Thanks for the tips everyone, I had a blast, I cant believe how much hard work it was, I dont work that hard when I actualy go to work :-)

I did not go on "the streets" as it was way too much for a newbie, maybe after a couple of other trips.

I will post a few photos shortly.

Adam: you running big track or streets? i can advise if you tell me which one. I've done big willow more times than i can remember, and streets a couple. good luck, bring extra oil, lots of water, and stay in the shade. don't engage your parking brake after an out session, do open the hoods after each session and let the motor cool, let it idle for a few minutes before you shut it down, and take your cool down lap seriously... cool down; don't treat it like one last attempt at the record. email me: [email protected], or you can call me: 619 251 5146

The last time I was there early this year, the $400k 360 GT crashed too, not as bad as those F50 pics but bad enough..

Thanks

do warm-up laps
take your time to warm up your tire
think about your line / braking / and shifting points
ride along with someone who knows how to drive the track before you drive the track yourself.

do 20 minute sessions approx. 12 laps then bring your car in for a rest.

3 of the 12 laps would be for warm-up.

and the last lap should be for cool-down
(no heavy braking / no high reving)

there's too many to list

give me a call if you'd like to talk about it.

Generally, letting off the gas when you get in trouble is a wrong call. Try the streets side first, the big track you need to stay on the gas and not crumble under pressure. I recommend not doing it in a spider and not doing it without a roll bar. I was behind a Porsche America that rolled at 15 mph, the driver hurt his neck, seemed like a life long injury. Its fun but careful.

I would really recomend the Open Track Racing Forum, they talk a lot of smack over there but they also are very helpful and have plenty of experience at WSIR.

Adam- make sure youre cooling system is ok, in the cars and yourself...it will be HOT out there-lower your tire pressure just a bit before your runs because the tires heat up big time on the track.

Tape up the fronts. If your doing Streets, that becomes doubly important.

So I am going on Thursday. The wife will be in the 996 Cab, and I will be in the 360 Spyder. Has anyone been before? Any comments, or words of wisdom?

Adam
