the next 10-15 have literally no talent. You can see it in the lap times. At the Glen the fastest 360's were running right around 2:00 minutes (first four cars) but then the lap times dropped to 2:08's, 2:09's and a bunch with 2:13+'s. Click on my screen name and you will see pictures of my Challenge car. It will be for sale at the end of this years track season. If you are interested email me. The car was converted in 2000 to compete in the 2001 series, but has never been raced. Regards, Jon P. Kofod

Jon, thanks for the info. I heard that it was very expensive but I couldn't find any info. It doesn't sound anything like Viper Days. Too bad, but I guess that's the market. I met a several folks with Challenge cars that they purchased at a reasonable price, under 100K. Maybe I'll get a used Challenge car and race it in Viper Days. |

Chuck, I am not sure what it cost to run Viper Days but I can guarantee you it's much more to run in the Challenge Series. My car was set up for the 2001 Challenge Series but I was unable to run for a variety of reasons, one of them being that I had only enough money to run 2-3 races and Ferrari North America changed it's policy of previous years and required payment for all 8 races. These are last years (2001) prices so they may charge more this year. 1) 8 races at $3,500 each to FNA (total $28,000) 2) Authorized Dealer Fee ($8000 per race weekend) 3) Additional money to be competitive 100-150K Each dealer has it's own fee, The fee I quoted you was from Ferrari of Washington DC. Most charge between 7-9K per race. And in case you are wondering, you cannot do the prep work and transportation yourself. Bottom line is that you are going to spend 80-90K for a season at a minimum and this doesn't include the cost of the car or any damage (THERE WILL BE DAMAGE!!). Double that number if you want to run at the front. Also figure in another 2-3K per weekend if you want damage insurance. Hope this helps! Regards, Jon P. Kofod 1995 F355 Challenge #23 |

Please don't reply with "If you have to ask..." How much are the entry fees? I race in Viper Days and I assume it's much like that - two-three days and different run groups for 30 minute sessions? |
