As in any event,
you can't please everybody.

We called to find out if we can bring the Diablo GT. The organizer discouraged us from doing so and the conversation was not inviting which is
why we abstained from participating.
It ends up there were 3 Diablos anyway.

anyhows - no biggie -
some events are "fun" - some "not-so" - and some just plain "suck"

no matter what - drive safe and enjoy - lifes too short for petty matters

I totally disagree, this event is very well done, the organizer has gotten at least 6 different police agenicies to fully support the event in one of the busiest districts in Los Angeles. In the middle of a summer Sunday, he has gotten clearnace to not just use a major road to the beach, he gets help from the various agencies to set up cross road blocks.

I found the organizer to be extremely affable and very pro-anything with wheels.

He seems to want to try to organize the parked cars that are waiting for the event to start according to model type. Its a very well run event and as far as I know very few people have anything but good things to say.

Last year I did the drive, we were put in the Non-Ferrari section with my Porsche turbo and the Diablo's, we ended up near the front of the pack. Seemed to me like all the guy was trying to do is put like cars together and people had a great time. When I called to see if I could participate, the guy was very friendly. Seems like your bad experience was unique amoung the participants. Why not try it again another year and see how it goes?

One thing that was interesting, is that the police and highway patrol were very helpfull during the parade, but after lunch, when it was time to leave the parking lot and head down PCH to Malibu, the radar was so thick you could could get a tan. I saw one pack of motorcycle police, no doubt resting from the hectic parade, 6 deep in the bushes. It seems like they were expecting one or more of the 160 Ferrari and Lambo people to exceed the 45 mph limit on the way back to town down the empty, straight, 4 lane wide, Pacific Coast Highway 10 miles downhill until you hit Malibu, imagine that!

Hey Jerry,

Welcome to the board. Hope you join us for some more drives. I was on this drive too and once we got going it was a real blast.

It turned out that the 308-348 & Mondial section was pretty close to the front. All the 360's and 355's had to exit the parking lot and fell in behind us.

DES, you should have seen it. The count was 160 Ferraris. They had a CHP escort with CHP and Sherrif roadblocks at each light and stop sign so that we could blow right on through them. I think it was about a 35 mile drive.

Most of the road was curvy through the mountains. So it was a bit slow but there were fast stretches. It was a sight to see the officers waving us on through as we blew through lights with some of them indicating to speed it up. It finally opened up for the last 3-4 miles on PCH. Several drivers got the chance to rev it out pretty good on that stretch.

Then we had a pretty good lunch on the beach. The weather was spectacular. Not a cloud in the sky except down by the beach where it was a bit cool and still overcast. That made it comfortable for lunch though.

All in all, it was quite a drive. Waiting from early morning was a drag though. I've never seen so many Ferrari's in one place before.

Jerry,
If you were driving behind a Blue Scurro 348 spider, then that was probably Jean-Louis' car. Glad to hear you had a great time - and welcome to the so cal fchat section(I noticed it was your first post).

In Matt's defense, he does drive his car... and takes it out of the garage ALL THE TIME! :-) (Too much, if you ask just about anyone out here, but oh well!)... FDC events are on all the time... and no, there's no baggin' on FOC or FCA members... I personally would agree with Matt, though, that it's difficult to place weight on what a "better" ferrari is over another...

A ferrari is a ferrari. There isn't one that is so much better than the other. Whether it's an Enzo or a GT4, they are all from the same family of fine cars.

Please join us at our launch event on the 12th, Jerry. Email me at [email protected] and I will provide you the details (or just find them here).

Jerry,

I drive my car everyday so getting it out is not a issue. I was looking forward to the drive but I got such a bad taste in my mouth from Mike that it really ruined the day. Another thing was the drive, according to the Pilota, was suppose to leave @ 8:30. In reality the drive did not start until 11:00.

THe fellow f-chatters on the board and I have done MANY drives over the year. If you look around in the so cal section, you can see them

I was on the event and it was awesome. A full day of driving the malibu hills with no traffic. The weather was perfect and the cars and eye candy were hot. Hey "DON" tell the whole story. Its all about driving and thats what we did on Sunday. I have one of those million 355's you mentioned and I was driving behind a 348. We had a blast. You did not say if you had a good time. If you have great driving events thats awesome how do I sign up? But don't bag on any chance to get your car out of the garage.

That really is pathetic that the organizer would do something like that. There is no "lower class" Ferrari...

BTW, Brian, can you please e-mail me at [email protected] with regards to your Jet-X company?

The FOC has 2 events in LA. The rest are in SD.

FCA is worth it and the FDC puts on some great drives. The guy that puts on the FDC is one hell of a event organizer ;)

Thanks for the info...was getting ready to join FOC (seriously), and now I think I'll 're-think' my membership. My lowly Mondial would've been stuck in the boonies.

Still thinking of joining FCA and will join FDC...

FOC had a drive today put on by a HUGE A$$CLOWN. This elitest prick made the cars, 348 and below, park about a 1/4 mile away on the street rather then the parking lot where we were. There were about 200 Ferrari's but I stopped taking pictures due to the A$$CLOWN making me move my car down the street.

there were 3 f-40's, a few thousand 360's, a few million 355's, a Barchetta, a couple of Daytona spiders, one chop top daytona owned but the a$$clown organizer.

And the FOC wonders why they are losing membership.

HEY FOC, I THINK YOU HEAR THE FDC KNOCKING AND WE ARE COMING IN.

Consider this a shot fired across your bow.
