By myself I'm pretty slow. I don't officially know since I have never had an offical time there. I did a 1:42 behind a porshe buddy who knew what to do and that was an official time but I'm not that good to duplicate that myself again...I don't think. I followed him on successively faster laps until I ran out of tire turn 2 and nerve on turn 8/9. With a good driver that car should be maybe 1:35? The fast viper guys do 1:25-30. |

Hi Billy, what kind of time do you turn at WSIR in your f-car? Do you know any other fast cars will be at this event? |

Hugh, You are right I just have nearly zero time to get to him. I was not going to do my alignment just play with corner weights before I did the alignment. I know D could do it but I wanted to see how far I could move weight around...just an educational thing. Also I misplaced his number could you give it to me again...I'm such a dork. If I get a day off I'll get over there. My car handles like crap right now but it is lower and the camber is more negative but the specs and weights are all off. Finally, my balls are not big enough to be confident on WSIR. I'll push the first 7 turns and leave the last 2 for guys with hair on their chests. My eyes always get bigger about 1/2 way through 7...it is sooooo fun. [email protected] |

Billy bob... I'd urge against doing your own alignment, and it's not at all b/c I think you couldn't do it, but b/c it can make all the difference in the world (big willow is all about being confident in your setup). Call Darrin, make an appointment , and if you're in a rush tell him and he'll try to accomodate you. Tell him I sent you... it'll transform your car. Which pirellis are you going to try? It's not a slick, but I've heard very good things about the corsa and also about the michelin pilot sport cups. |

Hubert Check with tim at the beginning of this thread. I paid already by paypal so I don't know his procedure. I have never run with his group but hear good things. Few cars and lots of track time. AS to the alignment I have not had time to do it. I'm just going to wing it. I'm almost ready for new rubber anyway. I'm going to get some Pirelli slicks to keep up with your honda on street tires! I hope you can make it to WSIR.

Bart, or anyone else thinking about tracking for the first time.... I'm one of the founders of the Northern California Racing Club (http://www.ncracing.org/) mentioned below. We have lots of info on our site to help novices get involved with the sport, and you might read http://www.ncracing.org/logistics.html to get a feel of what's involved, but yes practically any car can be driven on the track. Different clubs will operate under different rules of course, but you'll get the general idea. Specifically you'll want to make sure you get instruction for the first few events you attend, at least. We're doing most of our events in N. California, so it probably doesn't meet your plans, but if you're interested, our schedule is at http://www.ncracing.org/events.html Dave |

Bart, this last event was my first track day...LOTS of fun. In fact, Sunny and I were both saying how we would love to see you and your 550 on the track The track events differ in what they offer. However, this last one, you could bring your own car, get professional instruction on the track (included in the price), and even a chance to ride in a 360 challenge around the track. The group that showed up had the whole track to ourselves from 9-5pm and even had a special lunch catered for us by a great Italian chef! My understanding is that you dont need any special equiptment, just make sure all your fluids are ok and your car is in good working order. The guys also strongly suggest bolting in a small fire extinguisher within reach from the drivers seat. I have yet to do that but I will! The only thing required is a helmet...although at this last event I just borrowed one from Sunny. As far as speed, you can go at your own pace...slowly until you get a feel for the track, then as fast as you can |

Here is my question. I have never gone to a "Track Event". What is it and what do you do there? Can I go on the track with my car? Do I need any special equipment? How fast can I go? |

Joseph, Hey... welcome to F-Chat!! Boy, I'd love to see that monster run @ WSIR! Better yet, I'd love to go for a ride! I know you can DEFINITELY show me a thing or two! (Do you even have a spare seat?) October looks to be a pretty busy month for me - don't know yet if I'll be able to swing it and be in town during a weekday... But I'll let you know for sure... Btw, FDC will be hosting a drive that weekend though, on Sunday 10/12. Hopefully, you can bring the TR out for some fun!

Only twice, both times at Willow, shared time on the big track thrashing a friends new 01 XJR and later that year streets beating up my XJ6. And its true, I have to be in a canyon to be really enjoying myself - wrong tool for the job, I know I know. It does ruin the experience, that was one of the major reasons I didn't show up the last track day. |

I think I'm going to run Tim's event here and then run Las Vegas with the Alfa club. Once you start doing the track you get addicted. The street just ain't no fun no more. So if you have never been on the track don't start...it will runin your street driving experience. |

I don't know if I will be moving to San Diego at the end of Sept or early Oct. I'm interested though and will 'watch the clock' closely and this thread for a week or two while things are up in the air. Its my beater, but I like to drive 10/10ths. Sunny |

Tim runs some good events, and doesn't over pack the track. From what I have seen, he doesn't even have to run separate heats. You get as much track time as you can stand. Bring lots of tires and brake pads... Brad |
