My wife and I have taken four different tours of the castle and everyone of them has been impressive. I can just imagine that a private tour would be equal or greater. We usually spend 2-3 weekends a year in Cambria - so I will try to make that one of our weekends. I am also going to try and recruit a couple of the other Ferrari owners here in Bakersfield to possibly join you. I will keep you posted.

Marc,

there is a place about 20 miles or so that we can turn around safely.

I will keep that dinning suggestion in mind. I will be doing a pre-run up there at the end of the month

Can you join us on the drive?

Matt - On the morning run prior to going to Hearst Castle, how far up Hwy 1 are you planning on going? Is there anywhere that you can turn around? It has been a very long time since I have driven North of San Simeon, but all I can remember is that the road becomes very narrow without a lot of turnout areas.

If anyone is looking for a casual/family oriented dining, I can strongly recommend the Main Street Grill in the new section of Cambria. They have the best BBQ on the central coast.

Thats a great idea about Forza! What a better way to put the FCC drives on the map! Wouldn't mind seeing some of your cars in Forza too!

Gene

It's looking like a firm Spet 20th and 21st. I am only taking one car. Which every one is running at the time.

Byron and Ron

I was going to get 4 in the event we cannot get a group purchase going. I am all for getting them now though.

I will be going to Monterey as a FOC member to show the boxer per John Cuzzazano's (sp?) request so that will allow me to finalize the hotel and Hearst stuff a month prior.

Concorso Italiano is on August, eh?... hmm... 2 big trips in two months...then there's Bellagio in November... Choices, JL!

Matt, I agree with Ron. Let's settle on a radio and maybe do a group buy somewhere. If you want, I can do a bit more digging to see some additional options. It would be nice to have these sometime in the next month or so so that we can start using them on our drives. I want to also look at some options for hands-free radios, since most of us don't actually have F1 shifters! :-)

For the record - count me in.

May I suggest leaving August out of the date

The Big Concorso Italiano at Carmel is on Aug 15th
over 200 Ferraris represent and several Lambo's included. Which means - drive up north Thursday 14th

(Matty - you have to drive F car one mile - run back - drive the Lambo car past the F car one mile - run back and so on and so on.....)

Early July or late September would be good.

Matt, are you talking about our group buying radios or you being able to borrow them for the trip?

If you are talking about buying, then I think we should talk about moving up the purchase timetable so that they are available for our drives coming up.

If we can settle on a radio, then I would be willing to buy one of them.

Sorry Matt, I was so busy at work today that I forgot about the hotel, again.

I think I remember though. I think it was the Blue Dolphin in Cambria. Sounds like the same kind of a deal that you arranged at the Pines.

I think this will be a lot of fun.

PLans are coming together.

I am looking at $50 per person (kids are about $10). That includes dinner, hearst castle and security for the cars. Rooms are about $70 at the Cambria Pines lodge. It's a really nice hotel in Cambria.

For Guys with Autistic Kids...

I am making arraigments for a Autistic Specialist to join us on the drive to help and settle them. She is a highly regarded teacher in the district who is certified and has clinical work experience.

Matt,
Of course you can count me in to represent the OC community. May, June, July, or August... or all of them... an overnighter would be a splendid idea!

If I could get my parents interested in it *August would be best for us...* We could offer as a support vehicle possibly for the Orange County people. We would bring our van...Nothing for sure yet, my dad is busy at work around then so it might be hard to get the time off.

If not that, maybe they would let me go by myself with the Mustang! :-)

Sounds like a blast though. I love the castle! Only been there once though...Beautiful driving scenery on the way to SLO :-)

Ferrari family drive to Hearst Castle

Hearst Castle offers private tours for groups of 15 or more with the ability to drive up to the Castle itself.

The plan

To meet in three locations to form a caravan of Ferraris (or other makes) to drive up to Hearst Castle

There will be Orange County, Los Angeles County and Ventura County meeting points. There will be stops in Santa Barbara and SLO for gas and snacks

We will be staying overnight in Cambria.

The following morning we will have an early morning Ferrari drive up the coast a bit and then return to the Castle for a tour in the late morning.

There will be support vehicles to transport luggage, strollers, food, and spare parts (they are Ferraris after all)

This is a true family trip to be enjoyed by all.

All car makes are welcome.

I would like to know if August, September or October would be preferred. I will be checking hotels in the area in the next couple of weeks.

Also who could provide a support car coming from Orange County and possibility one from Ventura County. I will provide the car for LA, granted this all depends upon need.

This is an event to be enjoyed by all including kids of all ages. If there is a large need, (after 4 hours in a car, there will be) I can arrange babysitting on the evening so we can all dinner. My grandparents live in Cambria and are open to having the kids over. In addition, my mother-in-law will be there as well to help.

Please forward requests, questions, help, etc. to me.

I am thinking about making this a family deal. Kids and all. My wife can drive our explorer and trailer as a support car. She would carry luggage and the like. I am thinking two caravans. The support cars ( I assume we would need at least 3 or 4)leave 2 hours before us, we meet in along the way for lunch and then we connect again in Cambria. Dinner that night. Early morning f-car drive and then off to the castle.

That would be a nice trip. When I went with my family last Sept, we stayed in Cambria right across the street from the beach. This place offered very nice rooms and the rooms each included two nice dinners including wine at a local restaurant all for about $85 per night.

I don't know the Apple Farm Inn but I can recommend this place (I will have to look it up to remember the name if you are interested)

Any one for a Hurest Castle drive? It would be an overnighter deal. Huerst Castle will allow groups of 15 or more drive up to the castle and have a private tour.

I am thinking a drive up to SLO, stay in the apple farm in, Drive to Huerst Castle on Sunday, do the tour and drive back.

It's about 600 miles round trip.

I am thinking some time toward end of May or early June or even Sept.

Thoughts?
