Spoke to my friend setting up the day. He's been in email talks w/ the shop, and will confirm details, soon ( I hope.) I realize that this is a pretty flacid 'update', but didn't want anyone to think that I had dropped the ball.

Henry, that's what threads are for. Good to have you back. Look forward to more involvement from you, even if it is just here. :-)

Hey Guys,

Sorry I have been M.I.A. Things have been real busy. I'm still trying to get a backyard installed. I just shot Byron a message on Dromo (still not sure if I can make it). Sounds like you guys are all having a good time (even w/o me). I hope to make it to some upcoming stuff.

Sorry to hijack this thread.

I'm interested. If they are open Sundays that would be better for me. If not, I'm sure I'd still be able to make it. Keep me informed

Yes. That would be great, and, I've got to apologize it was very, very rude not to thank you for the ride, and the seat. Thank you! Hope you're not offended. Was good to see you again, man.

I can volunteer to go do the initial tech inspection, since I'm in Irvine... However, my car may be strapped down differently than some of yours.

So...anyone else like to join me? Matt, maybe you and I can go this saturday?

JL-

You do two pulls to get an average reading; ambient temps, rolling diameter, etc. all have an effect on wheel hp. There will not be any tuning that day, since the purpose of this day is just to get a baseline. But, they may make reccomendations, but the shops expertise is in building full blown race cars, and not really the tuning of Ferraris. But the facility (size & quality of dyno), and the cost break are why it's been choosen; then again, there is not much of an aftermarker for Ferrair's, aside from exhaust modifications (and some esoteric ECU upgrade options) I'm unaware of pistons/cams/etc. available; but, anything you can do to make the driveline more efficent will also help; i.e. a lightened flywheel.

I hope your in town, would be nice to compare a few different examples of the same model. But, if you're not around, I could, um, drive it down. hehe.

Hopefully, one or two guys here could do down, and let the techs take a look at tow hook locations/dimensions/etc. in order to be certain of being able to conduct the test. I don't think there will be a problem, but it is best to be sure.

it was nice to meet you, JL. if you're ever in san diego, let me know.

Hubert, If I am in town- I would love to go and either one of those two days look great to me. However, I will not get a chance to go to the shop before hand to test. Please let us know if there is a problem with that?
BTW- Will they tell us how to get more power out of the car and suggest small modifications? What is the reason for having 2 tests done- Excuse my lack of HP Knowledge.

Byron-

Spoke to my friend in greater detail, and the event will have to take place in late April (the 25th or 26th), simply b/c of time constraints on the shops parts. Will keep everyone updated.

Hubert,
Thanks for getting the information for this... how 'bout early April, fellas? I'm thinking 4/5 or 4/12? Otherwise 4/26 may be ok, too.

Sounds like fun. The 26th or the 5th would be the only Saturdays in April that I could do it.

Gene-

Afraid not, that is the weekend of IAS (Import Auto Salon), and Area 51 will be closed that weekend to attend. Looks like it will be closer to the end of April, possibly the 25/26.

Hubert

Where: Area 51 Fabrications in Irvine : http://www.area51fab.com/index.html
What: So. Cal. Dyno Day
How much: $50-60 for two pulls on the dyno, and print out of your hp/torque curve (to frame and display, or to quickly fold and hide.)

Now the issues. Area 51 need about 5 weeks notice, so that pushes us into March, late March. So, if we could all decide on a date that works, we need to do that soon. Also, we need to get about 20 cars together to make this happen. The event will be catered (carne/bbq/etc.), but we need 20 cars to run on the dyno. If you were to walk into Area 51 and wanted two pulls on the dyno, it would be $100. So, this event comes at a savings of close to $50.

However, we need to be sure that the cars can be properly straped down, since it's not everyday you get a gaggle of Ferrari's on a dyno, every precaution is going to be taken. Therefore, it would be good to have some of you drive down and let the techs make sure that the car can be strapped down safely.

Lastly, and for the record, I'm not going to be involved in any money transactions, and am not making any money off this event. I want to set it up that you pay that day, but need 20 people to commit to cover the shops costs (dyno, tech's, catering).

So, let me know what weekend in late March/early April works for the group, and we can start planning. Also, if a few of you could go down and let the shop take a look at your car just to test fit the straps, then let me know as well.

Hubert

PS- Ferrari's of any vintage are welcome (and encouraged to particiapte!), as are, other makes; i.e porsche, lotus, etc. so spread the word.
