Jens,

thanks a lot for the link to ebay. I will serious watch this auction. But to be honest, I prefer to buy at a dealer with strange reputation. I will drive this weekend again to Andernach with Ulli; or maybe on Friday `cause we will install the TUBI at RF garage. You know, he is the guy who takes care of my cars and will check the testarossa for me.
Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate every help to find the right one!

Wolfgang,

Just saw a Testarossa offered at www.ebay.de
Had around 50000km on the clock, 88model for 39000 Euros. Location: somewhere in Belgium
Pretty good price if the car is in the descripted condition.
Thought it might interest you. Just check it out at ebay if you like :-)

Sorry, a little bit offtopic:

Do you know, who was the pre-owner of this EB 110 SS ?

I'm sure it was Michael Schumacher's car.

Hi Guys, It was raining here this morning and so my F-drive was cancelled. Later in the day it cleared up a bit and so my wife and I did a quick 150km like this...

Not a Ferrari, but it was so good to get out! I look forward to seeing your pictures.

Havent got any mail or phone calls yet from Uwe and Wolfgang. Its roughly 10:15 and this means they should be on their way to Bonn right now.
Although weather is not nice its still dry at the moment.
This means I will definitely at the petrol station at 12:00.

Well actually I have cut the power stripes (as my favorite mechanic did say) and the mirror is behind the drivers seat.

Amar,

Thanks for the info on Ferrari's "Pilota" course - I think I'll take a look at the site again and treat myself to Mugello in the summer!

This afternoon I decided to do a little maintenance on my 328, namely fitting the new passenger window button on the driver's side and trying to get my mirror adjusting switch to work. I managed to replace the new (EUR 50) window switch in about 15 minutes...and the #$@%* passenger's window still does not budge. DAMN!

Next I refitted the mirror adjusting switch and started the car. Both mirrors started adjusting themselves, moving to their extremities. I tried to adjust them using the joystick and - PFFFFF - I blew the 7.5A fuse for the instrument panel All instruments and gauges stopped working!

OK - so I've removed the switch again and hope I have not screwed up the threads in the mirror adjusting mechanisms (as I had to manually push the mirrors back into a usable position). I drove down to my local filling station to get a new fuse and I'm glad to say that all the instruments work again! Phew!

Hey - does anyone out there know where I can get a new mirror switch? See my earlier posting at http://www.ferrarichat.com/discus/messages/21/125725.html#POST82805 to see what it looks like.

After all that stress, I thought I'd treat myself to a ride on my motorcycle. The battery was flat! Not a very successful day!!

Cheers, MARK

Hi Jens,

I'm glad to meet you and Ton tomorrow. Our ride will start at "Grfenhausen" at 10:15.

Currently I have some trouble with my F 328 GTS.
I was on the road and suddenly the left rear-view mirror has given up.

Tomorrow I will drive without view behind ;-)
But Wolfgang will guide me.

My favorite Ferrari workshop can fix that problem instead of a new mirror.

Cu tomorrow

Wolfgang, Uwe etc.,

Just checked out the route. First section of the street through the Ahrtal is closed since some boulders from the steep hills fell on the street. Nevertheless I found a good route to avoid the closed part so no problem :-)

Just mail me or phone if you should have problems tomorrow.
Otherwise we see face to face tomorrow.

Hi guys,

two things:
1. The TR is already for sale for a long time.
2. I have seen the 456 up close at another small dealer before it went to Engel. The servicebooks are updated untill 70.000km. The last major service was not recorded in the book (?). So the history of the car is known untill 70.000km. After that you have to trust the story of the salesmen. (I never trust the stories of salesmen).

I am looking forward to tomorrow. How wil the weather be? It might be fun if we stop with all of us at Engel.

Hello Mark,

That empty highway between the German border and Prague sounds very tempting and it's just been added to the wish list, thanks!

Ferrari's Pilota course provides the cars - about 10 available for the basic course with 16 participants (6 360s and 4 575s, with mix of F1 and regular 6-speed transmissions), and you'll have a chance to drive all the variations during the 2-day course. Incidentally, the had the 575 available for our course just a month after it had been launched, so we were amongst the first to drive it - it illustrates how much importance the factory gives to the courses. It's a great chance to drive the latest models and throw them around and come closer to their limits at Mugello than you would usually dare do with your own car!

You have to take the basic course at Mugello before being able to take the advanced one at Fiorano. It is expensive but I just found it not only useful to understand and enjoy the abilities of my car better on an excellent racetrack, it was great improving my driving skills and now I feel more confident of being able to drive and control it closer to the limits it was designed for.

Ciao,
Amar

Mark,

You are right with the 456. A very good price. Strange that I dont really like the red colour on that car. Silver or metallic blue would be better with me.
Still an extraordinary well designed car. Very simple and pure lines.
Good family car. Well, wait a minute: I dont even have a girlfriend right now. Better keep on hoping 550 prices drop drastically :-)

Hi Gentlemen,

Well spotted Jens! Looks like an interesting dealer to visit. I bought my car in Germany and had a nightmare with one of the largest dealers in the country. Maybe I will post the story tonight (without mentioning names!)

The 456 on the Engel site also looks nice, but perhaps I'll wait a few years for the prices to come down a little.

I just would like to have a first impression of the testa from Engel. To buy the car I need the assitance from my garage master who fix my 308 perfet. He will check the engine, gear box and everything. Its a person I realy trust in. I`m sure you know him...tell you tomorrow his name & firm.

Wolfgang,

I have also heard that Engel is a reputable dealer.
Didnt want to say that somethings wrong with them. Most probably they just mixed up the pictures. Simple mistake, nothing more.
If you can negotiate them down to 40000 Euro it would be a fair price for the car :-)

Beside this, Engel is a serious dealer with a strange reputation. I have never heard something bad from his garage.
Maybe a friend of him runs & updates his web-site who is not confirm with cars.

Wolfgang,

Looks nice but the pictures arent correct somehow:
The outlined car has a red coloured spoiler. If you click at "Weitere Bilder" and look at the third picture (front view) you can see that the car now has a plain black front spoiler (original colour).
Strange: They must have mixed up the pictures of several different TR, I guess.

Just another question:
Is ANDERNACH on your route for tomorrow?
I would like to make a short brake at Sportwagen-Engel. He is offering a great Testarossa for a resonable price. So I would like to have a closer look to the car. I`m realy interested in buying this testarossa...lets have a look?

Anyway, I can also drive later in the evening to him - I just thought about the route.

Guys,

I am 42 years young and back in the 70's I hurt myself in a few really serious accidents. Those were the wild, testosterone years...and I have no in intention of going through that kind of pain & suffering again! I have nothing to prove as my car looks like it's going 250 km/h standing still!

I agree with both Wolfgang and Amar when they talk about speed vs. "reckless driving", lane discipline and driving defensively. Quite frankly, motorcycling has been the best way to develop the latter skill. Speed is certainly not evil, and on those early mornings/late nights on the Autobahn, I love letting rip like the rest of you!

Amar, your trip to Rome and back reminds me of a ride my wife and I did last year: Calais - Menen - Liege - Koln - Frankfurt am Main - Heilbronn - Nurnberg - Rozvadov - Plzen - Prague. In one day!

OK, so the weather was not that great, but from Nurnberg through to Prague it was a quiet mid-week night. The new highway from the German border to Prague was absolutely deserted We had a great deal of fun!

Amar - with respect to the course you did with Ferrari, I looked at the two on offer on the Ferrari Owners site and would like to do the first one. Do pupils use their own cars or are they included in the course fee?

Cheers, MARK

Amen, Wolfgang. Interestingly, of the many Ferrari drivers I have come across around the world, so far only one was what I consider an irresponsible driver, and most others are good drivers who know the capabilities and limits of their cars, the conditions and themselves.

Happy driving...

Amar,

I total aggree with you. I also never have had an accident or problems with my licene.
Im 43 years (not one of those youg guns ) and I have a daughter 17 years old. Believe me
I take care of childrens, pedestrians, other drivers a.s.o.
On German highways is regular no speed limit.but if you drive from north to south
you will see hundreds of speed-limit-signs for no visibel reason.
I never speed on the highways in traffic rush even without speed-limit. Early Sunday morning for example is a good time..see Sunday.23 drive.09:00 o`clock.
And of course is the Nürburgring a great oportuinty to drive fast and check out the limit.
About the black-and-white philosophy TUBI???
If we would run this thread in German, I`m sure I would be able to describe better my passion
of speed and NOT stupid driving.

And Wolfgang, this subject only brings back delicious memories of my drive down to Rome with my girlfriend who thankfully enjoys a little bit of speed herself.

Or even more the drive back up to London which was even more unbelievable and on which I hardly ever went BELOW the speed limit on the open highways, a few times going more than double the limit when the highway was dry, relatively empty and straight... or sometimes not very straight!!!

Hi Wolfgang,

Don't worry, I didn't misunderstand you! Believe me I share your perspective and have myself owned radar detectors here in the UK and earlier in the US. In fact this very black-and-white philosophy that more and more countries and police have that all driving above a speed limit is dangerous or even evil, and that fast driving is by far the most heavily enforced "infringement" on the roads, is something I strongly disagree with. I have taken two advanced driving courses (one by Ferrari), have always followed the precepts of defensive driving and lane discipline and never had an accident. Yet breaking the speed limit in one of the best handling cars in the world, the 360 - a car I am quite good at handling, can land me in trouble or even a ban in the UK.

That is why the majority of my mileage is on the continent and that's why I am glad for every opportunity to do some fun driving in Europe such as our growing Nurburgring gathering in June!

Ciao,
Amar

Hello Gents,

I see its a problem to talk about. Sorry, once again I appologice me and I realy didn`t wanted to bring you in troubel or to tell you its cool to drive high-speed. I never speed in citys; I only have a smal problem to drive on a 3 way highway 120 km/h without any visibel reason/traffic for a limit. Thats my opinion.
By the way; whats up with all the TUBI`s installed in our cars?????
Are the Tubis legal? No and in Germany you loose your Betriebserlaubnis and Insurance!

Amar,

please don`t missunderstand me. I don`t want to bring anybody in troubel or to work illegal. Yes, its forbitten in Germany!!! Beside this point, I know so many people driving with V1 and never got problems. It`s legal to own it, its legal to carry it into the car - but its illegal to plug it in/use it with voltage!!!

Jens and Wolfgang,

I believe radar detectors are illegal in Germany and most of continental Europe unfortunately. A friend of mine in France had one confiscated even though it was in it's box and was obviously not being used at the time!

They are legal in the UK but we have the problem of not just fines but penalty points on our licence and getting banned for 6-24 months as a result. Not a pleasant thought having to give up the Ferrari-habit for that long...

Amar

Of course you are right reg. police. But just read the web-site and you will see nor problem...

Wolfgang,

Is that device really effective with german radar (fixed, mobile and laser)?
Where do you mount it?
As far as I know its forbidden to use one so its off when police discovers the device (=confiscation).
Would be annoying to buy such a thing only to be taken away by some unfriendly policemen.

Hi Amar & Mark,

I never had a problem to drive with the miles speedo. Behind the miles are also (on my speedo) the km/h in smal letters. But to be honest, WHO CARES ABOUT the speed? I`m serious watching the temprature and the oil pressure and not to forget the rpm`s! About the speed limit/Radar/Tickets:
I have a friend, his name is Valentine One...should I say more?

Wolfgang and Mark,

I was curious about the mph speedo because I have the same situation - my 360 is LHD (ordered via Garage Francorchamps, Belgium) but I had to order a new instrument cluster to have the mph speedo to drive the car here in the UK.

Sounds like fun guys...enjoy!

Wolfgang & Amar - my 328 is a left-hand drive Euro model, but it spent a couple of years in the US. In order to comply with US legislation, it had a Mile speedometer fitted in addition to the cat-conversion. A little frustrating as I grew up with Kilometres and am not familiar with MPH!

But I'll leave it the way the it is (part of the car's history) and use my GPS to figure out how fast I'm going

Hi Wolfgang,

If you all will come from Schwetzingen I recommend to meet at the fuel port "Grfenhausen" on the A5. This is the fuel port before the exit to "Lange" and directly behind the "Darmstdter Kreuz"

Be careful at Darmstdter Kreuz because of an fixed installed radar ;-)

Cu on Friday at "Raststtte Pfungstadt".

Wolfgang,

Meeting time will be: 1200-1215
Meeting place is: Independent fuel station at Potsdamer Platz in Bonn
This is really easy to find, its at the end of A555.
I assume you are coming from Frankfurt via A3. Then you leave the A3 at AK-Kr. Bonn/Siegburg and head for Bonn which is the A560. At Ab-Dr. St. Augustin you leave the A560 and head for Bonn entering the A59. Shortly you leave again at Ab.Dr. Bonn Beuel again heading for Bonn. You enter the A565 there.
You cross the rhine bridge and leave the Autobahn at exit "Bonn Zentrum". There you automatically come to the big roundabout with the independent fuel station (Yellow station). At the parking I will await you.
This all sounds pretty complicated but it is deadly easy in fact.
You just drive the A3 till Ab.-Kr. Bonn/Siegburg and then only go for the signs saying "Bonn"
From there on its about 10 minutes to arrive although you still have to change the Autobahns three times.

My email adress at the profile is valid.
If you want to call me before: 0228/696332

Hi folks,

YEAAAHHH - I will be with you on Sunday.
My lovely wife has confirmed my wishes and the only question she had was "Did you pay the insurance ;-)".

Furthermore I have asked my closely friend Thomas Neuert to come with us. He drives a F 348 GTS and would like to join our ride to Bonn and Nurburgring, too. On the other hand he has a ill daughter at home.

Wolfgang, we should discuss this on Friday. Thomas will be at the FCD Dinner, too.

Huuuuh, it's amazing and I'm totally excited because of our sunday ride.

I'm glad to meet you all in Bonn.

I am looking forward to meet all of you.

Wofgang,

Perhaps Ton wanted to bring a friend with him who drives a Porsche 911RS. Uwe is also interested in taking part with his 328GTS. So after all we already seem to have 4 Ferraris (308,2X328GTS, 348) and one Porsche 911RS togehter.
Thats all for the moment but perhaps there will be some more...
If not that would be nice nevertheless.

Ton,

I believe this year we will have a great, sunny summer! Thanks for the compliment to my car. Its still the first lacquer on my 1984 308QV. Have you seen the speedo-meter? Yes, we drive our car. Right now 54200 miles / 86700km without any problems!!! In my opinion its better to drive the car as to store it with 500km in 10 years. This cars are built to drive & have fun.

Ton & Jens,
whats up this sunday? Are there any plans? Time & meeting point?

Have a great sunny day

Have a pleasent flight CU soon.

Jens,
the Lotus drivers were very friendly but I believe they were a bit nervous seeing a Ferrari
who will beat their lap-time.

Amar,
yes the speedo is in miles. 145 miles at the photo shoot. Its an US version so left hand drive.

Hi Wolfgang,

The 308 really is a classically beautiful shape, and your first photo from overhead is an interesting view! Is your speedo in mph or kph? I thought it looked mph and was wondering why that would be in a left-hand drive car.

Got out with my 348tb as well despite of my work.
Sadly it was just around one hour cause of the lack of time :-(

P.S. What about these Lotus drivers? Didnt they even allow you to do some laps as guests? Strange people, they should have been happy that they could take a glimpse at some REALLY nice sports cars, I guess :-)

What a sunny & funny day. We started the engine at 09:00 a.m. without any goal.-PIC01-
First we took the highway to drive smoooothJ 200km south of Germany-PIC02-. At Freiburg we changed our mind and crossed the border to France.-PIC03-PIC04- Lets have a look whats going on at the race track in Anneau du Rhin. This is a smal privat race track close to Clomar inFrance. But no way to drive on the track it was rented the whole day by some Lotus Elise drivers.funny but no kick.
Well, I looked on my wind screen and saw a lot of dead moskitos from the highway on it.
So lets gather some moskitos on the SIDE windowsJ!!
Close to Colmar is the Grande Ballon 1.280m high. We have been there several times `cause its an amzing smal road going up the hills. And guys NO traffic!!! I can not describe
my feelings when I drove up to the top.2 hours with a bright smiling all over my face!
When we arrived on the top, we just dropped into a snow-ski-paradies. A few 100 people with skis and snow-boards looked at us like we came from an other planet with our Ferrari. What an amazing surrounding!-PIC05-PIC06- Later in the afternoon we drove over Strassbourg thru the Elsass back home. I will never forgett this 600km Sunday tripI`m missed you guys!!!
