LOL Byron, youd never get rid of the 348 would you?

Well it wasn't a ferrari but just as rare. While on a school bus on a way to a performance we passed a gorgeous Black Porsche 914-6.

sorry!... couldn't resist!!! No, that WASN'T me, Jordan (I'm up in SF right now)... but I'm surprised I've never seen that one before... there's a beautiful yellow F360 Modena near my house as well... I haven't seen it in some time, but have seen it cruising around from time to time.

Also, not so cal, but spotted 2 456's in one day late last week in the bay area..silver and dark blue... now that doesn't happen everyday!

OHHH! Gorgeous red 355 spider today pulling out of a neighborhood off of Alton in Irvine...right next to Byron's neighborhood. As soon as I saw it (it was stopped at a stoplight) a truck pulled up next to it and blocked my view.

Haha, thanks Wayne for pointing that out. I realized earlier this month, but had pretty much forgotten.
A day to celebrate. Happy one year Ferrarichat to me!
Seriously though (now for the sentimental stuff), can't believe its been a year, whew! But, at the same time it feels like so much longer. I never imagined learning and knowing so much from here when I posted my first time...who knew? And thanks to you guys and F-chat and of course the genious of Rob, I'm proud to say that somehow this obsession has built into something bigger than I could have ever imagined. Look forward to many more great years of Ferrari enthusiasm. Thanks all. And hopefully one of these days I can arrange to join you guys on an outing.

I was driving south on the San Diego Freeway in Long Beach around 3:00 p.m. today. I passed a flat bed tow truck. Yipes. There was a beautful blue Lambo Diablo on it. Rats. The front end was hurt real bad, the windshield looks as if a head had hit it, and the rear end was crunched.

Sad. Very sad.

I was eating Lunch today at BJ's in Irvine. While looking out hte window next to me I saw a dark Mondial T. I think it was black but the sun was in my eyes so I cant point out the color. It circled the parking lot 5 times and after I finished my Lasagna I went out to look for it but couldnt find it. Must have given up on the parking :-)

Was that anyone here?

Again, sorry I don't post all my sitings, I get lazy, but I'll try to make a better effort in the future.

Today, Black/Black F355 spider (top up) on 190th (Torrance/Redondo Beach).
Did see another S7 last week, this time it was moving on the 405N near Crenshaw exit. Though it was on a flatbead this time, DOH! Maybe next time it'll actually be driving, third time's a charm.

greg... I'm not sure if it's every 500ft... haha... but they're out there! Let us know when exactly you're coming out here and maybe some of us can meet up.

Nick, if you want to stay near the beach and within reason of cost, SD is a great area. I might even recommend Costa Mesa or Redondo Beach. Further inland, there are great cities like Laguna Niguel, Foothill Ranch, and Mission Viejo. I live in Irvine, but it doesn't seem like real estate prices are all that reasonable here nowadays. There are plenty of people in so cal who deal with real estate... so if you post a thread on it, I'm sure you'll get some replies.

Hi guys, just sneaking in from the midwest....this is just absolutely not fair, I'm stunned! At first I thought you guys were kidding about seeing all these cars. It doesn't help that everyone here stores their cars for 6 months of the year, but even then -- I'll be lucky to see a couple Ferrari's per summer! This is simply unfair...no other way to describe it. :-( I'm working my butt off to get out of this colddddd area...I just can't take winter anymore. Sorry for OT'ing on this post, but can someone recommend a good starter town in southern CA?? (~200-300k house) San Diego area preferred. I'm sure there are some real-estate guys in here.... (mail [email protected])

Now, back to posting your traveling car show spottings...love reading about them.

The 355f1 is a stunning car. It's engine is nothing to this side of a f-1 car. I would recommend the 6 speed however. I have many local drives and I will e-mail you the newsletter I send out updating the drives. Again, welcome and I hope to see you and your car soon!!!

Rude awakwening to Ferrari Ownership!!!

Hello all,

I am relatively new to Ferrari ownership as i purchased a NORWOOD 308QV in August of 02. I love the car and it is faster than anything street legal car that i know of, but......it is has been a nightmare so far!! I had the fuel injection replaced with a Haltech E-6K programmable unit and MECH TECH in Escondido made the car too lean and i subsequently dropped two cylinders after 90 miles on a 1100 mile engine!!!
That was enough to make me sick. I replaced all the cylinders while I had the engine out and put in an air/water intercooler. I hope i can drive trouble free for more than 90 miles, We shall see?

I love my Ferrari and going to buy another, How does the 355F1 compare to other Ferraris?

Stop him and invite him on one of our drives.

That gives me an idea. I wonder if a flyer about Ferrarichat and our drives could be made up and then when one of us sees a new Ferrari we could give it to the driver or put it on the windshield. Maybe we could get some more participants that way.

Matt, a brief version of your newsletter would be perfect with some contact info. Not trying to volunteer you. Is there anyone else out there with some literary and creative talent?

What do others think of this idea?

Sunday I went out to Buttonwillow Raceway to watch the regional go-kart championship (if you think Ferrari owners spend a lot of money - you should see the setup these Kart teams have).

At the same time as the kart races, the main track was being used by a group of sportscars. The first class I watched had a red 360 modena that screamed along the straightaways. It competed against 1 NSX, 4 porsches, 1 BMW, 3 Vettes and a handfull of other makes. In the second race was a silver 360 Spyder, that took it easy around the course. In addition there was a silver 355 berlinetta in the pits that had raced earlier. (sorry not pics)

Okay, I've got one for you. Not exactly a "spotting." More like an "indirect spotting," actually. Anyway, yesterday I get a call from a friend of mine (who works at my old dealership in Studio City) and he tells me this story:

"This customer comes in to resign some docs but the original F&I guy's not there so I end up helping him. Anyway, the guy's in a big hurry and tells me he drives a flatbed towtruck that he's left parked right in the middle of the street because he was in too big a hurry to pull into customer parking. 'Besides,' he says 'Nick Cage's Ferrari is sitting on the back of it.'

"Wow. Sounds cool to me so, when I finish his paperwork, I follow him outside to check out the Ferrari. Then I get out there and see a triple black 348 Spider ... only it's totaled!

"So I ask him, 'What happened?'

"'Don't know,' he says. 'A funny thing, though. I went to pick it up at his house and this guy comes running out. Kinda' looks like Nick Cage but it's not. Maybe his brother or something. Anyway, this guy comes out and he wants to get something out of the car but the doors won't open so he tries prying the top open but he wasn't having any luck with that either. Then this guy grabs a rock and smashes the window, reaches in, pulls something out and shoves it in his pocket! Damnedest thing. Don't know what that was but he must've thought it was pretty important!'

"Can you believe that?" my friend asks me? And what's my response?

"Did you get the serial number?"

Even though the traffic on the 405 sucks, I love it--you're bound to see an F-car always. How did the Enzo look on the road Matt? Quite a presence it might have had I'm sure.
A red 348 spider top down on La Cienega tonight, at first I thought it might have been someone here, but I'm not sure anymore. Anyone?
Saw a silver Saleen S7 though, first I've seen on the road, or kinda, it was at one of the valets on Sunset. Looked like they were shooting a commercial across the street.
Sorry I haven't been posting all my sightings recently, but I'm lazy. Take care.

Tambi w/h the Tubi? Matt mentioned you had one. If so, I hope if I can find a co-pilot spot and a chance to hear your 355 in person.

NON-Ferrari: A customer just pulled up in a blue Lotus Esprit ('90s model) and is looking at a 350Z on our showroom .

Sorry about the non-Fcar spot, but I'm a little bored.

GREAT day today...even though it was very cloudy and overcast, and a monday. I saw so many cars i cant remember them all but here we go :-)

2 Silver 360 spyders
1 blue 400 *GORGEOUS!!!*
1 blue 355B
1 yellow 355 spyder
the usual host of 911 turbos and boxsters
2 Porsche 356
1 Porsche 550 WOW!
lots of rolls royces and bentleys

That was all within about a 10 minute time span, then I was stuck inside the dealership doing paperwork with my back to the window looking at PCH. So Im sure I missed more cool cars while inside...Gotta love newport beach :-)

L. Wayne,
Sounds good, however I am at school (USC) during the week and usually busy with one thing or another. I do occasionaly come home on the weekends, but I think they're not open on the weekends, so I'm not sure if we could conveniently work something out. Nevertheless, if you do make a plan to come down, let me know and we'll see how it works out.

Saw a dark red 400/365?, silver 355 spyder today and a gorgeous 328GTS on PCH while down there car shopping :-) Along with a good share of Rolls and bentleys.

Also, I saw a string of about 50 Mitsubishi 3000GTs...I dont really like the cars that much, but I figure it was some sort of club meet. Its pretty rare for that many of them to be so close to each other.

Not that it's important, but I know which discussion you're referring to. I was talking to JRV, who is in Texas, and I referred to Tillack's being "in my backyard," simply meaning that they were here in the L.A. area.

Anyway, since I'm planning to visit anyway, maybe we could set up a time to meet down there.

Eric, I actually don't remember posting that. Anyway, I live in Encino, which is neither very close to, nor very far from Redondo Beach (approx 30 mins up the 405fwy) but I guess it's all relative to whom I was addressing and where that individual lived. Anyway, I've been meaning to schedule some time to drop by and see what Steve's got cooking down there.

L. Wayne, I was checking through some topics in the archives today and noticed that you once said that you're very close to Tillacks in RB. How close might you be, because I'm no more than a few blocks away--I could drive there in under a minute.

I don't want to mention names on this board but he worked at a MB Dealership in orange county, then went to a MB dealership on the westside, adn then I believe back to a MB dealership in Orange County. I beleive he would have sold the vehicle between June and November 2001

Jordan: It wasn't me. As for the silver car, I just did a quick web search for a pic of an RSK and grabbed this one. I think Matt is correct that it's a fake.

Jean-Louis: It is blue with a tan interior. It is a Carrera with the full aero kit. I work at a car dealership. Scary. Who was this guy?

Okay, this isn't Ferrari related, but interesting nonetheless. On my way to work this morning (5 FWY northbound, though the Santa Clarita Valley) I passed a convoy of something like 20-25 Hummers, a combo of originals and H2s. Must've been the local Hummer Club or something.

Today was another good day. Another all day rehearsal in Long Beach and I took my lunch break with a few friends. We went down twoards the ocean to a really fancy area of town...I dont know Long Beach that well so I dont know where we were, but it was very upper class. I saw a 355 spyder, a few rolls royces, a few NSX's, LOTS AND LOTS of Porsches ranging from the 356, to the hundreds of Boxsters, to some pretty nice looking 930s and 911 turbos. Along with the regular Vettes, hundreds of Z3's and Thunderbirds, I saw a nice 64' Corvette convertible. It looked like it was in great condition!

Maybe if I make it up to Beverly Hills I can get some better sightings like the ones you guys see!

His Ferrari was gorgeous though...It saddened me to see it stuck in stop and go traffic!

Yesturday I had a crazy day for spotting. I was driving to a rehearsal in Long Beach and I saw a great looking grey mondial going on the 405 South...a few cars behind was an older Rolls Royce.

On the way home from the rehearsal in the evening, I saw 34 *i counted* Z3's all within my 25 minute drive :-) Most going on the 405 North. I also saw a similar Rolls stalled in the carpool lane on the other side of the freeway.

A day before that I was in Long Beach at the shop I get my bass repaired at, and on the garden grove freeway I spotted a new NSX next to a blueish 355 spyder...some young punk looking guy driving it.

The best though, on thursday I was at the gym and I was walking out of the parking lot to the front door. Being under construction, the sidewalks were closed so I was walking in the road...A brand spanking new red NSX almost ran over me. Some old guy driving it and not looking where he was going. I thought about stepping in front of him to get some money...but I figured thats not very moral :-) Just jk...

It looked like a full-on race car and definitely did not look street legal. I'm surprised cops weren't pulling him over just to check.

Anyway, it was going north on Balboa Blvd in Encino and then entered the 101 north. I was coming from the opposite direction and waited at the light while it turned left in front of me to enter the fwy so I got a real good look at it.

Wow, L. Wayne, where'd you see it? Not an everyday sighting. Back in September I saw my first, a yellow one, parked near the entryway to the Palos Verdes Concours, and then of course at the L.A. Auto Show earlier this month. I'm sure it stood out quite a bit, like you said, next to the Hondas and Bimmers and such...
One never really gets the full effect till you see it on the road, esp. compared to "everyday" cars.

Ok, so it's not a Ferrari, but I just saw a Mosler driving on the street for the first time. It looks so out of place along side all of the Hondas and Bimmers and such. For those who aren't familiar, here's a pic, though the one I saw was red.

Byron, unfortunately that was not me last night. Since our excursion to the LA Auto Show I have only driven the Ferrari once- a little drive to Malibu. I do go down to the garrage every once and a while and take a look at it. They have it parked in front of another 348 spider that is red. Its a good sight to see. I might do a drive on Saturday, and then off for servicing next week.

Matt I am so sorry to hear what happened. Is the shop in Anaheim going to help you out with some of the expenses?

These are my most common daily sightings:
There are usually at least a couple of 360's parked in front of the cafe's west of Mel's Diner on Sunset (Sunset Plaza).

Also on my street there is a titanium 360, a black testarossa and a white 348.

Of course you can also see several on the street's of Rodeo & Beverly or in valet area of Beverly center.

Let's see, also a beautiful black F360 spider on the 405 near el segundo, a red 550M on sunset blvd near Cafe Med, and a few F355's cruising around the Beverly Hills area today.

What a day!

Yellow 246 GTS (top down) today on Figueroa (between Exposition and Jefferson) right in front of USC (I'm a student there).

Also, last Friday (same day I went to the Peterson Museum, highly recommend going) on La Brea near intersection of Wilshire, saw a light metallic blue/grey/silverish late-50s car, ashamed I'm not sure what though. Looked a whole lot like a 250 TdF--it was a berlinetta, covered headlights, the sail-vents aft the front wheel wells. But, I didn't instantly think TdF though, so might have been another 250, though I've searched and searched and not sure what though. Any ideas, maybe?

By the way, the "Million Dollar Cars" exhibit at the Museum was awsome--not sure how long it'll be there, so go now and see it. Lot's of other interesting cars also. As far as Ferraris...360 spider, F50, and Bruce Meyer's Testa Rossa, as featured in "Forza."

I live in Irvine - there's a yellow 360 Modena in my community (Oak Creek). Does that belong to any F-Chatters?

Yellow 360 Spider top down on Crenshaw near PCH (by the Torrance Crossroads shopping plaza). And last night a dark blue 550 was parked in front of some place (can't remember where exactly) on the Sunset strip, and also a black Diablo Roadster VT (top closed) parked outside another place, beauty.

Most recent (last Friday 15th) was a rosso corsa 328 GTS with chrome 5 split-spoke rims of larger diameter (maybe 18s, though not sure what make) driving south on Hawthorne Blvd. in Torrance/Redondo Beach. Looked nice, on a hot day like it was.
