I haven't been on the Internet since last thursday .... and I was a bit pissed on Friday and Saturday, because I couldn't attend the FChat meeting at the ring .... Jens had organized it in such a nice way .... it would have been such a great day .... meeting FChatters and having fun ..... but then I read this VERY sad news .... unbelievable .... silence .... tears .... my heart stopped beating for a few seconds .... what a nightmare ....

Rest in peace Jens ... rest in peace Amar ...

My deepest condolences to their families and friends, wishing a lot of strength in this hard time ...

Best regards from a very sad F-Chatter, Edvar

Everyone,

I have just had an emotional phone call with Wolfgang. I have been in a meeting all week (the reason that I could not join the F-Chat delegation to the Nrburgring) and have therefore not been online. Wolfgang just passed the tragic news on to me....

Although I had never met them, Jens and Amar had become real friends online. They were passionate about their cars and were really supportive when I had problems with mine. I am shattered.

I would like to pass on my deepest sympathiest to the families and to all who knows Amar and Jens.

For everyone here, I'm truly sorry to hear about this tragic loss. I cannot put into words on how I feel now. Even though I had never met them, it felt like an inner circle of kindred spirits, all enjoying information exchannged in this forum. God Speed Jens and Amar.

Hello All,

Just got back from Bonn.

As I've seen you already heard the news.
Like you all read, there's no need to come to the nordschleife anymore.

Jens and Amar both passed away :-( :-( :-(
The car somehow flipped over and caught fire. They didn't got out.

There will be more info later on, tommorow orso.

Best whishes,

Not much more info yet but from the Ringers list

I am sorry to report that there was a bad smash this afternoon, we were chatting at about 14.45 in the car park when a newish looking 360? modena with UK plates left the gates, we were talking about the fact that they don't handle, are better in the car park etc etc.. at about 15.00 a closure was declared, Caz was with us and her mobile started to ring, it was Jocke, he arrived 20 - 30 seconds after it happened, he came over flugplatz and saw the smoke from the burning 360. It had spun out at S-Kruez landed on it's roof, and caught on fire. They have just said on local radio that the driver was English and the passenger was a German. They both died.

It seems to confirm it was a UK Modena 360

I wish I was able to join you all at Nurburgring, but that will not be possible. Enjoy...and I look forward to seeing the photos!

Only one day left and i'm really starting to get excited, heh. Wouldn't wanna miss this for the world. Went over the program again and there is just no possible way for this event to fail. (*knocks on wood*)

Haven't been very active on the board the last few weeks, but still I've been reading, just not so much posting.

Oh one thing, Ton, I read you won't be with us untill friday morning? Couldn't get thursday off eh? Shame though, I was waiting for the opportunity to beat an ex-fighterpilot at karting. Even though it has nothing to do with eachother, somehow it seems to hold some brag-value. Ah well :-) will see you on friday. Make sure the 328 is clean! hah.

Great to hear Harry is coming over again too. He's a great guy and I would love to fetch a ride with him around the ring. Didn't get the opportunity to ask him last time (hopefully no big accidents this time), but I haven't forgotten how fast he was in his porsche. *wow*

Oh, took a quick peek at the website of the Hotel just now. All I can say is 'not too shabby... at all'. Seriously, looks -great-.

Bart and I will leave together at 9:00 for the trip to Bonn, which should get us there well before 15:00. (Gotta love the Autobahn)

I'll finish with saying I really feel forward to meeting everyone (again), putting some faces to the names here, and having a great time overall. I'm 100% sure this will be the case.

Cheers!

Jens and Ton,

Compared to your shiny Ferraris, mine will be the great unwashed one I'm afraid, maybe showing the effects of some good driving over from London. And with any luck I'll see Michael S in the morning to compensate for missing out on his kart track in the evening.

Yes Ton it will be tight but I hope to find some good and not-too-crowded roads in your country and enjoy the drive through Belgium as much as usual. See you Thursday night Jens, hopefully in time to join you all for dinner; and see you Friday Ton...

Ciao,

Amar,

Sounds like a very tight plan to me. I hope that you make it. There will be plenty of facilities in Bonn to have something to eat. It is actually a very nice city with a lot of bars and restaurants.

I will arrive at the hotel on fridaymorning and join you guys for breakfast. I am really looking forward to meeting you all (again).

Amar,

Wow, sounds like a busy day!
We will be at the Schumacher cart track for thursday evening and then come back to the hotel to have some drinks at the bar or a beergarden near by.
About dinner nothing special is planned although at the hotel as well near by there are some possibilities.
You surely got my mobile now. Guess we will be back at around 2200 or so.
I could easily phone you on your room to meet up for the drinks or/and a snack.
Hope that is OK with you!

Hello Jens and all,

First, a small change in my arrival time... for a very good reason - I got invited to F1 testing at Silverstone Thursday morning with Ferrari, Williams and others in attendance. So the hope is to be in the pits for morning session from 10:00-13:00 and then dodge the cops all the way to Dover for the 16:00 ferry - wish me luck!

With Calais arrival at 18:00 local time and yet more luck and the kindness of French and Belgian Police, I hope to get to our hotel by 21:00-21:30. Is that completely unrealistic considering Belgian traffic and police?

Anyway Jens, what time do you plan to get to dinner Thursday and shall we meet there directly? Precise directions would be most appreciated.

And I've even finally bought a digital camera (Canon Ixus 400) - who knows I might even master enough of the very thick instruction guide to take a photo or two successfully...

Look forward to meeting everybody there and doing some fun laps!

A presto,

Hello everybody,

Just checked out the weather forecast! Looks bad for tomorrow but the weekend should be dry and a little bit colder than today:
All in all perfect outcast.
Just cleaned the car thoroughly. Filled up a liter Shell Helix 0W-40, adjusted tire pressure to specs and filled her up with Shell V-Power 100 Octane.
I am ready!
Looking forward to have some fun with you and some red cars! :-)

Nice that you want to come! Will mail you the provisional programm as soon as possible. At saturday we will be at the Nordschleife pretty much the whole day for sure. Guess we will be there at around 1100 or so and stay till the track closes at around 1930.

Would you please be so kind to send me all data of the event by EMail? Thank you very much in advance ...

Guy,

Great! No problem by the way: We dont want to trash our cars, too, so nobody will blame you for just driving around slowly or just watching the other cars!

Guy
sure else e-mail me for further planning on this
i was thinking of driving to that hotel and meet-up with the rest
and another thing, how fast do you drive?
cuz i can't keep up, and i try not to drive to fast anymore, nowadays i stay around 130 km/h in belgium
i got some tickets last year, that i rather don't see again (unless when i got them in a ferrari, then the pain isn't so bad anymore)

Guy,

I know how you feel. Life can end around the corner.
The same thing happened to me. It also made me think about the unpredictable side of our lives. For that reason I decided to buy my Ferrari now instead of in a couple of years.
Live your life to the max!

Jens,

If i come i will definately come with the S2000!

Allthough i'm a bit scared to drive it at the Nordschleife!
It's a very difficult track i heared and i don't want to crash my car!

So it would be usefull if i get some hints like you said!

About my best friend: it really s*cks, he was ill for a while but things began to look fine and chances of healing were getting pretty high!
But then suddenly things changed and a week later he died!

It really affected me and made me think about life and how much we should be enjoying it!

Dirk,

As you may have read, i'm driving my S to the ring but we can still drive up there together, i hope you know how to drive!?

Let's hope the weather is fine!

CIAO to you all and see you at the ring! :-)

Guy,

First of all I am very sorry to hear from your friend. Already wondered where you are after not seing you online for such a long time.
Glad to hear that you join us! Hopefully more time to chat a bit. Where have you been at sunday in Spa? Ton and me didnt see you anymore! Anyway if you stay longer this time you will surely get some nice rides with some nice cars! How about bringing your Honda to the Ring? Its a very good car for that track and you should be really quick with it! Harry our "track instructor" also owns a S2000 and could surely give you some hints!
Anyway: Hope to see you there saturday! Bring good weather!!!! :-)

Hey guy

and it was too bad that we didn't talked more at Spa
well we could drive together or so, you don't live that far from here, keep in mind i have a slow car ;)

but i'm not sure at what time i will be heading back home that day, i probably won't make it too late, since i still want to go to Zolder the next day

Hey Jens and all the others,

Remember me, the guy with the S2000!?

I've been very busy (work, etc,...) and a month ago my best friend died (which really shocked me!) so i didn't have much time to post or follow the news about the meeting!

But i'm still trying to make it on saturday as i said before!

Maybe i can come together with Dirk? Dirk , if you read this...

I'm also looking forward to see the whole V8 range together!! :-)

To bad Bart Bosmans can't come with his fab 360 modena!

So see you all at the Nordschleife! :-)

Hi Jens,

Thanks for that, I hadn't realised Manu and gang were not coming, nor Jason and others I seem to recall had been interested. I guess Le Mans the weekend before made it tough for UK FCers to come over to Nurburgring as well.

Ton,

Thats very good news indeed!
Looking forward to it! Will email you privately about details!
Just noticed that we will have the whole Ferrari 8 cylinder history at the Ring from 1974 till today:
308
328
348
355
360
and a Porsche 911RS
Together with the 10 to 15 other drivers from Ferrari club BaW at saturday we will have a nice number of cars together! :-)

Jens,

I have good news! Harry (the very experienced Swedish trackdriver) will join us on saturday (and on sunday for people who are interested). He will be with us the whole day and can show us the tips and tricks of trackdriving. He will even give people the pleasure of enjoying the track, in his lightweight Porsche 911RS, from his empty seat.

I am really looking forward to this event.

Hello Amar,

Well, B.Rowe is the only one from the UK coming with his 355. Manu always said that he would bring a whole bunch of people but till now there are no names and no confirmations. I guess we have to "write them off".
I could provide you with Mr. Rowes email so you can arrange something with him for the drive.
I am looking forward to see you again and have some chat and some nice laps at the Nordschleife! :-)

Hi Jens,

Thanks once again for the great job of organising this, I'm looking forward to it. Might have to adjust the room request since Anna can't come; she has to work while I'm off having my fun! I'll email you offline.

What happened with the other UK based people who were planning on joining - have they dropped out? I was thinking I could have met up with them for the ferry across.

Warm regards,
Amar

Dirk, don't worry about being able to catch up with them, we won't be able to do that aswell :-)

To bad only 8 Fchatters are staying the whole weekend until now, but it will be a memorable weekend anyway.
How many people will have to opportunity (over 10 years, at the 10th meeting with over a 100 people attending) to say they went to the 1st (!) meeting ;)

Btw. Jens, have you heared something about Fchat.com window stickers from Rob?

Dirk,

Dont know what direction you are coming from! If you see the main tribune and the museum of the GP track on the left side when you pass you still have to go a bit to turn left into the street to Nordschleife. If its the other way around the street is right just before you see the tribune on the right side.
Anyway the street to NS is very near the only petrol station there and the signs cant be missed.
BTW: You could as well come to the hotel in Bonn where we start the tour and go with us to the track!

great thanks Jens
i plan on driving over in the morning, so i doubt that you guys will be at lunch then
else i will give you a call when i'm there
Last year i just followed the signs and then at a certain point i drove unther the track and saw the parkinglots and the main tribune
so i have to drive a bit further then and pass the museum right?

Dirk,

Just go for the signs saying Nrburgring! The Nordschleife is very near to the GP track. Just before you reach the GP track there is a sign saying "Zufahrt Nordschleife". Go there and you will get directly to the parking lot of the Nordschleife entrance. We will be there all day except perhaps for lunch! Propose you just look out for around twenty red cars parked side by side!
Shouldnt be a problem to find us, I guess! :-)

warm wellcome to the F-Chat. It's a pity that I do not read this forum permanently ;-(.
