OK I got the car back today. Matt, that's $5 in addition to the Laker bet. The car looks really good. I can't say enough about Premier Autosports and also about Prestige Upholstery in North Hollywood who did the top work. I had aluminum pedals installed to go along with the aluminum shift knob put in a couple of weeks ago. I also had new halogen headlights installed. The top was re-aligned and lubricated, new B pillar moulding was installed, the seats were tightened up, the road rash on the wheels was polished out, they did a paint treatment with clay-bar and did some touch up on the nicks. The car is in great shape now and ready for Sunday. The windshield and other associated parts cost about $2700 and about $700 labor. This was paid by insurance, less the $100 deductible. The other stuff mentioned I paid for and totalled about $2300 for parts and labor. |

Update: no change. I did not speak to Dave today but yesterday afternoon he said it was on target for late tomorrow or more likely Friday. Matt, wanna go down there on Friday? If not, no big deal. I will get a manager from my office to drive me from Burbank down there. That was the plan anyway. I will pick it up sometime in the late morning or early afternoon so that traffic is manageable if it is ready. I will get a ride to work from my partner that morning. If by some chance it available late tomorrow afternoon then I will get the manager to drive me down then and just leave my car at work overnight. |

I actually saw her today, after the last post. I stopped by on the way home. She was in North Hollywood at the upholstery shop. They were doing many of the non-windshield things. They are taking it back to Premier tomorrow and Premier will have the windshield installed and everything else done by Thursday or Friday. It was nice to see it again. I was having withdrawal pains. As to the TR, I may have to wait on that. I will know more later in the week. There is another very interested possible buyer. He arranged for a PPI by Tillack. The car was going there today. |

Here's the update.... I talked to Dave today. The windshield is in and he will have it worked on tomorrow. I do not know if it will be finished tomorrow or Monday. I am having some other stuff done, install aluminum pedals; new foam under bonnett over radiator; clean up some pollen from a tree that the p.o. must have had it under; install Mondial emblem and reaffix the Ferrari emblem so that it is not loose; polish the wheels to eliminate the road rash; examine the undercarraige and suspension, etc; and another guy realign the frame for the top and get it properly lubricated and adjust the latches, etc to ensure that the top works properly. It should be done with all the other stuff about Wednesday or Thursday, definitey in time for the run on Sunday the 6th. |

OK, I dropped the car off today. I should have it back by mid-week next week. The windshield will not be the determining factor, but the other stuff I am having done could take a few days. I told them I had to have it by Friday the 4th. Need if for the drive on the 6th. |

Thanks Sunny, I have to find out today if they are open tomorrow. The other issue is if I am able. I am undergoing a medical procedure today and may not be up to it tomorrow. The easiest way for tomorrow would be to drag my wife along to give me a ride back. If she cannot, I will let you know. During the week it will be much more complicated. Thanks a lot for the offer. |

Matt, actually that is who is doing the work. For reasons I will tell you off the board, I did not want to mention the name for the last couple of days. The hard part is going to be getting the car to them during the week. If they are open this Saturday and I am able I might try to take it to them then. |

Matt, it's starting to look like you are right. Unfortunately I was unable to hook up with them yesterday or today and tomorrow I will be out of pocket and not able to handle this issue. I am not sure if he went ahead and ordered the parts or not. He got the ok from the insurance company but as mentioned we were not able to have a final discussion. |

Thanks Tom. I spoke to Nick. He has nothing in stock now but could possibly get it. I am going to let the body shop handle it though because the insurance company will work with them. They anticipate getting the part in early next week so that I will take my car in. I told them that I have to have it back by the weekend of the 6th for the drive. |

Matt, yeah there was progress today. The adjuster came out to my house today and took pictures. It had to go through the regular claims procedure because it needs specialized glass and someone knowledgeable to install. The insurance company has agreed to let me choose the body shop for repair. I have already made up my mind and they are on the case. Best scenario is one week to get the glass if it is in stock at FNA. If not, then it will take longer to obtain. Then I will bring the car in for the work to be done. Things are moving along. |

When my windshield cracked, the total bill was about $2700.00 Window: $1300, moulding $900.00 balance labor. I asked about why they needed a new moulding, and was told that with Ferrari windshields, there was a problem in taking the window out, and 9 times out of 19 the moulding gets damaged. Sometimes it looks like they aren't damaged, but then they leak. Ferrari of SF recommends that you change the moudling 100% of the time to make sure that the window doesn't leak. Art |

It took them 2 days to install it. They did a great job but I think they could have just glued it in and used the original moulding but what do I know about glass. |

Matt, The reason I ask is, I am in the glass business. Where I live you will get 1 man for 2-3/4 days for $800.00 Labor. I wish I could live here and get those rates! |

Bill, It said FERRARI MARKUP Just kinding. Actually because the car is a 78, the windshield was installed from the factory with this silicon bead. It was not glued in. They also had to cu and install the new moulding. The mouilding from the factory is not cut to size. |

Ron, I am not sure on the Mondial but you should be able to pull the switch up. if not then you may have to remove the console. Another place wouls be where the wire harness from the car connects to the door wiring. It usually in the door jam area. |

They did not have to raise the top. The new lining was for the boot cover. The top needs to be down to use this cover. It's the only thing I can think of. The car was not moved while it was there. I guess it's possible that some stray something hit the windshield or someone rested their weight on the top of the windshield, etc but I think that is pretty far fetched. Of course another possibility was that something hit as I was driving in today or before and finally it just gave way. Another problem developed on the way home. The right side window rolled down and now it won't go back up. Add that to the list of things. I am going to try to take a look at that myself tomorrow or Sunday. I will try to take the door panel off and see what the connection and wiring looks like and possibly the lubrication of the motor assembly. I may regret it as I am not very mechanically adept.

Ron, I was thinking, Could they have pushed on the windshield when the raised the top to check for fit? Mine cracked due to a stone. I really do not see it crack as you described. |

Had the car at the upholsterer's today for the final touches on re-lining the boot cover. Looks nice and is very well done. Problem is, the car was sitting at an uphill slant all day with the back end higher than the front. I guess the car was a bit flexed or torqued and put too much stress on the windshield. When I went to pick it up the windshield had a crack in it. It is about 6-8 inches starting at the edge of the windshield on the drivers side about eye level. Called the insurance company and they will take care of it, minus the deductible. Now I have to drive it home. Hope it does not continue cracking. Since it was so late in the afternoon nothing can be done today. They will get back to me next week. We'll see how long it takes to get a winshield in and also how good a job is done installing it. I had just posted my FOC window sticker this week also.
