I recently purchased a slick gear shift gate and polished knob for my 328 GTS(from Paul) the parts arrived on time and were fitted immediately the gear shift gate is all it is claimed to be and allows novices like me to shift with less chance of missing. The gesr knob is also of excellent quality. If any of you are thinking of dealing with Paul i certainly recommend him.
best regards

Mark,

As I said in the other thread - I could make them for 20 a go! - But I wanted to stay away from something that did not look like part of the car, or look like it was not made for the car.

Anyone who has bought any thing from me will know exactly what I mean.

The ones that I have seen are not what I would call a looks item no disrespect intended - just my opinion :-)

Paul,

be carefull with copyright issues....

Ferrari is a MAJOR pain in the behind on that. I had little cavallino's in the corners of the pictures I carry on my websites and was summoned to take them off...

Jens,

You are right - copyright is a problem! Im not sure about if a self-adhesive emblem was placed on the front? - Or even supplied with it so that the user could place it on the front rather than me!

As for the meeting in June - I would have loved to come, but due to work commitments I am unable to attend (Who said being the MD was an easy life!) :-(

Paul,

The original locks got cavalinos on the cover and are delivered in a Ferrari back. Could you deliver these as well? I fear you cant due to copyright issues! Just keep us updated! Wouldnt want to buy from someone else but a FChat sponsor although I fear you dont want join us at our FChat meeting in june...

Mark,

The locks come out at 10 each on a quantity purchase. As to what to use on the material side, the cheapest option would be Aluminium. It could be anodised as well. One other idea could be to make it form steel and have it satin chrome plated like the gate.

All in all I think that the 40-50 mark is still feasible.

I will post a new subject on the main discussion page to see what sort of interest there is.

Sounds good to me Paul.

I remember those pin tumbler locks! I had one on my Alfa Romeo Spider's alarm system back in the 80's, and my car was never stolen!

What metal would you be machining the body of the lock from and what kind of finish would it have?

Mark,

I was also concerned with the quality of the lock.

Unfortunately the better the quality of lock used would reflect in the price. I would have thought that a pick resistant pin tumbler lock would have been more appropriate. 10,000 key combinations, drill resistant etc.. - See pic

I will look into cost of the locks first, but I can not see there being a problem with a "group buy" to get the cost down.

Hi Paul,

I would be interested in the shift gate lock. The price you quote is similar to the e-Bay item mentioned below, but I would prefer to know who made the lock and what I'm getting! 100 sight unseen is a little risky.

What about fitting better quality locks than the model mentione by Jens? That would probably make it more worth our money. If we get more interested owners, would the price improve?

Cheers, MARK

I have thought about making a shift gate lock for some time now. I would have thought that they could be made for about 40-50?? Feedback anyone?

As for the slick shift gate - The original Ferrari 348 one costs over 300, not that that has anything to do with the way the Slick Shift is priced! - There is a lot more that goes into these than meets the eye! :-)

Mark,

I had exactly the same idea but stayed away from it when I heard the price. Jens is right that it is just a theft delay and not a very good protection.

Hi Ton & Jens,

I saw the shift gate lock for sale on a regular website somewhere (i.e. not on an auction) just before I bought my car and thought that I should get one. I will have to look through my links to see if I can find the site again. Maybe we can get an F-chat reduction.

Mark and Ton,

Have thought about that shiftgate as well. Sounds like a good device. Pretty expensive though. Would ask for a FChat special price! :-)
These shift locks are sometimes auctioned at ebay but even there they mostly go for more than 100 . Will keep on looking for them although a professional thief will have that cracked in 10 seconds. Mostly very simple locks there (same as for a mailbox or similar :-()

Matk,

I agree! I have been looking for a shift gate lock, but those devices are also massively overpriced!
