Thanks everyone -- I figured it out. It may be a K40, but the dealership from whom I bought it said it was a V1. I have an unmounted V1 separately, and the one in the 355 sounds totally different, too. This one just tends to light up all the time. I think I'll stick to the regular V1 and just keep the mounted detector off.

Hi Jeremy, V1's have the directional arrows in the display and also require visibility to the rear for maximum efficiency. Most people do not mount them in.

Are you sure it is not a K40 (I think that is the designation, I know the 40 is correct)? That is the one most people mount.

NOrmally the built in ones turn on automatically. If they do not they have a switch of some sort to activate them. Look under the dash.

I am sure a hig end auto stereo shop can find out what is installed and how to make it work. Find one that handles K40's.

If it does turn on, I don't know it. :-)

I'll poke around some more tonight and try to figure it out.

I'm looking forward to the next drives! The tubi exhaust sounds awesome...

I just took delivery of my 355 Spider (yeah!), which had a Valentine One installed back in December 1999. I see the little LED that was added to my dash, but really have no idea if the detector is still part of the car and, if so, how to even turn it on. Anyone else have a V1 installed that can point me in the right direction?
