It's a very fast car but I'm not sure how it would fair against an Enzo. Certainly I think its geared for a lower top speed & more acceleration. I like it very much but not sure I'd want one.

That was the Ultima, a British built car with a 6.3 litre engine, it gave the Porsche a massive head start, the Porsche was doing 140 and the Ultima went past it like it was standing still, unbelievable, he went through the speed trap at 185mph

Craig,

aaah, now its understandable for me - not enough space to the run car to the max. speed. So next time you have to look for an other track with maybe 1 mile more distance?
You got some pice from this event?

I wasn't in the 328, I was in my 348GTS, when I did 169 I think it was about 7900 rpm in 5th gear.

There wasn't enough space to go any quicker, we had to brake after the speed trap.

ps: "F328 with 154mph / 246 km/h is not usual" - do you mean it should go quicker than this ?

Craig,

thanks a lot but I`m still wondering about the less max. speed. So please let me ask you again:
What was your rpm`s in last gear?

Hi Wolfgang,

It was a 2 mile straight runway, we entered it at around 60-80mph from a 180 degree right hander, the speed traps were about 1.75miles down the runway.

To be honest these are pretty high speeds in actual terms ie not speedo readings. When I went through at 169 my speedo was showing around 177 as I recall. We were certainly going as hard as we could.

By the way, I forgot to mention that the 328GTS managed 154mph.

PS. Forgot to mention that the owner of the runway has done 200mph there in his Jaguar XJ220

Hi Craig,

thanks for speed-tables.
I`m a bit dissapointed about the max. speed.
What happened? Wasn`t this a straight road? It sounds like a hill-climing-contest;-)
512TR 179mph / 286 km/h
Diablo 185mph / 296 km/h
Can you please delight me?

Hi Amar, great day out. Shame you couldnt make it.

I managed to get to 169(then span off at about 100 - awaiting report on any possible damage), The 360 Spider did 175 and Ross's 512TR 179.

The fastest speed of the day was the 996 Turbo with factory upgrade (X pack) which managed 190 mph, the mad Audi RS4's were regularly getting to 180ish with 4 people in them!

The Diablo VT did 185 I think. A TVR Tuscan got to 175, An Ultima got to 185.

All in all lots of big speeds, a few engines blown up, oops, no serious spins (apart from the Diable who did 180 on his first run in torrential rain, couldnt stop at the end and span about 6 times along the grass!)

Craig,

Sorry I missed the Sunday fun (was away on vacation anyway)... how was it?! I'd love to know the results, and especially any numbers on a 360 Modena.

Thanks,
Amar

Hi all,

I've already spoken to a few of you but getting lots of emails so thought I'd post here.

Don't know if anyone interested but a few of us at work along with some folks from another site are hiring a 2 mile straight runway in the uk ON april 27th.

We will mainly be doing maximum speed runs which will be electronically recorded but there are also some bends getting to and from the straight so other fun to be had.

This is a private booking, safety is paramount so we will be running 2 cars next to each other only at a time. the runway is smooth and very very wide (could actually run four cars if we wanted)

You can read the report on our previous outing here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/porsche/default.asp?storyId=6264

We have lots of exotic cars coming, Porsches, TVR's, other F Cars and V fast Audi's, a Diablo & possibly a Viper and Cobra.

I have a few spaces free so let me know. Cost approx 155 ukp per car for around 5-8 runs.

Cheers,

Craig.
