The 550 is stealth. The 360 is an attention getter.

The deal for the 360 that I'm looking at now includes automatic placement onto the list for the 360 replacement (The 420) due to be out in a couple of years. Does this change anyones decision?

For me the 360 F1 is the most beautiful ferrari of the with central engine. Its a dino of 21Th century, but with 400 cavallinos of course.
The frontal is a dino, but more original and the rear is a maranello more agressive, the interior is wonderful with 308-355 style without central console.
The Maranello is most powefull, but the modena is more fun and fast on the track. The sound of the modena is more ferrari.
The 360 is the ferrari for the sportman and the 550/575 for gentelman drivers. Im sportman.

The 360 will be MUCH more of a attention getter from all kinds of people no matter where you go. If thats what you want or can handle.

THe 550 is more of a silent killer to the ones who know what it is when they see it.

hi jun,

i've driven both 550s and 360s. for the type of driving you have described the 360 F1 is the way to go. period. 550s are a great car, but a 360 is a thousand times more fun...especially with an F1 gearbox. buy a 360 now and get your name on a waiting list for the 360 replacement due out in a couple of years.

I believe that you simply have to weigh whether or not you want a sportscar or a GT and whose lines do you like better. The 360 is light and nimble, the 550 has very long legs but is heavier and more af a straight line burner. You can't beat the sound of a 550 with TUBI, but then you cant beat the looks (IMO) of a black 360 coupe and the magic of the F1 system.
550 prices are actually very soft right now, so you should be able to get a '00 550 coupe for at least $25-30k less than the '03 360.
I think Jordan is speculating that from this point the 550 should hold it's value better than the 360 as initial depreciation (and other factors) has hit the 550. Remember that a "new" 360 is coming, and that the 575M's (550's are a generation "old" already!) are soft and not selling. You could drive a heal of a deal on the 550, own it for a couple of years, sell it, then go out and pick up a 360 F1 when it has depreciated to maybe $135k. You get the ownership experiences of each, pay less now, and save some dough.
Just my 2 cents...

Hey Jun, welcome to the website. Its a great place and the guys around Southern California (including a few from south orange county like me) get together and drive quite often!

As far as your next Ferrari, both are great cars! I haven't been in a 360 to compare, but I have been in a 550 and when you press on the gas pedal, that thing just launches like a rocket. If you want to put a smile on your face everytime you take it for a spin, I would suggest a 550! The thing is a BEAST! I also believe they will hold their value a bit more than the 360 (especially an F1 coupe).

Hello everyone! I recently discovered F-Chat and was amazed by what a great forum this is for F-enthusiasts it seems to be filled with a lot of friendly, enthusiastic, supportive and knowledgable people. I've loved the marque since I was a kid for its heritage, engineering and that sound!!!! I have been lucky enough to have owned (2) so far (Mondial Cab and TR.) I'm currently looking for my 3rd. Here is where I would like to hear eveyone's opinion. I cant' decide between an 03' 360 F-1 and a 00' 550. Do I go with the flashy and quick 360 (warranty and all) or do I go with the more traditional looking and powerful 550? I'm a weekend non-track driver who enjoys driving the roads of O.C. and enjoying the sights and sounds. I've lived through maintenance costs for both an 8 cyl. and a 12 cyl. and the cost difference between the two is not a factor for me. Thanks everyone for your opinions. I will post again after I've decided which way to go and let eveyone know.
