Allright, here are my responses to Rob Callahan's list (I hope for my safety that Rob is not related to "Dirty" Harry Callahan, a San Franciscan! , If he is, then I'm outta luck!);
#10 - The rats are the environmentally friendly way of disposing of trash in a major city. Garbage in equals fertilizer out. Point to NY.
#9 - What about your whackos? The Nightstalker richard Ramirez, that ring a bell? How bout the Hillside strangler (Maybe a little more north)? What about all the gang bang driveby shootings in L.A.? Crime rate is about even. No point to either side.
#8 - $500 cab rides? I've never had one. And I had a limo pick me up at JFK airport back in November, and drive me back to Connecticut (an even longer distance). That cost only $200. Point to N.Y. since you were way off on this.
#7 - Yeah Regis does suck. Point to L.A.
But, NY has Howard Stern. LA has Tom Leykus. Both do a great radio show.
#6 - The NY subway does smell, but that is not nearly as bad as the famed LA smog!! Hell, you guys even have a daily smog index!! After the LA smog, the NY subway would smell like a country fresh meadow in Vermont!! Point to NY.
#5 - Yeah, NY can be and has been called the gateway to New Jersey. Point to LA.
#4 - Yes, you do have sidewalk salesman in LA. Not as many as in NY (actually a small fraction of NY!). So, for being deceitful, this point goes to NY.
#3 - Bats do suck (they're actually rats with frickin' wings!), and Batman does suck. But do you not recall that horrible time from the early 80's when California had 'Knight Rider' as their hero? I'll be generous and give you this point, but you must be ashamed of your 'Knight Rider' history. Point to LA...
#2 - True - you don't need any witness protection program like NY mobster rats (i.e. - Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano). Your method of operation is to let all the gang bangers kill each other until there are none left. I see nothing wrong with that. Point to LA.
#1 - We fired King Kong since he was taking a break on 9/11! That could've been his moment to shine, but he was off on a banana break. Anyway, scientist discovered dinosaur remains in San Francisco! And the dinosaur is said to be the first gay dinosaur! Scientists have named him Megasorass!! So, both of us lose this point to shady circumstances.

As far as driving your cars more, that's no contest; YOU WIN!! As for me, I drove my 308 on january 24 to Long Island. And I will be picking up my new (new to me!) 1991 Testarossa sometime this week from Long Island, and driving it to Connecticut. So, maybe you can adopt me as a wanna be Californian enthusiast?? Whuddya say??
Take it easy friends!! from your east coast Californian - Hutch!!

Probably something akin to pneumonia from breathing in too much hot moisture... Of course, i'm probably wrong and hopefully Mr. Glickenhaus or someone else will be along to share the clinical definition...

Hutch, I have to admit, I was in a hurry to make the post and did not give the list the level of thought it really deserved.

I was really just trying to get down to # 1 to tweak DES a bit. You should have seen the list before I edited it. It had DES occupying the spots from about 7 on down.

As to earthquakes, they have caused much much less death and destruction in CA than the ice, snow and cold does on a routine basis in other parts of the country. Give me the slight threat of earthquake damage to the very real every year threat of winter there anytime.

As to the Dodgers, yeah they were a stretch, but nice warm evenings at the stadium watching the girls is pretty cool.

For private reasons, I cannot get used to calling the Angels the "Anaheim" Angels. I was at both Yankee games in Anaheim during the playoffs. I really enjoyed watching them fall apart.

Jay Leno is just a preference, not related to anything Ferrari.

As to the rest of your points, well that is the beauty of opinions.

Come and post here anytime. Your input and comments are welcome.

Ron

Ron - my friend, I feel compelled to correct you in some way here; follow along if you would kindly.
#10 - David Letterman is a FERRARI nut. He supposedly has 17 of them. This is FERRARICHAT. Leno is an all-around car + bike nut (gearhead), and a cool guy.
#9 - Weather - You like earthquakes?? Anyway you're right, snow sucks, and it's snowing today...
#8 Whas up wit uu essay? That is your version of proper English? Sounds like you left coasters speak more Spanglish than English.
#7 - More Ferraris? I don't know about that, and will investigate thoroughly today. Probably not on a per capita basis. (Or something like that.)
#6 - Beaches - Ok, you win on that. I wish they all could be California girls...
#5 - Golf - Take a look at what golf spells backwards. Nothing to win on this.
#4 - Lakers? Call me when Shaq can make 2 free throws consecutively. Also, FYI, remember a great team called the Chicago Bulls? They are closer to New York than L.A. Neither of us can claim this point.
#3- Dodgers? WTF is great about them? They had Piazza, then the Mets got him and still can't win. You lose this point for not saying the Anaheim Angels. Also, go Yankees!!
#2 - Angels - See if they can come close to repeating. Let alone a 3 peat like the Yankees did!!
#1 - No DES - We like him!! He is a necessary evil in this world. And he is keeping us from being demoted further down the F-Chat list, along with yours truly.

Respectfully Submitted!!

Sigh... Can someone teach me how to be a man...? :-)

Bonnie, maybe i could get to know you a little better before you, um... get wet... in the hot tub, i mean... :-)

Ron, with regards to your post in the NY forum- (HEY, EVERYONE, RON POSTED IN THE NY FORUM!)- there was absolutely no offense taken- go read my reply. As to my list- it is completely valid and i'd like to add that you needed to throw in two EXTRA baseball teams just to complete your list; seems like you kinda ran out of things at the end... :-)
