I would reccomend Group 3 Aviation (Van Nuys), they have been very accomodating and are very nice people to deal with, you can call either Peter or Claudia (the Owners) @ 818-994-9376 and let them know that Adam Alexander referred you. You can get a lot of info and prices from their website which I have listed in an earlier post. Email me if you have any other questions. [email protected] |

Adam, I'm in Woodland Hills as well. One of my buddies just got his pilot slot for the air force and is being comissioned next month, from there he has till January to get his PPL from a private school before being sent to pilot training. Since he is doing this I'm thinking of going to the same school with him so we could do it together. What school would you recommend in the area that offers the best combo of training, quality of air craft, and price? |

actually, for what it is worth the speed limit is 250 KIAS or CMS (clean maneuvering speed) below 10,000 ft, Which can be in a large jet much higher than 250. congrats on your solo, you will never forget it!! |

Byron, Sounds good. Jordan, The other catch is that helicopters are quite a bit more expensive to learn on over the Cessna. Check out www.group3aviation.com they have all the prices listed on their site. I found them to have comparative prices to everyone else in the area. |

Well I dont legally fly I know a lot of instructors though and I spend some time with them and they usually let me fly a bit. Ive got about 20 hours of flight time even though I dont have my private pilots liscense yet. I havent flown in a while though...Starting to miss it Adam, I meant to say intro flights. Are they around the same price as cessna intro flights? The ones Ive done were 30-40. If they are, I might try and schedule one next weekend. |

Jordan, I am using Group 3 Aviation in Van Nuys for Helicopter and Vista Air in Whiteman (Pacoima) for fixed wing. SMA & LGB are too far for me. The fastest I have been is about 135knts in a Robinson R44 that I flew from Van Nuys to San Jose. |

Byron, I am learning in a Schweizer 300CB, which is basically a lawn mower with a couple of seats attached to it. When I get my license I will transition to a larger aircraft. I do not own one YET, I will probably wait a year or two before buying one as insurance is insane for a new pilot (probably the same as putting a 17year old in an Enzo) I have had lessons in fixed wing and helicopter, and all I can say it is a personal preference, try them both and decide what works best for you. I will probably get my fixed wing license at some point down the road. The helicopter has been much more chalenging for me than a fixed wing, but they are both a blast. I feel equally as safe (or unsafe) in either. |

Byron: The speed limit is 250 kts indicated below 10,000. I bet that none of us could afford something that would break the speed limit. Opening price in excess of 2 million. Art |

Adam I didnt know you were a pilot. Seems like everyone here is but me...Im working on it though Thats great you took your solo today. What airport do you fly out of? Im going to get my ppl next summer hopefully. Im between deciding on a couple of schools out of LGB and SNA. So what made you choose helicopters over fixed wing aircraft? |

what kind of helicopter was it btw? Do you own one? I've never been in one, but for some reason have felt somewhat apprehensive about "trusting" helicopters over planes... your thoughts? |

I completed my first solo flight in a helicopter today, maybe this will solve my speeding ticket problems, now all I have to do is convince Ferrari to make a V12 helicopter.

Fourth in one year? Don't worry about your insurance carrier, worry about DMV. You've just passed the limit for negligent driving. If you've been convicted on the first three, this one will put you over the limits, and you can expect a 30 day suspension. Get a lawyer, a good one, and see what you can do about this. It's probably going to be expensive. Art |

just got my valentine 1, its already saved my butt a couple times, i thought 400 was alot for a detector and almost got the less expensive brand, not only does it tell you when your being tracked but because the man leaves his radar much of the time, even when there not using it, it tells you when theres a cop in the area, i dont know how i ever got along without it, best investment i ever made you guys do know that the only time its legal for the highway patrol to use radar on a cal freeway as an excuse to write you a ticket is when its posted, and on most freeways its not posted |

I got pinched for 77 in a 65 three months ago. As I signed my donation to the state , I started to laugh. The revenue collector asked why ? I told him I would be embarassed to show this to the judge. I told him that I have on display in my study the rest of my donations to the state all framed with pride. All for going triple digits . He said he could increase the speed on the citation, I told him my Aunt (a Judge by profession ) was listening in to our conversation on my cell phone and I didn't think he wanted to do that. WFO |

Adam- Get a lawyer. You can go to traffic school more than once every 18 months; had a guy in traffic school that had been to traffic school 3 times in the last 8 months. And the front plate ticket is bullshit. I got one too, just put a plate on, get it signed off by any cop at the PD, pay a $10 "processing fee" at your local traffic court, and your good; tangentially, the only reason that a front plate is required by CA law is to make the camara stoplight efficatious. Good luck. |

fight the ticket in court first before you sign up for school as the little piglet might not show up for court. i got pulled over in my daytona while driving on pch on a saturday night, the cop saying he clocked me at 75 in a 45 zone but couldnt show me his radar when i requested to see myself then writing me for no front plate, despite the fact that i had my dealer plate on the car,and the nerve to semi-flirt with my date, she was a fuuny gal and when he gave me the ticket she asked him if he wanted one more look at 2 things he would never get to drive!i requested a court date and the little j/o didnt show up. |

Saturday night, 405 northbound at John Wayne, I was taking it real easy as I knew there were a lot of cops about. Everywhere I went this Mazda MPV was tailgating me, so I decide to get out of his way and put my foot on the gas (a little..), next thing I know Lights and Sirens... 83MPH!!!, I have never had such a chicken s--t tiicket before, I am embaressed to say that I got a ticket in a Ferrari doing 83. The last one in the Porsche was at 130mph. (A respectable speed...) If I am going to get nailed, I just wish I would have made the most of it. I think thats 4th in the last 1 2months, my insurance guy is going to kick my butt. I will beg the judge for trafic school. He also wanted to make sure that he told me that he was "doing me a favor" for not ticketing me for no front license plate. I think he jist wanted to check out the car Cost of driving a f-car in so-cal I guess. |
