Also re:Z06...on the days I've been there, to give you an idea of how much lap times vary, I don't believe anyone in a Z06, and there were several, broke 1:40.

I don't doubt the Z06 times for a moment, WSIR is definitely a horsepower track and the Z06 has great power-to-weight, and lots of rubber on the ground. My times are not all that great, certainly wasn't risking the car. I saw that Roger Foo (Speed Touring Car driver) lapped WSIR in a 330i 4-door automatic on Falken Azenis (I believe) tires in 1:37 or so, which tells you what a pro driver is capable of. And of course he wasn't trying to be conservative with the car...he was using all it had.

For reference purposes a bone stock 2002 Z06 on factory F1 tires and a pro ace driver ran the big track in 1min 28. Not bad for a bone stock $50K car :-).

Yes, the Hoosiers were RS303's, the DOT tire. Stock rim size, tires were 245/40-18 and 275/35-18. Car was stock in every respect except for the tires. The M3 really is a heck of a buy, when you figure it carries four (screaming) passengers.

Gary those hoosiers where are stock wheels so they were 303's the dot race tire not a true slick right? So the M3 could be even faster with wheels and slicks. I am sure the E46 probably had the full interior in it too with the A/C etc. I don't think the 355C and I'm 95% sure the 348C can't get close to those numbers the E46 can get. Infact I don't think they can do better than the E36. Also once you up the ante on the E36/46 and add in some other go fast suspension upgrades you can probably go as fast as the 360c and take a couple passengers! It looks cool to go around with the prom queen but at the end of the day...fast is fast.

My times from WSIR are 1:40.2 in a bone-stock E36 M3 with BFG g-Force TA KDs, and 1:35.3 in an E46 M3 on Hoosiers, otherwise stock.

If it's any comparison, Gary, I once did 1:50 in my stock E36 M3! Well, with exhaust. (That was my first time on the track, though!)

So, I guess no one has seen an actual lap time for the 360 on street tires...

I've "heard" that a stock GT2, on street tires, with a good driver is in the 1:20's, and with a real hot shoe, should break in to the high "teens." I've also heard that a certain silver car is in the (mid to high) 1:30's (on street rubber), but the guy couldn't drive his way out of a wet paper bag (insert grain of salt, here ____).

billybob:
stock 360 : 2,900 lbs. 395hp
360GT: 2449lbs. and ~ 430hp

The Viper group runs strong also:
The late Paul Mumford in his comp coupe 1:21.962
eric Meesley ran several times in the 1.17's in his Heavily modified Viper.

Good luck in your pursuit of an airline career! It's a crazy business, but if you love flying, go for it. My son, also a UAL pilot, calls it the world's best job in the world's worst industry.

Ahhh... Costa, Joseph, thanks for chiming in here! I knew I was in the right range, but didn't have the exact numbers! Gary - these guys are both true racers, so I would take their numbers with confidence. :-)

I personally qualified the 360 challenge during the Tribute to le mans in 2001 in 1.22.7. The race was organized by the Porsche owners club and the time was Officially timed by their timingand scoring service.
1.17.8 is the best time Bill Auberlen made with the 360 gt; Cort would probably do the same.

I have seen many time posted by 360 challenge car at WSIR (all on slicks).

1:28 by club racer
1:24 by Pro driver

In a 360 GT

1:24 by club racer
1:19 by Pro driver (Cort)

360 is a wonderful track car, due to the undertray (downforce).

Gary, don't quote me on this, but I believe the 360 Challenge will do WSIR lap times of mid to low 1:20's. This would be on slicks, of course.

I would assume that the 360 on street tires should do about 1:30's, and on slicks, probably mid to high 1:20's, depending on the driver.

Just a guess.

Was wondering if anyone can post representative lap times at the Willow Springs big track for a 360, on street tires or R compounds. I'm selling my E46 M3 and will be taking delivery on a new 360 next summer, if the dealer estimate is accurate, and wanted to get a comparison.
