Amar,

With confirming me via mail that you come a room was already reserved by me for you (and the others who confirmed).
If you cant come you just tell me so till three days before the meeting (16.6.2003) and I will cancel the room without any costs for you!
Hope you all agree with this! Also I hope that no more cancellations need to be done by me anymore. :-)

Bart,

Sorry to hear you can't make it, I was looking forward to meeting and sharing experiences of the 360. Another time hopefully...

Jens,

Good news about more time Friday on the track. By the way is the hotel holding a block of rooms for us or do reservations need to be confirmed before they're gone?

Ciao,

P.S. Where have you been on sunday at Spa? We saw your car at the paddock but couldnt reach you via mobile! Quite sad since we could do free laps on both days! Well, anyway: Next time for sure!

Ton,
the boys are 5 and 6.
The back Seats are perfect for children at this age. They always have a lot of fun when driving.
The Mondial could be a little faster, most fun is to drive around corners, like Kart driving !!

Today is perfect weather, we will drive a little

Ton,

Well, we did about five or six laps and the track was improving from one to the other. It seems to dry off quite qickly but it was strange to have light rain at one part of the track while at other parts it was totally dry.
Can only happen on long tracks in hillside areas like the Eifel or the Ardennes.
Nevertheless quite interesting to compare the lines and speeds of yourself with another driver.

Hi Jens,

Good to hear that nothing happened on the wet track. I know that the 911RS that you are talking about has almost slicks. How many laps did you do?

Ton

PS very good news about friday!

Hello everybody,

We have a very lucky change in timetables at the Nürburgring for friday, the 20th of june, 2003:

The lap times for that day have been changed: While it was planned to open the track on that day only from 17.15 to 19.30 it will now be open from 8.00 to 19.30 which means the whole day!!!

Not bad because we gain nearly one more track day through this change. Now lets finally hope for good weather. Drove as passenger in a Porsche 911 RS last wednesday when it was very wet. Quite nasty...(and our nice red toys would get wet :-))

Anyway I dont know any Berlin members but perhaps you just try to do a search with the Members List option and the searchword "Berlin".
I think I can remeber someone from Berlin but I am pretty sure that he was never very active at FChat (=Karteileiche :-))

>>>Seems to me you live in Germany...

Nope, I live in the west of The Netherlands but do have visited the odd race and karting track here and there... ;-)

I actually ran into the now late Elisabeth Schumacher in Kerpen once. I still have a stack of the posters that were produced from her personal photo's (but must admit that I am totally NO fan of MS, also see one of my other posts for that)

>>>Are you dutch? Your name sounds so english / american...

Totally Dutch with some German ancestors but the name does have a nice "anglo" ring to it doesn't it?

Jens,

I get your point. However, look at it in a different way:

- Maybe driving the 360 and 575 will make you want them even more and you'll work even harder!

- What you learn in the Pilota about handling and controlling a car, including managing skids etc, as well as driving on a track, help you enjoy any Ferrari model more.

A presto,

For newbies to the Nordschleife I would recommend reading www.nurburgring.org.uk .

They have a great "first time" section.

(Was probably already posted before but wanted to mention it anyway).

Amar,

I guess there are several problems:

If I drive a 360 or a 575M I am pretty sure that I will notice how poorly my good old 348 handles.
This will result in the urgent wish to own and buy one of those immediately.
Together with the costs for the course the weekend could really become very expensive if you see it this way :-)
Seriously: I would rather consider a course where I can only drive my own car to really get to know it to perfection.
Experiences at the Nordschleife showed me that I dont really know how my car behaves when I step over the limit with it. This annoys me a lot since I urgently want to learn how to control it under extreme conditions (like Spa in the rain :-))

Con saluti cordialissimi,
Jens Haller

P.S. On the other hand I will attend the Pilota Ferrari courses one day for sure! Perhaps we can attend one of them together in the future :-)

But Jens, what exactly is the problem with driving a different model at Pilota, particularly if it is a current one? Surely that would make it even more fun! You will get familiar with a newer model surprisingly quickly and the 360 and 575 happen to be pretty user-friendly cars by Ferrari standards.

The costs, on the other hand, are a bit of a bummer - you are right. But consider it one of the best types of training you can receive on driving a Ferrari from some fantastic drivers. Hope you will do it one day...

>>>Uhhhhhhh, well some paint here and there and it looks brand new again, I guess.

Yeah... as Don always says "That will buff right out!".

Playing with the idea of putting 400 / 412 drive trains in (see "Technical Q&A" section).

Amar,

We're diehard Nurburgring Nordschleife fans (I couldn't care less about the new GP track...) although we never ran an offical race there. I vaguely remember losing a front wheel in "Adenauer Forst" though....

The track is highly challenging and SUBERBLY addictive!

Amar,

The pilota courses really sound good but I am not driving one of the modells featured at the courses and the prices are also quite tempting.
Nevertheless it is just fantastic to drive your Ferrari at a track. Everytime I can really feel that the car was built exactly for that purpose and not for posing around with it somewhere downtown only to impress people.

Another thing I love about track events and driving there is the adrenaline rush. I compared that with some other drivers and your hands are really shacking after some laps at Spa or the Nordschleife. Its just pure fun and adrenaline I have seldom discovered before :-)
Looking forward to the next adrenaline rush with you all :-)

Jens,

Of course you're right - one can laugh about it afterwards if things are mostly okay but it's not such a laugh when you're in the middle of "a moment"!

Actually this reminds me again of one of the real benefits of the Pilota courses - you get to drive factory-provided cars around Mugello which is another outstanding track, and to test the car's and your limits a bit more than usually... uh oh I'm getting the pangs for another Pilota soon!!!

Amar,

yes, we know the area pretty well, including the track itself. At one stage we had an unlimited "Year-round access card" to the Nordschleife.

We have also set up some timing points to be able to compare lap times as you can't do sequential laps but have to go off the track at the end of a lap, go through a gate and get back on the track (= related to the fact that you have to pay per lap).

Jens,

I have to see if we can make it all the days of the meeting (mainly because of the preceeding Le Mans weekend) and since my Fcar is nowhere near finished (see below) we would probably be traveling in a "slightly" modified 1972 Gulf Racing Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000 GTA (!) which will of course demonstrate the usefulness of our chip tuning... ;-)

Amar,

Actually I guess Ton was quite lucky! Some laps later a Testarossa spun at Pouhon. He did not hit anything but got dig in the sand and never got out by himself. They broke off the session and had to tow the heavy car out with a truck.
Next day he was there again and had lots of sand in the engine bay and some stone chips at the side.
Still the owner could already laugh about it again :-)

Jens and Ton,

I would feel privileged if I spun my car on the Spa track, if I could be sure it won't hit anything - it means Ton was having fun and testing the limits! Spa is an amazing track and I'd love to drive it again soon, who knows maybe if it's possible on my way to or from Nurburgring...

For those of you who have never been to the Nurburgring, I'm volunteering to lead the pack on nice Eifel mountain (hills actually) roads to the track.

It won't be the quickest way to the track but it'll be a LOT of fun and since we will have a lot less horses under the hood than you guys, we'll do our best to outrun you purely on driver skill... ;-)

BUT... don't be mad if we don't outrun ya as by that time we will just have returned from Le Mans...

Nice to see you back from vacation! You missed lots of rain in Spa but also fun driving on a very wet track (Ton did two 360 degree spins in a row at Les Combes on his first lap without leaving the track :-)).
Most people seem to come with someone else in june. Just dont know yet whether these are girl-friends/wifes but suppose so.
Nevertheless I will work out different locations who can be visited and what can be done (museums, shopping etc.) if the women dont want to come to the track.

I called Roel a few hours ago (just got back from work) and we agreed to join the meeting for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. And we'll be staying at the same hotel, just a cheaper room (110 a night for 2). I think it's still high but you only live once. (unlike mr. Bond :-))

Enjoy it while you're young :-)

Jens, I've send you an email with some more information. Hope you can work it out.

btw. Don't listen to Roel about my karting skills, they s*ck when I'm not driving my home track :-)

Jens: Add me to the list! Although Bart and I will have to figur out still which days to visit, we'll definately be part of this somehow. I hope we can make it to the kart track too. (Bart is infamous for his karting skills, so i'd love to see how that works out)

Can't wait to meet some more people from the board, especially the european crew. It's great to meet the person behind a screenname. And the sight of all those Ferrari's toegther will definately be priceless. There's some cars in that list I can't wait to see/hear in person. (Bart's Tubi included)

Again Jens, praise you for organizing this event and putting some (more then some) time and effort in it.

Jens, once again, thanks a lot for arranging the complete meeting.
I don't think it's possible for me to stay at a 120 hotel room, so I hope I can arrange something nearby for a bit less money.
It sucks being a student :-(

I'll probably come with Roel, so we'll find something. If not, we'll sleep in the car :-)

I'm still for the karting, would love to battle F-owners on the track :-) especially on MS's track.

Hopefully some more non-owners/owners will join the trip. It will be the best meeting ever made :-)
And let's hope Rob will sell and sent some window banners, to give it a real Fchat.com finish.

I'm really looking forward to the meeting.

then it might be best that we meet on sunday
and i will also be driving back home every day, it's only 180 km, so that's not that bad.
i will be there also on friday, but on saterday i will have to leave early to go to a wedding.
and then i can't get to drunk because i have to find my way back to Spa on sunday

Bart,

Whoops, sorry for the misunderstanding there!!
I allready found it strange that you wouldn't go to the whole F-chat meeting!

For the Ferrari days at Spa, i don't think i will be overnighting, because saturday i'll come alone or with a friend and sunday my sister will come along! She's also a Ferrari-fan (alltough not as big as me!)!
But this is all provisional, things can always change!

If you're leaving at 9 am, maybe we can drive together! That is if i'm awake yet, because at friday i have to go to a party!

Dirk,

If the nurburgring is 300 kms from Antwerp i guess we'll have to leave a bit sooner than 9 am!
But we'll discuss that later at Spa!

Right now i'm going for a spin in the S! :-) :-) 9000 RPM all the way!!
(and try to get over my hangover from last night!!)

Guy,

For the ring meeting i'll be there all the time, it's for the Ferrari days at Spa that i'll leave Saturday. I've found a hotel in Verviers, Amigo Hotel.
9000 RPM and V-TEC is something unique :-)

I drove last september for the first time to the Nurnburgring and it's 300 km if you go from Antwerp, so it's about 2.5 - 3 hours drive, if you kinda behave yourself

Dirk,

A good idea for meeting each other at the Ferrari days! We will probably all be there!

I for myself will definetly be there on sunday and if the weather is fine also saturday!

Bart, did you found a hotel allready for the Ferrari-days? Spa and surrounding was fully booked you said!
So, you're also leaving saturday for the F-chat meeting. Leaving at 9am is good i think, i don't remember how long the drive up there is (only been once at the ring and it's a few years ago, ferrari racing days!)

You guys all have a nice weekend!
And remember: Life begins at 9000 RPM :-) :-) right Bart?

Very good idea; if you guys are planning to jump in on saterday I join the club!!! Why don't we meet eachother first somewhere in a nice bar to arrange some of the details of driving together?
Don't forget that there is a farewell party as well so maybe it's better to book a room in the area...
Look forward to meet all of you!!

Hi Joren and Dirk,

I'm also a big Ferrari-freak without an F-car (yet!)

But i will also go to the meeting, unfortunately it will only be for saturday (always very busy at work that time of year :-()

Which day(s) are you guys planning to go?

If you're also going saturday only, maybe we can meet somewhere in Belgium, like Joren said?

It would be nice to meet some other Tifosi which are in the same position as me: don't drive an F-car yet but will be ... one day!!

Just give me a sign
