Hi Howard,

As soon as I'm settled in Hertfordshire, I will join the club! I appreciate the lead and will check out DK Engineering in Rickmansworth. I found this site that features them: http://www.barchetta.cc/english/All.Ferraris/Events/98.DK/981011.e.98.Visit.DK.htm

Do they have their own website?

Thanks, MARK

Hi John,

Really interesting - I am in the same situation and have to keep my F-car a secret from most at work. It's amazing the strange perceptions that develop when you tell some people what you drive. If a number of my colleagues (and partners) knew about the 328, it would lead to some nasty politics.

The price you pay.....

Cheers, MARK

Mark
Mention me (Howard with Blue 355 GTS) when contacting the following:
DK Engineering in Rickmansworth for all engineering work. Ask for Jeremy or David on 01923 255246. True Ferrari magicians and just wait and see what is in their workshop. Great service, fairly priced.
GG Coachworks off the M25 just past M4 about 25 minutes from DK. They will repair and repaint all things Ferrari with no drama and plenty of respect.
Ask for Tony or John on 01753 684852.
If you are living in the UK you must join the Ferrari Owners Club on 01485 544500.

The picture is taken on the "T" of Bermondsey Wall East in this link:
http://www.multimap.co.uk/map/browse.cgi?X=535000&Y=179750&width=500&height=300&client=public&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&scale=5000&left.x=9&left.y=8
At the time I was thinking of getting a picture of the car to use as wallpaper on my PC at work. I keep my Ferrari ownership a secret from (almost) all my work colleagues, so I was careful not to include anything in the picture that might link it with me e.g. English number plate or identifiable London street :-).

By the way John, where was the photo on your "Profile" page taken? The cobble-stone looks familiar. MARK

Hi John,

Well, I bought my left-hander in Germany, so I unfortunately missed the discount! I have owned a LHD Alfa Spider in a RHD country for...18 years now! I agree, it does make it a little more exotic, and that's the way the car was designed!

Cognitive dissonance strikes again

Hi Mark. Thanks, your's too. I tell people that I don't mind having a left-hand-drive car in the UK because it makes it seems even more exotic, it was originally designed for LHD, the pedals are less offset, gear changing is easier with the right hand, blah, blah, blah.

The reality of course is that LHD 328s are about 10k cheaper than RHD in this country, so I could afford one ;-) LOL.

Best wishes, John

Greetings Howard,

As you will see from my earlier postings below, I am going to be relocating to Herts (Harpenden/St Albans area) within the next six months. It sounds like there's already an active "Hertfordshire Ferrari" chapter of the FOC and I look forward to linking up with them when I move. I look forward to meeting you.

Cheers, MARK

Roads in london to go for a quick spin.... forget it. I'm in Rickmansworth, Herts and there are some great "A" roads around here. I drive a blue 355gts, what other Ferrari's are there around? Btw if anyone needs work doing on their car I can recommend great coachbuilders and engineers. Next week I am having a new rear window fitted as my one is cracked and I am fitting some KandN air filters. What is the meetimg on April 9 all about, maybe I'll come.

Hi Amar. I think we must live quite close together. I'm in Bermondsey and walk across Tower Bridge on my way into work each morning. I've exchanged a couple of headlight flashes with a Red 360 driver a couple of times near the north side of the Rotherhithe tunnel. If you remember that then I'm the guy in the 328! :-).

Interested to compare notes with other F-car drivers in central London, particularly which roads they use to go a quick spin.

Hi Amar,

I'm actually the Regional Human Resource leader for my firm, but worked as a Consultant in my previous life. So I'm the guy who recruits, hires, pays and fires... I'm a Psychologist by profession.

Yes - the house in Harpenden/St Albans is our attempt at putting down roots and changing our lifestyles. My wife travels as much as I do; while I was in the USA this week, she was in Austria. We need a change...had enough of meeting each other at airport cafe's to share a cup of coffee!

Hmmmm...there are some other REALLY tempting locations where I would love to aquire property - Slovenia, Croatia, Czech Republic, etc... We've done some good motorcycle travel in those countries.

Cheers, MARK

Ton, you're too right. One year from now I hope to be in a much healthier lifestyle or my girlfriend, who is a laid-back Italian, will beat the crap out of me - she promises!

Mark, is your office near London Bridge by any chance? Are you a consultant? I am, and the travel patterns have been all too familiar for the last many years. St Albans is very nice; who knows, before long I might head there or some other leafy area somewhere in Europe...

Hi Amar,

I am with one of the lobal "Big-Five" (or should that be "four" or "three"? ) Audit/Tax/Legal/Consulting firms. Me and stress - we are one!!

Yes Ton - agreed. But I have yet to find a profession where I can make loads of money without working hard!

Simon - that's excellent! Another good reason to move to Herts! When we drove into Harpenden in a rental car a couple of weeks back, there was a red 360 in front of us. I swore that it was a sign...this was where we had to stay! My wife and I will be house hunting again on the weekend of April 4...does Hertfordshire Ferrari have anything planned around that time?

Oh...any leads on a 3-4 bedroom house with a double garage at a givaway price would be MUCH appreciated!

Cheers MARK (back from NYC & now in Prague!)

Hi Mark (and any other Herts or North London people).

I am the group organiser for 'Hertfordshire Ferrari', which is the Hertfordshire area group of the FOC. When you move to St Albans do let me know. We have monthly meetings in a local pub there, plus a calendar of events during the summer weekends. You would be welcome to join us at these. Do email me at [email protected] if you want further details.

Hi Amar,

I am currently "on the road", but my wife has a new job to the North of London, so we are looking for a new house in the Harpenden / St Albans area. I'll keep you posted on where we end up!

It sounds like you're pretty close to my comapany's offices...let's definitely make the effort this summer.

Hi Mark,

I am a member of the UK club, though not active enough unfortunately because of travel and work. The London group is friendly and meets for drinks every month; I really have to find a way to join in more often.

I live in London, next to Tower Bridge! Are you in London often? You obviously travel a lot too. Definitely let's meet soon - let me know when you're around next.

Ciao,
Amar

Mark,

Years ago there used to be an English-language Ferrari magazine (don't remember the name) published I think from the UK with interesting content, but distribution was patchy and sales remained low and it went out of business.

You probably have this already but anyway here is the URL for the UK owners club:

Ton & Mark

I have all the World In Reds and #7 should be coming out around this time
I kinda like them, they have great photography, but for content they aren't that good
#2 is standing for sale on ebay.com for the moment by a dutch guy
i have almost all the ferrari story's aswell, there are almost 40 issues out

and there used to be an english version of Ferrari World, but they stopped in 1995/96
after 38 issues, i still want all of those for my collection

Hi Everyone,

AMAR: yes - I agree with your magazine recommendations, however I was wondering if there was anything specific to Ferrari. I guess I'll be joining the UK Owners Club!

JENS: I remember buying a copy of "Ferrari World" at Frankfurt Airport about 18 months ago. Although I did German at high school and a conversational course at university, I unfortunately miss some of the nuances, and lose it totally with some of the technical terms. That's my problem I guess....I need to improve my German (and seeing as my ancestors come from Hinterpommern, I should really have no excuses!)

DIRK: Thanks so much for the link. I will have to follow up on "World in Red" and "Ferrari Story".

TON: I look forward to your review (in Dutch, English and German! )

Very interesting. Although UK magazines "Classic & Sports Car" and "Classic Cars" often run reviews and comparisons of older Ferraris, I am surprised that there is not a dedicated F-magazine published in the UK. Hmmmm...one of my good friends is the MD of four of the UK's top "niche" motorcycle magazines. Perhaps this is another gap that he could fill! He and I will be riding vintage motorcycles through he Peoples Republic of Laos in November, and I will see if I can sell the idea to him!

Cheers, MARK

Thanks! I got hold of two "World in Red" magazines. I will have a look at them and report my findings to the crew later.

There is a purely Ferrari related magazine here in Germany. Its "Ferrari World" and is released four times per year. Sadly its only in german language. Quite OK, bought it every time since I own my Fcar but really not a must have.
Ton et al: Can show you the magazines next time when we meet to take the cars out for a spin :-)

Do you mean a purely Ferrari-related magazine for Europe? I'd love to know too if there is one (aside from the magazine and newsletter published by the UK owners club, both of which are pretty good).

The general car magazines I like in the UK are the monthly EVO and Car (there is also Top Gear), particularly for their car reviews, and the weekly Autocar for latest news of new models.

I know that there are threads elsewhere on FerrariChat covering Ferrari-related magazines. However, I'm not too sure how many of the periodicals referred to in those threads are US-specific.

So guys - please advise on good quality European Ferrari magazines that I should be subscribing to!

Thanks in advance, MARK
