I grew up about 2 blocks away from the cheesecake in Redondo Beach- I agree it is a beautiful place with great food. NEVER VALET YOUR CARS THERE- I have seen how the valet's drive-trust me! However, they will let you park your own car, you just need to pay the valet price.

Speaking of Cheesecake, which I love by the way, have any of you been to the location in Redondo Beach? I'm sure Gene has. I'm willing to bet that it is the best Cheesecake location around. Large restaurant, classy environment, and right on the ocean-I love it. The parking is pretty fantastic as well (valet-but if you show up in something special, im sure they'll understand.) I frequently order the spicy cashew chicken, jumbalaya, jamaican shrimp, cajun chicken littles, or the seared tuna--all excellent choices. Definately recommend.

My first contribution on this post:

Fritto Misto in Santa Monica (near 6th/Colorado) - friendly atmosphere, Italian food, pick your own pastas, near 3rd Street, only drawback is small parking lot, but plenty of parking on street

Talay Thai Hole-in-the-wall Thai place on Santa Monica Blvd (near Corinth), good authentic food, very inexpensive (local UCLA favorite), small parking lot in the back

Chart House Marina Del Rey, on Admiralty Way, excellent seafood, great prime rib, the best squaw bread in town, plenty of parking (optional valet...so taboo!), great location

I'll think of more... I'm sure of it. :-)

Buon Apetit!

On another note, some restaurants around USC that I frequent with friends are El Cholo (on Western) and McCormick & Schmick's downtown. Though there not really favorites, they still have good eats.

El Cholo, from what I understand, is fairly well-known to Angelinos, so some of you might have been. Good Mexican food (though nothing spectacularly different) at a reasonable price, nice atmosphere, and of course pretty good chips n salsa as any Mexican restaurant should have.
I wouldn't recommend taking an F-car there though, for the parking is pretty shab and it's not really in the greatest part of town.

McCormick's downtown has a very nice atmosphere. Being located in the heart of the highrises (at the bottom floor of the 1st Interstate building--the tall white one) definately adds to its aura. As was mentioned earlier, $1 happy hour is fantastic. There's valet sometimes, though you can park under the building--I've seen nice cars around before, but not sure if an F-car is a good idea here either.

Matt, relating to one of your posts earlier on...as soon as this car gets done, we're definately coming on some drives, and I'm sure my dad would enjoy them as well. If he's not up to it though, I'll just grab the car and get my brother or a friend and tear up the roads with you guys. I would ask if anyone needs a co-pilot for the upcoming events, but I should probably be studying, that is if I'm not skiing up in Big Bear. Wish you guys much luck though, and be safe.

Geoffrys used to be the best restaurant. I used to love to dine at the crows nest table- to bad they had to take it down. However the last two times I was really unimpressed with the food. I have not been there in the last three years, beacuse of two ad service and food experiences. Have you guys been there recently and the food was good? I love the view and am dying to go back to give them a second chance. I will park on the street outside of course.

JL, I just returned from "Ruthy's." Ahhhhhhh. Stomach like. Stomach very happy. I also think they have the best butter to spread on your bread. Nothing fancy, no herbs, just salted butter that's been whipped at massive speeds for a long period of time and served at room temperature. It's pure fluffy heaven. I hate those frozen little pads you get at the other places that tear your bread to shreds!

Geoffrey's Malibu, Great location, Great Food, a little pricey, but not very Ferrari friendly. Valet only (they usualy let you park it yourself) but a VERY steep driveway to get out onto PCH, I heard some heart stopping scraping noices when I pulled out :-(

Just for fun, here's a list of over-hyped places to avoid:

Worst Italian food: Buca di Beppo (all locations)

Worst sandwiches: Jerry's Famous Deli (all locations)

Worst surf-in-turf: Gladstones (all locations)

And, by the way, the best steak ANYWHERE (and I've tried them all) is Ruth's Chris! And guess where I'll be for dinner tonight? Ruthy!

Oh man! How could I have forgotten to post this...I just want to put in a good word for Baja Fresh. If you have tried it before, then I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't--then you haven't lived.
Its a Mexican food place--kind of the sit-down gourmet type fast food place. Trust me--its no McDonald's and is probably the greatest Mexican food ever. Very high quality, fresh quality meats and veggies. Simply put--it is awsome.
They have a great salsa bar with three wonderful salsas, limes, peppers, etc. With every meal comes an order of chips, so you get chips and salsa like most Mexican restaraunts.
And let me just suggest...get the Burrito Dos Manos! Probably the greatest burrito I've ever had. Choice of chicken or steak (I get steak) black or pinto beans. Mmm mmm. It's big though, so if you normally don't eat big, maybe get someone to share it with. Or better yet, save it for later. But everyone must eat a Dos Manos at least once in there lifetime. Find one near you and go. Your welcome.

By the way, I have absolutely no relation with any aspect at all to Baja Fresh. Just a very satisfied customer

I eat out a lot but usually end up at cheaper places. I just love Olive Garden and Chilis...Not quite Ruth's Chris, but the food isnt that bad :-)

Speaking of Ruth's Chris, there is a nice one in Irvine (at least I think its in Irvine's city limits) that is always great with quality food and service. Usually a share of exotics out on weekends too...

My favorite though, There is a great restraunt in Newport Beach called Las Brisas. Great food and scenery! I love to go there and sit on the balcany overlooking the ocean eating with the fresh ocean-air smell! It's pretty Ferrari friendly as far as safety, but the spaces can be tight. The lunch menu's are pretty cheap but the dinner prices hike up a lot...Good food though...

I might add that I am a bit of a chef myself :-) If you guys all come over with your F-cars, I might cook up a nice Italian meal...and I'm free!

Jean-Louis, standard Rosso Corsa on Tan...technically its my Dad's, but its still under construction. I am not sure if you might have come across some of my other posts, but I mentioned that we're repairing from accident damage. I know, I know...many people have all kinds of opinions on pursuing such a venture, but we did, and it hasn't been easy or cheap. To give you an idea, we easily could have picked up a quality medium-mileage later model for what has been put into this. Hopefully it will be done soon though, and it looks like it will be, so I'll be sure to post picks.

Restaurants. Persoanlly I love Cafe Med. on Sunset and Sunset Plaza. Great place to look at beautiful women, and the cars on the Sunset strip. I am a very picky pasta eater, and they have one of the best pastas I have ever had. Papardelle al telefono. Parking spaces are big in the back, i actually prefer to park along the white strip in the back so there is no chance of getting a door ding.
Eric what color is your car? Is is the deep maroon red?

Ron had a good point to start a new thread for this. So...let's see if this works...

What are some of you guys' favorite restaurants in the L.A. area? Perhaps comment on food type and quality, atmosphere, service, cost and of course location. I enjoy a good restaurant now and then, perhaps this will open up some new options for all of us. Feel free to bring up all varieties--all kinds of food, formal to the most casual hole in the wall burrito places.

And, of course being Ferrarichat, what are the Ferrari friendly places. Are there any that you feel comfortable driving in the F-car to and parking at. Do you use the valet? Would you rather not drive your car to restaraunts? Discuss...
